Did you know:

• GPS is controlled and owned by the American government and can be ‘switched off’ at any time One of the many interesting facts about the USA, which shows their power and influence over the world. GPS is being used worldwide, but I think few people are aware that it’s controlled and owned by the American government. They also have the possibility to shut it down at any time.

• The current flag of the USA was designed by a 17-year-old His name was Robert G. Heft and he did it as a school project. He originally received a B– for the project, but he was later awarded an A after the flag was accepted by the Congress. • We have one of the best Passports in the world, Americans can travel the world quite freely and they can pride themselves with the fact that they have one of the world’s best passports. The U.S. citizens can travel to 116 countries without a visa re-quirement, and get a visa on arrival in additional 44 countries.

• 27% of the Americans believe that the moon landing was fake

• Christmas was illegal in the USA until 1836 as it was considered an ancient pagan holiday

• There’s an official Rock Paper Scissors league

• An average American eats 35 tons of food in a lifetime

• 60% of Americans order takeout or delivery food at least once a week Hope to see everyone at our next meeting Jan, 14th 2020!

THIS DAY IN MILITARY HISTORY December 16, 1944 The last major German offensive campaign on the Western

Front has become known as the "Battle of the Bulge" for the thrust into the Allied lines. For the Americans, this was to be the largest and bloodiest single engagement of the Second World War, and also the third dead-liest campaign in American history. It began 75 years ago on Dec. 16, 1944, and while it caught the Allied forces off guard, in the end, the German Army failed to meet its objectives and the battle essentially exhaust-ed the Germans of their resources. https://fxn.ws/35ir7Na?fbclid=IwAR2uUteob8cYX18skJdlATdQqYT1mfeqa66SsEQAr8txSIBPIU_fjTo0-so November 28th, 1775 Congress adopted "Rules for the Regulation of the Navy of the United Colonies of North-America," on the recommendation of the Naval Committee. The Rules were largely created by John

Adams. Adams had no naval or military experience himself, but he was an eminent lawyer and may have had some experience with maritime law since he practiced in the prominent port city of Boston. Adams' Rules contain 41 articles altogether. They deal with such things as food rations, how to deal with crimes and dereliction of duty on board ship, the proper conduct of officers, the proper care of injured seamen, how to deal with captured ships and how to deal with mutiny and sedition. The Rules also contained strict guidelines about personal behavior, for-bidding "dissolute, immoral and disorderly practices," requiring regular church services on board ship and punishment for swearing, cursing, blaspheming God and drunkenness.

Our first annual Christmas Party with Post 110 and the Blue Star Mothers was a huge success with a

silent auction and door prizes and the beginning of a tradition that we will do every year. Thank you Mayor Craig Thurmond and the members of the Broken Arrow City Council, Johnny Parks, Debra Wimpee, Christi Gillespie, City Manager Michael Spurgeon, Senator John Haste for attending and supporting it. Thank you best of all to Miss Maggie Bond singing our National Anthem followed later with guitar accompaniment by Military History Center docent and Vietnam Veteran Dennis Hoch for the beautiful Christmas carols. TODAY’S MILITARY The Bravest Thing Col. Randy Hoffman Ever Did Was to Stop Fighting . Marine commando Randy

Hoffman’s plane took off from Kabul, climbed over the jagged mountains and turned toward home. Some-where down there was his tent, a piece of canvas stretched across a pit he had carved into a high-altitude ridge. Randy had spent most of the previous 2½ years in the mountains along the Pakistan border, turning Afghan villagers into soldiers. He pictured the villagers lost in combat, men he had come to admire for their courage and strict sense of right and wrong. He thought about those left legless by militant bombings and now facing a life ahead in mud-brick compounds perched on mountainsides. He turned away from the oth-ers on the plane and cried. https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-bravest-thing-col-randy-hoffman-ever-did-was-to-stop-fighting-11576244128?fbclid=IwAR1t-RypNq2R4J-46PnsZs5Lsq0UH_YjlxPiw_0stG-680lfymboD6Bgrls

MILITARY HUMOR Well….I Just had another “friend” delete and block me on facebook. He was a guy from France and we

were talking about sports history. He asked me “Who won the first Tour de France?” Appar-ently the 5th Panzer Division was not the correct answer.
