October Village Exhibit: A Life in the Arts
Arts in Bartlett presents a new October Exhibit at the Village Hall Gallery, featuring
Greta Pfeifer's watercolor, oil and pastels art.
Being influenced by artists in her family, Greta have always enjoyed making art. Her formal art training was at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, and a bachelor's degree in painting from Northeastern Illinois University, as well as classes at the DuPage Art League in Wheaton. Her favorite mediums are oil, watercolor, and gouache, and sometimes mixed media and photog-raphy. Because she enjoys nature, her subjects are mostly landscapes, and she likes the light, shadows, and textures of still lifes. Greta also enjoy painting people and experimenting in abstract art. As a hobby, she finds painting to be a very satisfy-ing form of self expression, and she hopes that anyone viewing her paintings will enjoy interpreting them in their own way. This exhibit is on display from October 1-30, at Village of Bartlett 2nd floor Art Gallery, 228 Main St, Bartlett, open Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, Saturday 9:00am-noon. The public is also invited to a reception with refreshments and time to visit with the artist, on Tuesday, October 16, from 5:30-6:45pm. For more information on the exhibit, call 630-372-4152.

Budding Talent Grant Program
How many kids dream of being an artist, musician, actor, dancer, a writer? One of the obstacles for many children who display talent in the performing, visual or literary arts face is the lack of money to support the development of their talents. That is why AiB has developed the “Budding Talent” grant program to help fill this void and cultivate the child’s potential for excellence that has been recognized by instructors, parents and teachers.
Arts in Bartlett will provide mini-grants of up to $250 each for a specific need as outlined by an instructor, teacher or director of a visual, performing or literary arts program.
Link to the application with information on criteria, process and selection from the Grants page on www.artsinbartlett.org

Letter from the President
Happy October!
October is Illinois Arts & Humanities Month! The Illinois Arts Council (IAC) and the Illinois Humanities Council (IHC) are pleased to present Illinois Arts & Humanities (AH!) Month, a statewide celebration encouraging all Illinoisans to
establish, deepen, and expand our relationships with the arts and humanities.
Illinois Arts & Humanities Month marks the expansion of Illinois Arts Week, established in 1978 to focus attention on our state's vast cultural resources and to increase public awareness of the arts. In the years since Arts Week's inception, hundreds of communities and countless individuals throughout Illi-nois have come to appreciate and celebrate the animating force of the arts and creativity. Whether exploring or expressing the human condition, Illinois AH! Month is a great time to create and share more of these AH! moments
with people throughout our communities statewide.
As you look through our newsletter, you will see that we strive to do that in many different ways, and hope you continue to support us, let others know about Arts in Bart-lett, and join in our many great programs and
events!
As always, everyone is invited to our monthly board meetings the last Monday of the month at 7pm at the Log Cabin. If you are able to volunteer inside our Center for the Arts, espe-cially on Saturday’s, let us know. Please con-tact us through phone, email or website, as
found in this newsletter.

Bartlett Heritage Days
It was a great get-together!
Perfect weather, fun activities for the whole family, and events showcasing Bartlett’s rich heritage made the 3 rd Annual Bartlett Heritage Days, Sept. 7-9, 2012, a tremendous success. An estimated 8,000 visited downtown Bartlett and the carnival at Leiseberg Park for the three-day celebration with friends and
family. Visitors from surrounding communities joined in as well.
Arts in Bartlett played a major role in planning special events that highlighted the arts, including a Heritage Quilt Hanging exhibit at Village Hall, performances by the Bartlett Adult Theatre, the Bartlett International Chorus, children’s art activities and face painting. In addition, many members
volunteered in other capacities.
Nine entries were judged at Saturday’s Art Chair Contest and are now on display in the Arts Center. They will be auctioned at a “charity” benefit at Arts in Bartlett’s 10 th Anniversary Celebration in December. Anyone can still
decorate a chair for this auction to benefit youth scholarships and the Budding Talent grant.
All seats were taken for the six tours of historic Bartlett homes and businesses in the free trolley sponsored by the Village of Bartlett. The tour was developed with the help of Joan and Gary Plice of the Bartlett Historical Society, Cecilia Green, Marlene Palmer and Pam Rohleder of the Bartlett History Museums. Docents narrating the tour who added their own colorful insights were Eve Kist, Pam Rohleder, architects Matt Falco and Charles Madary, Marlene Palmer and Eileen Lucietto.
Ethan Temple created the “birthday” chair garnering
him the “best theme” ribbon.
The family of Roseanne Derango DDS of Derango Family Dental created this award winner that judges picked as best depicting
Bartlett’s heritage.
Ken Witz of Bartlett won the “most creative” ribbon
for his drum chair.
Rita and Larry Lopienski created this
chair for Bartlett’s Sister City Miaoli

pattern.
