TRANSCRIPT
Welcome back to school for a very exciting and action packed term three. I
hope everyone had a restful break and had lots of quality time with family and
friends. On a personal note, I would like to thank FIFA for organising the World
Cup during school holidays this year, but am looking forward to getting back to
normal sleep patterns.
Here at MJPS, some of the activities planned for this term include;
Dance 2B Fit teaching all classes our dances for next terms school concert
Showcase Concert for our dance and choir (August 19)
Book Week (August 18-22)
K-2 Sports Carnival (September 2)
Stage 3 Canberra / Snow trip (September 8-10)
I’m sure more activities will be added as we go along, but it is already shaping
up to be a very busy and creative term. Please keep a look out for notes from
your class teacher or in the newsletter about all these events.
Staff Development Day
On Monday, Maroubra Junction PS hosted La Perouse and Mascot Public
Schools to discuss current trends in Literacy with regards to new curriculum and
assessment practices. A great session, lead by Mr Elleston from La Perouse.
Staff were also shown great teaching strategies and practices using iPads in
Education. A really exciting and worthwhile workshop, lead by Miss Lauren Yook,
Miss Ho and Miss Keryn Yook.
To finish the day staff discussed the concept of creativity in our classrooms and
how we as teachers can encourage this concept, both in ourselves and in our
students.
Three very worthwhile sessions, very positively received by all staff.
Uniform Shop Move
I know the P&C have more details in their report, but just a short thanks to
Deanne, Kellie and Kiran for all the work done in the holidays in moving the
Uniform Shop to outside the Year 4 classrooms during the holidays. A great
move to a place that is hopefully easier for parents to get to when updating
school uniforms.

NAIDOC day at La Perouse
On Wednesday 25th
June Year 6 were invited to La Perouse
Public School to share in their NAIDOC celebrations. In the
morning, we took part in a traditional Aboriginal smoking
ceremony. There was a moving assembly with inspirational
talks by Aboriginal elders from the community about the
history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. At
recess, we ate a delicious buffet meal followed by scrump-
tious sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce. YUM! Then
we played touch footy and played on the playground
equipment with our new La Perouse friends. After recess, we
separated into 5 groups and experienced fun, multicultural
activities which included two special talks about Aboriginal
tools and weapons as well as the disciplines that provide
balance: respect, patience, observation, responsibilities. We
decorated clay boomerangs, created jewellery made from
beads and shells, played a mix of netball and soccer and
finally made Johnny cakes (fried damper). All the year sixes
loved their NAIDOC excursion and we look forward to
sharing further activities with our new friends at La Perouse
Public School.

Dance 2B Fit This term, all classes will be taught a dance for the Term 4
Concert. Instructors from Dance 2B Fit will work alongside
our teachers in teaching students these movements in
preparation.
Each class will receive 40 minutes of tuition each week and it
is expected that all students will participate in these lessons.
Any parent not wishing this dance instruction to take place
please talk to the class teacher.
Term 3 Assemblies With Dance 2B Fit in the Hall on Thursdays, it has been
decided to have smaller assemblies on Friday mornings
during Term 3. These assemblies will be run by Year 6
student leaders and focus on acknowledging student
achievement and giving out whole school messages from
staff. It is expected that these assemblies start at 9.00am and
finish by 9.30am. Parents are welcome to attend these
smaller assemblies this term. Class run assemblies will return
in term four. Our next assembly will be K-2 next Friday
morning.
Guitar Lessons Guitar lessons have resumed in the Library at 8.15am on
Tuesday mornings.
Playground Message of Week (Week 1)
This week students will be shown the playground PPT to
refresh their memories of the playground areas,
appropriate play and out of bounds areas.

Welcome Back
Welcome to Term 3! We hope everyone had a wonderful
relaxing break and you are ready to get back into the
swing of the school routine.
Save the date
This year, instead of a Father's Day stall, we will be cele-
brating our wonderful Dads with a BBQ breakfast on Fri-
day morning, 5 September 2014. Dads - we hope giving
lots of notice of the event will ensure many of you are
able to attend. Further information and RSVP notes will
be included in newsletters closer to September.
Uniform Shop
EFTPOS facilities
We are happy to announce that the Uniform Shop is en-
tering the 21st Century and will have an EFTPOS machine
in Term 3!
With that convenience to parents comes some inevitable
charges:
you will pay a $2 fee per order.
der.
done by cash only, but the original charges will not be
refunded.
Please remember we are all volunteers working in the
shop so we want to ensure the transition is easy and
manageable. We also need to make sure that costs com-
ing from our bank are covered. Thanks for your under-
standing in this regard.
You can always still pay by cash and cheque - these op-
tions are not going away!
An updated order form has been drawn up to incorpo-
rate the new payment option. A copy of the new form
can be seen by clicking here.
A new location
The Uniform Shop is now in a new location. We are now
located near the Gate 3 Entrance, opposite the Year 4
classes. The move to a new area gives us more space, with
the ability to be better organised, house more stock, and
possibly add a change area. We would like to thank Mr
Ackerman, the office staff (especially Kathy) & Marcus for
all their help in getting the area ready for the move.
The open times of the Shop will not change. Days & times
that we are open are: Tuesdays 2:15pm - 2:45pm and Fri-
days 8:45am - 9:15am.
P&C Executive - last Term in office
All P&C Exec positions will be vacated at the AGM to be
held early in Term 4.
If you would like to nominate for a position or vote some-
one in, you will need to be a financial member of the P&C
for at least one meeting. This means you will need to pay
your $2 membership fee prior to the 4 September P&C
meeting and also attend the AGM. You can pay your fee via
the office, by filling out this form (click here) and enclosing
in an envelope marked "P&C - membership fee" with $2.
“Why would I want to be the P&C Secretary?”
That’s what I asked myself. Here’s why:
I have been able to get involved with events at School my
children directly benefit from – and that feels good.I have
utilized skills I always had but didn’t necessarily use while
being a stay-at-home mum: organizing, computer skills,
brainstorming, collaborating, event co-ordination….I even
learned some new stuff. Wait a minute, this is all going to
look great on my resume. Awesome.
I’ll tell you what being on the P&C Executive IS: An oppor-
tunity to meet many other parents at the School and to-
gether do some great things for our kids. An opportunity to
better understand how the School operates and appreciate
what that entails. Lots of fun – a bit of hard work (what isn’t
when you’re a busy parent?), but an opportunity to be part
of something not too serious, but seriously rewarding.
Here’s what it is NOT: Boring. J
