Induction Program For Teaching Staffs
The Gateway International School
has recently recruited 8 new
teachers to enhance the student’s
learning in International
Baccalaureate PYP wing and
organized for induction on October
7, 2017.
We are glad to induct them with an
interactive value-laden induction
program conducted by Ms. Kalpana
Bharaneedharan; exploring through
the IB learning engagements. The
induction started in full swing, with a
brainstorming session on ‘Education’
& ‘International Mindedness’. It
addressed the understanding of trans-
disciplinary themes and the in-depth
learning received in the conceptual
understanding, in comparison to the
topic based learning. The induction
greatly served as a guide to the teachers on the IB theory and its application of inquiry based
learning; ‘How best will the students learn?’
Science & Technology Exibition
The Mega Science, Technology and
Industrial Expo was venued at IIT , Madras,
Anna University and CSIR –CLRI ,Chennai,
owing to The India International Science
Festival -2017 organised by the Ministry of
Science and Technology, Govt. of India
National Institute of Ocean Technology,
Ministry of Earth sciences and Vibha .
The PYP -5, MYP 1-5 of Gateway
international School visited the expo at Anna
University on 16.10.2017. The focal theme of
the expo was ‘Science for New India ‘. There
were more than 300 stalls from all the states
of India exhibiting their scientific and
technical innovations. There were also
exhibits from various departments working
under the Government of India like
Department of atomic energy, (DAE), Defence
Research and Developmental Organisation
(DRDO), Indian Space Research Organisation
(ISRO), National Thermal Power Corporation
(NTPC) etc. The students had a useful time and
gained knowledge about various scientific
inventions and research carried out in those
sectors. The students were able to gain
detailed information from the delegates in a
many topic like cloning of trees, defence tanks,
missile operations carried out, organic
farming, developments in the field of
Biochemistry, sericulture, Aquaculture,
Handloom etc. The students also had a great
time in enjoying the fun filled science park in
the outdoors which enabled them to learn the
science facts through play models and games.
17th, October, 2017 is observed as the World Food
Day in honour of the founding of the Food &
Agriculture Organization of the UN in 1945.
The World is filled with diverse culture and tradition.
The tradition varies from country to country, but
food is the common element at every
celebration. Our PYP and MYP students gathered on
October 14th to share varieties of food items
prepared at home by them with the help of their
parents. This celebration was to emphasize on the
fact that the food produced and consumed is safe and
healthy and also to mark the significance of open-
mindedness, accepting food from different cultures
The tiny tots of K1&K2 enjoyed the visit to 'OMR Food
court' - ‘Moosa land’ which is built with three pillars -
kids, fun and safety-holding the roof of human
interactions. The students explored through the play way
method using different apparatus that enhanced their
fine motor and thinking skills.
Enthusiastically communicating with peers, the students
enjoyed the trip thoroughly. This was a learning
experience, where kids learnt to express themselves
while also developing their social and physical skills.
The Students of K3 were taken for a field trip to a
Temple, a Mosque and a Church on 25th October 2017.
The students were happy to witness all places that
aroused great interest among them to know about Indian
culture and tradition. They showed great interest in
performing prayers. They were open-minded to respect
other religions, and this turned out to be a day of delight.
A visit to Annai Fathima Ilam – An Old Age Home (dt. …)
With the sole conviction of not isolating the old and deprived
children, it is a blessing for many who have been sheltered at
Annai Fathima illam located at Karapakkam, Chennai.
PYP students had a deep insight into some of the bitter and
disillusioned realities of life. Children of various ages who
either had no family or have lost their families in natural
calamities were also part of the centre.
After small entertainment programme children were teamed
along with the other children of the welfare centre that
provided first hand experiences to the learners and as a part
the
school’s initiative to sensitize the young towards the aged and
the needy. One of the elderly woman shared few words on how
one should treat old aged parent.
The teachers also got an opportunity to console the elders and
offered fruits, cookies; and the most precious help was to vent
the feelings of the old which made many outbursts their
emotions.
It was really a joyous experience for all the students to visit the old age home and interact
with its inmates. Some children also quoted “This is the best field trip”.
The most inspiring lesson learnt at the home was, that in spite of facing so many hardships
these young and aged people have brave hearts and are still trying to find endless ways to be
happy to live. This trip really moved the children of Gateway … and reminded them of the
reality of life!
Guest Lecture on Health & Dengue
Dengue, a mosquito borne tropical disease is spreading rapidly in Tamil Nadu.
Our MYP students wanted to take an initiative to create awareness about
dengue in a local community. Guest lecture by Dr. G. J. Christian opened their

Chennai on 27th Oct 2017 educated our students through a detailed
presentation. He is also the Principal Investigator in Case-control Dengue
Clinical Trial, published under the title, “Protective effect of Poly-herbal
Siddha formulation - Nilavembu Kudineer against common Viral fevers

School Uniforms
Many students have been attending school with incorrect uniforms.
Please be aware that all students are required to wear the appropriate
school uniform.
For boys - Dark grey shorts, white half sleeve shirt, grey/black socks,
tie, belt, black shoes. On Tuesdays and Fridays – house T-shirt, black
pant, grey/black socks, black shoes.
For girls – Dark grey pinafore, white half sleeve shirt, grey/black
socks, tie, belt, black shoes. On Tuesdays and Fridays – house T-shirt,
black pant, grey/black socks, black shoes.
These items must be purchased from school. Please be aware that if
your child attends school in improper uniform, you will be called to
bring your child the correct uniform.
Wearing the school uniform helps to build pride and school spirit and
when the correct uniform is not worn and or it is dirty or sloppy it does
not build a culture of pride or care for one’s school, we are asking
parents to assist us by requiring their children to dress in appropriate
uniform before leaving for school.
Thank you for your support.
