Got myself another stock bird........

Coming straight down the freeway Bob Huff saw the Blue bar hen going at full tilt until she realised

that she had overshot the runway and had to do a dramatic u‐turn and this followed by "You little

beauty" and then she disappeared. Triumph and tragedy was experienced in a matter of seconds.

Bob was all smiles again when she reappeared and sat on the loft roof very fizzy, she had to be

carefully coaxed into the loft.

Bob's been flying at his loft from Stirling for decades and this is the first time he has seen them

coming down the freeway , whereas the birds are usually returning from way down south or way up

north. Two generations of pigeon flyers have been many times second Association but this was the

first time they actually cracked the big one.

The Goodger Metcalf Dangerfield ( Now there is some names) Blue bar was out on her own doing it

the way it should be done with an almost eight minute lead over the Southern Gentlemen Gavin &

Luke Harris who landed five birds in quick succession.

What turned into an interesting race with many of the birds getting home around the two fifteen

mark and onwards, a steady stream of returns were recorded up to nightfall.

Due to the very poor, no that should read terrible weather the birds training has been severely

interrupted with the birds not being liberated from the loft for weeks. Two and half weeks before

the race this little hen was windy , foggy, hailing, raining Bob let the birds out for much needed

exercise unfortunately the birds were scattered . The birds returned all day and, just on dusk the loft

was checked and again after dark. Black, hailing, blowing a gale she was sitting on her square waiting

for a feed. Bob knew then there was something special about this hen.

This hen finished her race in exceptionally good condition.

She will have a special place in the stock loft.

Where to release.....

The Release panel where in dilemma mode where to release the birds for the Moulamein 5 bird

special. Trying to avoid clashes with the Victorian clubs in the first instance it was proposed the birds

be released at Balranald, then due to the very small entry for the race was finally shifted to Ouyen.

What a brilliant move that proved to be with an excellent race being conducted and many members

left disappointed they did not enter. A contingent of the cream of the South Australian lofts

competed in the race with only the very best participating.

The entry fee ensured only the very special birds took part in this race.

David Walker after a lot of hard work topped the winners list with a beautiful Blue checker hen

sitting eggs for seven days. David has redesigned the ventilation of the loft and taken a very

professional approach to the health of the birds striving for that elusive super health, most of us only

read of.

Again as in other races it was a case of being extremely thankful for electronic timing as David and

his friend only saw the second two birds come wheeling in from out of the sky. Circling, calling and

gentle encouragement to land and clock in, the winner was all the time happily sitting on her eggs,

just wondering what all the fuss was about.

The two year old hen is from David's own family of old South Australian bloodlines with a smattering

of D Wettering's from Victoria. The other contributor being a Hereman.

Ten years of hard work and trying new things; this year's focus has been on getting the birds super

healthy, the birds have always been healthy, but nothing like they are now with that elusive super

health being achieved. A focus on natural assistance and improving the loft environment has gone a

long way to improving the performance of the loft mates.

The blue checker hen went one better than her sister who in 2015 bought home 2nd Assoc. from

Deniliquin.

To top off the race the Walker loft had four birds home before the next birds being clocked by the

perennial champion J. Marifiote who landed two together to take the minor places. Another

fantastic effort considering the late start to the race season the Marifiote's had.

Perkins Bros and R Stasinowsky again were well and truly in the hunt falling short by seconds.

Flock training is not a major focus of the Littlehampton Hampton loft, with natural health and fitness

being of paramount importance.

Race Moulamein SAD

Patience is the key….

Another tough day at the office with a relatively slow velocity with the Moulamein SAD being won at

982 metres a minute by Viv Allan & G’Dghts with a lovely little Blue Bar Hen. These were tough birds

responding to a challenge and they responded with a voracity and determination that was a credit to

them and their coaches. A reasonably close second was seasoned racer R. Chapman up north and

then all the way down south the ever consistent G & L Harris.

Birds gifted from past champion flyer Warren Moyle make up the foundation of the Allan family

which are bred to fly the eastline, hence the need to have patience and perseverance, the family is

not particularly fast but is resolute in their pursuit of home. SA 15 02905 had one previous start over

the hills and then sent fresh to Moulamein.

The Blue Bar hen has now earned a respite from racing and will return to the race track in 2017.

Then consideration will be given to her finding her way into the stock house. Patience personified.

The Great Grandfather was an Association winner but the female line of this family is where the

power is. Her Dam having flown twenty races both east and north id career with a credible twenty

ninth association from Pinnaroo.

Her sire is line bred from a Bathurst association winner but again the real power is with the girls. A

full sister has gain many association places be 21st, 25th, 15th and 28th Association from five races. Not

a bad resume’.

Genetic reinvigoration is introduced by physiology selection or from outstanding friends who know

how to fly good pigeons.

Viv is a devotee to natural assistance to health matters and a rigid routine.

Race Bookaloo ( Verco Series)

A Good Honest Race...

C E Vanderlinden followed up her successful season opener with a good honest win from Bookaloo in the Verco series, Flying a genuine race the birds hit their lofts with seconds of each other with the Vanderlinden Blue bar hen edging out Curea & Langer winners from Hawker and Mundy & Hendrie showing some good signs coming in to the association events. A steady velocity just under 1100 metres per minute proved the race was no push over with good pigeons coming to the fore. Birds numbers were less than anticipated but that just goes to show just how these pigeons are. The hen just headed the field with a 1116.981 meters per minute average velocity. Given the weather conditions a very credible effort.

Hamilton Racing

A true test....

Genuine pigeon racing was on display from Underbool with the Associations top flyers displaying

their skill and the incredible feats of their lofts.

With Less than 30 seconds separating the top three The professional outfit of Hamilton Racing edged

out the elite performers Cook and Edwards with the young Stars Troy & Julie Tirrell being right in

the mix. Hamilton Racing ever being the professional outfit hold their cards close advise the winner

had “ two wings & feathers”.

A slow velocity race in the low nine hundred metres a minute was a real test with the quality birds

coming to the fore. All three leaders had multiple birds in the top thirty , a very impressive result

given the toughness of the race. Once again the east line races gave an overall result with place

getters coming from all sections with the winner in the far north , and the others to the south. Its

appears from the clocking times these birds were doing it on their own. A remarkable achievement

for them all.

The other interesting note was the first three place getters were all young birds , so the future looks

very positive.

Underbool. July 16. Owners 112 and birds 2086. SA14 20337 BCC. Con Moukas. The tables are turned....

To avoid any possible clash at the scheduled release point Underbool was substituted for the official programmed race of Ouyen. This proved a masterful move with a very steady race and a very close finish with four members all clocking within minutes of each other. Mostly north of the city the clocking must have been frenzied with four members clocking just seconds before 12.30pm. Con Moukas has returned to the winners circle edging out the perennial champs Cook and Edwards by a mere 9 seconds (point seven metres a minute). Very much in the mix were Adelaide Race lofts, Ninard Stojakovic all with striking distance of the winner. Meanwhile down south, Rod Stasinowsky was back to the good old days with a very credible fifth. Con’s blue Checker Cock SA 14 20337 was having his fourth race for the season after not racing as a yearling. He has always been in the mix with loft mates taking it in turns to be the clock bird. (North Suburban has single bird clocking) The sire of the Underbool winner was an unraced cock bird bred specifically for stock and has never raced. His mum is a cracker being a Busschaert from the old Major Wilson/ Merv Hatch days. 1st Association Marla , dam of 1st Association Wedderburn , 1st Association Gilgandra, 6th Association The Twins, 11th Association.... and more are all to her credit. A couple of races ago a full sister was 2nd to Cook & Edwards from Hawker. This week the tables were turned and Cook & Edwards took the 2nd placing.

This family is building a strong foundation for loft and are a forced to be respected in 2016. A close winner over Con Moukas’ Blue Chequer hen with Ninard Stojakovic clocking very closely on the tails of the leaders. Again very healthy velocities prevailed with the leading birds doing some 1500 metres minute. Alan Cook attributes these wins to a good family of birds and a lot of hard work. This is an exceptional family having won a number of Hawkers in the last couple of years. Another full sister was clocked a couple of weeks ago for a good club win. These birds know when to break and know how to trap. Alan and Dennis put a lot of value on this family as he strongly believes its take a real good bird to win these shorter distance races with the large volume of good birds competing and not a lot of luck involved. The Hereman / Houben’s are certainly a good combination in the beginning of the season. The Partnership puts a lot of hard work into this family and is currently reaping the well‐deserved rewards. Double the Fun Just “Wow” is the only way this author can describe this performance. The

furthest marker in the entire competition takes out the fast Parachilna. Nearly

1800 metres / minute Snyders L & Buxton D landed two birds with the

Partnership of Buxton & Snyders Families landing the next birds. Recording

1793.720 metres per minute this blue checker cock with his 3 friends blitzed

the field.

Rounding out the tops spots was A Harris at West Torrens while the Barber’s

won the clocking competition across the road from the old master Andrewatha

& March.

David speaking on behalf of the partnership said he had never seen the birds

come it from such a height. The call birds where the first to spot them and it

took quite some time for the birds to come down. These four birds had found a

height that the slip stream was most favourable. Bunn Snyders relates a similar

story in that the birds took forever to come down as they were at a

tremendous height. All four birds are a Buxton / Snyder’s blend with some

European and old Aussie blood combined. The Janssen’s of old have a very

heavy influence in these birds. Of interest is the second bird to the Buxton

Snyder’s Family loft , this hen has been with the clock bird seven times , talk

about the perennial bridesmaid with on many occasions the clocked bird either

won the club or placed significantly in the open result. The same blood

produced 1st Hawker in the Verco Series 2015.

The Partnership where pleasantly surprised at the result given that this family

has generally been sunny day racer’s but on this occasion the cloud cover did

not inhibit this outstanding performance.

David observed that of the families they have, the ‘Old Reliable” ones are now

producing results that are inconsistent with previous years and that can go for

the others as well.

JUST FOG

Brian Donovan at Virginia usually has a good view of the Adelaide hills toward Mt

Lofty.

Well today couldn’t see a thing, thick, heavy fog covered the hills and Mt Lofty was

not discernible.

This Brian thought would be a good day; and so it was.

SA 14 02065 a Blue checker hen down from the Hamilton Van Loons and Brian’s

Goodger pigeons this consistent hen finally broke through for win.

The Birds were being clocked north and south of the city centre with Brian

Donovan at Virginia taking the day with a Blue Checker hen SA 14 02065 from

Craig Nesbit at Elizabeth with G Pimlott & Son & Gary & Ivana Cummings rounding

out the top four south of the City all arriving to their lofts within minutes of each

other.

Flying five of the first seven races in 2015 this hen was always destined for

something special as she was always in the first group to the loft, a very reliable

racer.

Some twenty minutes in front of Brian’s next bird this hen did it all on her own.

Her pedigree is filled with class being the granddaughter of Brian’s first Association

Temora.

Brian has great faith in the old adage, “There is only one rule in pigeon racing, and

that is, there are no rules”

Brian believes in mixing up the training, varying from group to solo training.

The Fighting Cock

A clear winner over the established elite was a very satisfy first major win for George Tsonis,

This cock received his race nomination for fighting in the corner of loft. Keen and ready to go 11230 was hampered and marked.

George out doing his soccer coaching duties got the report from his father that the Koopman / Van Dyke cock just kept doing laps around the house. After eight laps he came down.

George coached the Blue Chequer Cock AUST 15 11230 into a decisive win over arch rival Hamilton Racing with Fred Dimella cause some anxious moments for the leading two.

AUST 15 11230 is a product of the Koopman / Van Dyke race team from National Lofts. , a good clear velocity of 11.6 metres per minute showed his class over the journey. It was his first start.

A steady velocity of 1100 metres minutes indicated a good solid fly and the birds did it on their own without assistance.

Further proof of the quality of the birds is his sister was his third bird home.

Up early in the morning George and his father put in many hours in the training of the birds often hampering for training flights at 3.30am before going to work.

11230 is being assigned the Parachillna race and George is hoping he is in the corner fighting again.

So if he is fighting be very aware, George is coming again.

First East Line Race

First time over the hills the northern flyers dominated with a good solid velocity of 1300 metres

minute. Curea and Langer Lofts with the double bridesmaids Hamilton Racing (Two seconds on the

same weekend) took the Lameroo races honours.

A good clear win by Curea & Langer by some 14.75 metres minute was a very proud moment for the

duo.

Down from the old “Aussie” blood of Kakoschke X Goodger it was home unseen. As with us all the

second bird bought the excitement only to find the first bird had like a stealth bomber landed ,

clocked itself ,eaten and preened unseen. Two surprises in a matter of minutes. The adrenalin

rushes just keep coming.

The Result of a “Love” mating he still has the blood lines. His grandfather a Kakoschke was fifth and

sixth Association from Farina and Nyngan respectively. Further his brother was clocked from Tatura

for an Association placing.

This family are proving to be a very good east line family. Messer’s Langer and Curea are looking

forward to really big things from this blue chequer cock.

SURPRISE!!

The prince of mirth John Crummy was making lunch on this rare occasion. (Mrs Crummy was busy). Being the fastidious type John was engrossed in the joy of lunch. Looking up to his surprise and excitement he calls the good wife, “we got two!!” at approximately two minutes past twelve these two had landed together from Lameroo. Joyfully on the landing board, John made a hasty advanced to usher them through the trap. Quite a good time our Glenelg comic thinks. Well the surprises kept coming, entering the loft there was a Blue cheque hen, sitting quietly on her perch, fed, watered and busing preening. John & Marg both had missed the arrival of the First open Lameroo. They are very thankful for the Electronic Timing System. This is the couple’s first major win since returning the sport after a forty year absence. They have many, many club races in the six year return

Under the expert tutelage of his good friend and mentor Mark Bruggerman and gift pigeon’s from all sources (he is a very likeable chap) has become a forced to be respected. This achievement is remarkable in that four competitors were all clocking at 11.58 am. The Champion flyer Leo Duits in the north, Hackham West Lofts in the South, Darryl Stasinowsky in the middle A fastidious record keeper, Murphy’s Law prevailed and the origin of the game hen, has eluded our winner.SA 14 17726 was bred on the “loft floor” from gifted birds from persons unknown. Of English origin John hails from a strong pigeon background. His grandfather and father were both astute pigeon racers. Hard Work and Good Pigeons pays off.

Hamilton Racing topped the table with a sensational return from Stirling North Six birds on the drop with a young blue Cheque Hen being first across the pad. The young hen was having her first race. SA 15 21708 being from the good Janssen and Van Loon of Hamilton Racing , she is actually a half-sister to the 1st SAHPA Ceduna SAD 540klm 2012. Greg says always be aware of the multiples either in the stock loft or the racing loft. It was another close result with K & K Watson at Elizabeth needing less than minute to top the sheet. The race was quicker than the previous week with no wind at ground level and slight south west breeze up high the birds made good time. Hard work and good pigeons is the key to success says Hamilton’s Racing manager Greg Hamilton. After a year off to recuperate Hamilton Racing has started the 2016 season with a strong statement and god depth with in the race loft. These Janssen and Van Loon family have held the loft in high esteem and it appears there may well be another champion in the making. The Loft again is setting a bench mark for all to attain and strive for. A fully professional outfit this loft is one to be modelled for any ones future success. What a gem of a racer. Alan Cooke & Dennis Edwards have a miracle pigeon in their loft. This true diamond has been discovered and the partnership is now weighing up its options. Race on or go to the stock loft. The partnership will decide her future shortly. SA 14 01058 a delightful blue bar hen has topped the convoy again being the fastest bird in the first race of the season from Stirling North. At a steady velocity of 1023.922 metres a minute this little pigeon has again proved it’s no fluke but she only just got her beak in front of the second place getter raced by Perkins Brothers by a mere eleven seconds. Topping the Association in 2014 from Hawker at 1343.686 metres per minute, 4th Association from the Lyndhurst YBC at 1195.95 metres per minute, second in the inaugural Walford 10,000 and 4th open Stirling North this game little hero has it all. Winner the bird of the year in the strong Vitesse club in 2014 she has started the 2016 season in fine form. Impeccably bred from The Jack Vanderlinder Heremans and the Western Australian Houbens this bird has it all. Pedigree, strength, power and a will to win that we are all looking for. The partnership is most impressed with Heremans, stating the cross lifted the loft a whole other level and bought the loft considerable success. C E Vanderlinden Wins the Angel Flight

A clear winner on the day by some 14 metres per minute, the Vaderlinden’s have taken out the Redhill charity event. The lead up race for the season was hotly contested with 1150 birds competing in the 150 km event. Land with a multitude of loft mated AU 14 447 a Blue Checker hen was first over the pad to take out the lead up event. Strong winning bloodlines carried the day with Heremans blood seeing her through to take the prize. Au 14 447 is a half-sister to the Gold Coast 50000 winner and a half-sister to 1st open Hawker in 2014. Winning blood lines and good hard work have bought opening success to the Vanderlinden Lofts. The Redhill Angel Flight is the only charity event run by the association and is gain active participation each year it’s been flown and all proceeds are donated to the Angel Flight Charity.
