Thank you to members of the St. Barbara Community for volunteering Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Urban Ministries Durham for the Philoptochos Sponsored meal. We were able to serve approximately 250 people. We served a wonderful summer meal: Angelina's Kitchen drumsticks and green beans, coleslaw, potato salad, and cake with lemonade. Many thanks to Theky Pappas, Martha and Vicky Stephens, Andrea, Elizabeth, and Dean, Father Stavroforos, John and Dena Paliouras, Ange-lina’s Kitchen, and Amanda!

PARAKLESIS SERVICE TO THE MOST HOLY THEOTOKOS

It is the custom of the Church to seek the intercessions of the Theotokos during the first two weeks of August leading up to the Dormition of the Theotokos (Assumption) on August 15. These intercessions are

included in the beautiful service of Paraklesis to the Most Holy Theotokos where prayers are offered to God for the spiritual and physical health and wellbeing of our living loved ones, just as prayers are offered for our de-parted loved ones during the Memorial (Mnymosynon) Services.

You may use the form provided on the previous page, in the “Services and Information” section of the Archdiocese email bulletin, or available in the Church narthex and hall, to list the names of loved ones to be prayed for during the Paraklesis services. Please return the form to Father Stavroforos.

AHEPA NEWS This year's annual AHEPA National Convention will take place in Las Vegas, July 23 through July 28. Our Durham AHEPA delegate is Larry Odzak. Larry, as well as many delegates from our District, will support the bid by Gus Stefanadis, a respected friend of our chapter, to be elected Co-Chairman of the Convention. Gus Stefanadis is an esteemed member from Florida and past AHEPA Supreme Vice-President, as well as the father and grandfather, respectively, of our own Durham members and St. Barbara pa-rishioners Jim Stefanadis and Jim's son, young Gus Stefanadis. The election of senior Gus Stefanadis as Co-Chairman will place the business of our National Convention in good hands. Upon his return, Larry will give us a report and more news.
