Friday 19th March

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful

and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit

And they shall be created. And you shall renew The face of the earth.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to the families who attended last night’s Confirmation Family evening. It was wonderful to see all Confirmation candidates engage in rich discussion with their families. We look forward to celebrating this Sacrament at Our Lady Help of Christians Church on Sunday. A reminder Friday the 26th of March is a school closure day, no students are to attend. Staff will be working with Paul Spence to create a new school Vision. Paul has

already harnessed the voices of students and parents and is eager to combine these with staff input.

Student Wellbeing Week OLHC Student Wellbeing Week has been a fantastic experience, full of engaging and valuable lessons relating to students managing themselves and others. There has been a ‘buzz’ around the place, students engaging in a variety of activities relating to self appreciation, kindness, gratitude and mindfulness. Here are some examples of student work across different year levels: Year 1: Year 1S presented at this week’s whole school assembly demonstrating the importance of Wellbeing Week! We have been learning how to ask our friends ‘Are you OK?’ and how it’s important to check-in on our friends. We read ‘Elmer,’ and shared to the audience why we are one of a kind. ‘I am one of a kind because I like making friends’ - Elenor 1V ‘I am one of a kind because I am good at drawing’ ‘- Sarah 1S

Sofia M 3K - ‘This activity showed us that we all know how to be kind and we are kind’.

Mia N 3S - ‘My favourite part of this week was Gratitude Thursday because we wrote and thought about all the different things that make us happy. I learnt that everyone has different things that make them happy and that we always need to remember to be thankful for what we have.’ Year 5: Jazel K - ‘One of the activities we did this week in Year Five was called Who Am I? The goal of this task was to explain to the reader about yourself and to express what makes you special as a person. Each of us is special in our own way because no person is the same as any other. Firstly, on a piece of paper was a list of blank sentences that started with the words ‘I am’. All you had to do was fill out the empty spaces with describing words that describe you best as a person. For example: I am an amazing friend to play with inside and outside. So when you finished the task you could look at the overall idea of what type of person you are. Throughout the week, Years 1- 3 had a visit from the Carlton Library, where Librarian Lizzie read stories about acknowledging their personal strengths and feelings. We look forward to developing our connections with organisations in our local community more in the future.

Today Years 4 - 6 experienced a Yoga Workshop, focusing on learning new ways to be mindful and self manage. Students enjoyed working though some poses and practising their meditation skills. Thank you to all who have participated in this year's Student Wellbeing Week. We hope that the students have taken away some valuable lessons around ways to feel grateful, appreciate their strengths and be mindful when they feel they need to. Have a happy weekend! Ms Bridget Confirmation Candidates for 2021

Education in Victoria. We have much to celebrate and be thankful for the achievements and opportunities offered in Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools. In the early colony of Victoria, Catholic education had a humble beginning. Largely staffed by the laity, the first Catholic schools in Victoria ran on the smell of an oily rag with limited resources. As the demand for Catholic schools grew, the Bishops of Victoria responded by inviting religious orders of men and women, mostly from Ireland, to establish schools in their various traditions and charisms throughout Victoria. Today there are 331 Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne; 256 primary, 69 secondary and six special schools that educate more than 111,000 students. Catholic schools seek to educate the whole person; academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually within the rich traditions of the Catholic church. In the twenty-first century, Catholic education aspires to develop global citizens that are technological aware and environmentally responsible. It promotes Catholic Social Teachings. One in four students within the Archdiocese of Melbourne attend a Catholic school and the system is the fourth largest education system in Australia. As an identity the Archdiocese of Melbourne is the third largest Catholic Archdiocese in the world. On a personal note, I am extremely grateful for my own positive and rich experience of a Catholic education provided by the Brigidine Sisters in the Sandhurst Diocese.
