Small Schools Swimming Sports This week, Year 5 and 6 students participated in the Small School's Swimming Sports. Our students participated with great enthusiasm and energy, supporting and encouraging each

other and celebrating each individual’s successes. We were so proud of all of you. Thanks to the many parents who helped out during this event



NO ERRORS IN THIS COMEDY… This week I had the pleasure of spending time with some students from Pohutukawa class and I asked them to help me write this week’s message. They chose to share some perspectives with you about their recent trip to the pop-up Globe to see A Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare. “The wherewithal in going to these plays is because they canst be great entertainment.” “Old entertainment is really interesting because it is not what thou watches or listens to every day.” “This play was a comedy and it was so hard not to laugh. Some of the things they hath said and done were hilarious. “This play hath more comedy than any other characteristic features of Shakespeare’s plays.“ “Having a combination of modern and Elizabethan language helped us understand what was going on and made it interesting.” The students wanted to test you with a Shakespearian quiz – good luck.

HEALTH AND SAFETY SPOTLIGHT OF THE MONTH There are definitely times throughout the year where children are more prone to falling ill. It is important that should your child contract an infectious disease, such as strep throat, etc, please keep them at home and consult a doctor. Once your child has cleared the

incubation period and begun a course of antibiotics, they may return to school. If a child suffers a bout of vomiting or diarrhoea, we expect that they will be kept at home for a minimum of 24 hours and then only return once their tummies have totally settled. Taking these measures helps reduce the risk of spreading an infection. Scholastic Book Club – Issue 2 This issue opens on Monday 19 March 2018. Please either return your book order to the school by Friday 23 March (so hopefully order can be delivered before end of term, fingers crossed!) Otherwise place your order through the LOOP system. MATAHUI SCHOOL BALL 2018 Did you know that every 2nd year Matahui School hosts a fabulous ball? Not only is it a significant fundraising event but it's a fabulous night out! This is an incredible opportunity to get involved with the school and we are on the hunt for some parents/caregivers to volunteer some of their precious time (whatever you can spare) and be a part of the School Ball committee. We have lots of information on previous years' events documented and we are very keen to make this years’ ball the best yet! WINTER BASKETBALL INFORMATION – YEARS 3 &4, YEARS 5 & 6 AND YEARS 7 & 8 The basketball winter season is fast approaching. If there are any parents keen to coach either the Year 5/6 or Year 7/8 teams, please let the school office know as soon as possible please.

If your child would like to take part in the winter basketball league, please let the school office know within the next two weeks please.

Detailed below is some general information regarding the different year groups.

Year 3 & 4 Winter League play at ASB Stadium on a Tuesday afternoon. Games are scheduled between 3.50pm and 6.30pm. The game is played on a full sized court and is divided into two halves. TCBA provide two referees which are included in the school fees.Winter League will commence Tuesday 8 May 2018. Coach for Years 3 and 4 – Mike Ellis

Year 5 & 6 Winter League will be played over two venues this year, ASB Stadium and QEYC. Games are played between 4.00pm and 8.30pm on a Friday night. At this level the game is played on full size hoops. Teams play four x ten minute running clock quarters with normal basketball rules including subbing on of players. Winter League will commence Friday 11 May 2018.

Years 7 & 8 This League is currently played at the ASB Stadium on a Monday night. Games are scheduled between 4.00pm and 8.00pm.The games are played on a full sized court, with normal basketball rules and are played over four x 10 minute running clock quarters. Mouth guards in this league will be compulsory in 2018 in line with BBNZ policies. This League will recommence in Term 2 2018, on Monday 7 May 2018.



NETBALL Moana United Netball have sent through information regarding netball. Although Matahui School does not run this programme, if any parent is interested in volunteering to organize this, please come to the school office, to pick up all the relevant forms and information. The year 3 – 4 program will run on a Thursday starting the 4th May from 3.30 – 5pm. This is being run at the Katikati College Netball Courts. If we had a parent to run the Year 1 and 2 programme here at school there is training provided and a manual that details the full program week by week. Again, come to the school office for further information. SOLAR COMPETITION

WORKING BEE – MATAHUI SCHOOL We are co-ordinating a working bee for Saturday 17 March, from 8.30 am to 11 am. We will be spreading protective bark chippings around the play equipment and the climbing tree area. Any help would be greatly appreciated ... and we will share a morning tea.

Missing in Action! Phoenix (Year 1) has lost a size 7 jacket. It is nearly new , with a

zip front and no hood. It has a green felt mark on ticket label at back This is his only jacket. If anyone finds it could they please hand in to the school office. Many thanks



MATAHUI TOP SCHOOLS Last night a group of 12 Year 5 and 6 students participated in the Top School's event at Gate Pa School. We cooperated, persevered, problem solved and celebrated our successes. We were all so proud of how you competed. One by stander commented on how they wanted to be part of our school because all Matahui children were smiling. Thanks again to all our wonderful supporters who helped during this event.
