There will be many stalls with important health information as well as many give-aways for families. Our 5-6 students will also have a stall, to showcase their learning about “being human” and being healthy.
We will have very important guests at our Health Launch, Gabrielle Williams MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Carers & Volunteers; and the Mayor of Brimbank, Cr John Hedditch.
We will finish the formalities with our raffle prizes, which include a party at Crocs, a Derrimut gym membership, personal training sessions and hampers. We will also have a few of our favourite food vans available for an early Friday night dinner.
Student Attitudes to School Survey
Each year, our Year 5 and 6 students complete an
important survey from the Department of Education. In
2017, year 4 students will also complete this survey.
This survey gives us important information about the
connections our students have with our school, the
teachers and their peers. It also gives us information
about behaviour and how engaged they are in their
learning. These students will be completing this survey
in the next few weeks.
Early Cold Mornings
I have noticed a rising number of students arriving at
school when I arrive. Sometimes this is before 8am. Our
playgrounds are not supervised until 8:45am, please
ensure that your children are not arriving before that
time. Our playground is supervised until 3:30pm. Please
ensure your child is picked up before then. The YMCA
provides a great before and afterschool care program.

From the Principal, Joanna Stanford
Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,
Naplan
Thank you for the support of all year 3 and 5 students as they completed their Naplan assessments. Our students worked hard and tried their best. We will continue to know your children as learners and differentiate their learning.
Health Launch
We have 2 weeks to go to our fabulous Health Launch on
Friday 26th May from 3:15-6pm. I am looking forward to
enjoying this special event with you, your families and our
local community. As you arrive, you will be given a show
bag to collect a range of resources and giveaways. You will
also receive raffle tickets. We will again, have a chance to
have adult health checks. Our children will have a chance
to attend the Teddy Bear Hospital and your children are
invited to bring along their teddy to see a doctor, as well
as see a dentist and an optometrist.
We will be launching the plans for our new sensory garden that will be in our current Stonehenge area. This is an exciting new outdoor space that has been designed in conjunction with an Occupational Therapist and has been funded through the Building Partnerships in the West funding.
We use the Derrimut Primary School Facebook as an important way to celebrate our day to day achievements and get information out to our parent community. Please join our Facebook page for important updates.
I would also like to wish a Happy Mothers Day to all of
the wonderful Mothers and Carers that have made a
difference to the lives of our Derrimut School
Community.

Symeonidis Being an excellent listener
Chatter, chatter, chatter, the sound of my teeth going up and down was the only thing you could hear because on Friday 20th August it was like an ice block on the oval. The first thing was splitting into age groups.
The 10 year olds were doing Discus first. I was in the 10 year old age group even though I am not 10 but I will be soon. As soon as you can imagine! I twisted my body, swung my arm and let go of the discus. Wow! What a great shot. After everybody had their go I had to have another go with some other girl. Another great shot from Leia. It was a great shot but not big enough for a ribbon.
