1.1 AGN Race numbers for 2015 Entries are available at the clubhouse on Tuesdays from 17:00 to 18:30. Alternatively, runners can also register at Run-A-Way Sport in Lynnwood. Please note that reserved numbers will only be kept until the end of January. Membership fees for 2015:

1.2 NB!!!! McCarthy Toyota 10/21km Road Race
Helpers needed!!!!!!!!! Please avail yourselves on 7 February and lend a hand at this race presented by Magnolia. It is all good fun for the love of running. Anyone prepared to help out can contact Tinus, Freddie, Charl or Colin Billau.
We need helpers for the following duties:
Marshals Helpers to assist with 5km and 10km entries Helpers to hand out medals at the finish Water point captains Parking ground attendants
All helpers will receive a McCarthy race t-shirt and food and cold drinks will be available for all helpers at the venue club gazebo.

1.3 Comrades Roadshow 28 January 2015
As part of the Comrades Marathon Association’s marketing campaign, Magnolia will be hosting one of the 19 Comrades Workshops aimed at motivating and educating runners taking part in the Comrades Marathon. 1.4 NB!!!!! PWC George Claassen Road Race 31 Jan 2015 Venue Changed!!! New venue: Pick ‘n Pay Hyper, Faerie Glen on the corner of Atterbury road and Silikaats Causeway.
1.5 Ethical road running!!! The club remind runners not to pirate during races, i.e. run without entering. This is a bad reflection on any club and unethical.
1.6 Magnolia Long run – Sunday 26 April 2015 (Tentative) Magnolia’s annual Long Run will again take place this year on Sunday 26 April. The distance will be 45km with a cut-off time of 12:30 – 3 laps of 15km each. You can do a 4th lap but have to provide your own refreshments. More detail to follow.
1.7 Achievements Please e-mail all your running/walking race achievements to Colin at [email protected].
1.8 Running vests New running vests are available at the club house and can also be collected on Tuesdays from 17:30 to 18:30. Running vests are also available at Run-A-Way Sport in Lynnwood.

Saturdays
Runners
Saturday Long run MOVES to Fort Klapperkop – hill training session!!!!!!!!!!
Our Saturday traditional long training run will start at the TOP of Fort Klapperkop, Johan Rissik Drive, Waterkloof to provide much needed hill raining. You can choose between 10 or 15 or 20km (twice). There is water halfway and at the finish, but if you need an energy supplement, please bring your own bottle. Last year the group grew to 25 - 30 runners all of different strengths.
Time: 05h30, however, due to the nature of the course you can start at any time which is convenient to you. From Feb we will move the start to 06h00.
We park in front of the Military Intelligent College and the cars should be secure as there are military guards at the gate.
This run is scheduled for every weekend until end of May. All runners from all clubs and different strengths are welcome to join us.

Walkers
On Saturdays the walker group meets at the Hazelwood Food market in Menlo Park at 6:00 for an approximate 10km walk.

Time 06:00
Distance: Approximately 20km departing from the clubhouse.
Cost: R15 per runner to cover costs of drinks and treats.
ALL WELCOME!!
A vehicle travels with the group, at the pace of the slowest runner and provides cold water, Coke, Powerade and some snacks every 3km. No fixed route and we travel in a different direction every week.

All members are invited once again to make use of the gazebo at the races. The gazebo is there for all members to enjoy. Dirk is our dedicated “gazebo man” and have been appointed to support us at most races. Cold drinks and snacks are provided by the club. Beer/ciders will be available at no cost at races with a distance of 32km and more, otherwise beer/ciders will be sold for R10. Club tent will be at Akasia race this Saturday.

Please note that we still need some volunteers to do the Sunday run car support for the Sundays in March. The success of the Sunday run is dependent on helpers to present a club run and we can’t expect the same people to do it every time. Dear Magnolia –friends,
It is with “groot verdriet” that I have to say goodbye to all of you. I will change from my present position at Netherlands Ambassador to becoming Deputy Director General Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. One year earlier than foreseen, but this is sometimes how things go in the diplomatic service. When I came to your beautiful country in 2011, I had done a few marathons (but to be honest, some time ago) and many 21 and 10 kms. But when I told South Africans, asked what sports I did, that I was a long distance runner, the first question always was: “Did you run Comrades?” I had to say no. The 2
nd question was: “did you do Two Oceans?” I had to say no again. And then I always
received a look like “but you are not a real long distance runner”.
So I decided to join Magnolia in 2012 and started preparing. The result: two Comrades (plus back to back-medal), 3 ultras and 2 marathons. And many other distances of course. Plus endless miles of training. I realize that I could not have achieved this with support of Magnolia. The Sunday-morning runs made me much stronger, especially after having run a half marathon or something long on the Saturday before. I enjoyed the talks and advice from other, much more experienced runners. I enjoyed our well-prepared drinks and snacks (sometimes even biltong!) during the training and at

the Magnolia tent after big runs. But I also enjoyed the quietness on Sunday-mornings at 6am, when we started our runs. Most favorite track: Fort Klapperkop.
I would like to thank all Magnolia runners for their friendship, advice and like-mindedness. Without you, I would not have been able to do it and I would have missed a wonderful part of South Africa’s sport culture. I hope club - management allows me to stay overseas member and I would like to continue receiving the newsletters. And who knows, if you want to run a marathon in The Netherlands or surroundings, please don’t hesitate. I can be reached at [email protected]

On 7 December 2014 Magnolia held their annual Christmas breakfast run. We also use this opportunity to give back to the community by collecting items of tinned food for the pediatric oncology ward in the Steve Biko Hospital through Lemon Tree Kids. ~Race report by Sol Jacobs~
The Johannesburg Running Festival 10 day race took place in South Africa on 13 December 2014. Sol Jacobs took part in this 10 Day Circuit Race from 13 to 23 December and shared a bit of his experience with us. The circuit is 471m and Sol did a whopping 1140 laps. This is a distance of 536km. There were 17 participants of whom 3 were walkers and the rest runners. Five of the runners were international (Israel, America, Ukraine, Australia and Brazil). Sol managed to win the walkers race and finished in an overall 9th position. Because he was the first participant ever above the age of 70 to take part in this 10 day event, it is also a South African record.
