Lay Servant Ministry classes comingsoon

Lay Servant Ministries is one of the mostsignificant lay leadership development programs

available within the United Methodistconnec�on. Through this system of equippingand empowering, lay servants have theopportunity to grow as disciples of Jesus Christwho then go and make other disciples.

Planning 2017 Series?

Installation Service

Bishop Palmer invites all clergy and laityto a杣end the Installa�on Service of ournew Superintendent, Rev. Dr. ToddAnderson on Sunday, September 11. Itwill take place at Faith CommunityUnited Methodist Church in WestChester beginning at 4pm. A recep�on

with a carving sta�on, hors d'oeuvres and desserts will follow. 

ORV grant recipients will be on hand for our annual Abundant Fruit Gathering toshare stories from the ministries that were supported with your appor�onmentdollars. A district choir is being formed to sing "He Never Failed Me Yet" andrehearsal will begin at 2:45pm the day of the event. Please bring a specialcongrega�onal Bible for a blessing. Clergy you are invited to robe and process inand sit together for the service. Free childcare will be provided from 2:45 to 5:30.

Two Words Growing ChurchesDon't Useby Rebekah Simon­Peter for MinistryMatters

I'd like to delete the words just and simply from church vocabulary.They're dishonest. I know; I used them waytoo o柜ټen as a pastor. As in, "To be a discipleof Jesus Christ, all you have to do

is simply give your life to him." Or, "To join this church, you just have to come to anew member's class." Or, "Just give what you are able." Or, "To be on thiscommi杣ee, we just need you to a杣end a monthly mee�ng."

I used those words because I was afraid to scare people off.

Barbara Jean Donaugh‐Kling, 82, who passed away August 20, 2016. She was amember of Church of the Messiah UMC in Westerville. Barbara was the daughter ofthe late Glenna Mae and Bill V. Davis. She was preceded in death by her firsthusband, Rev. Theron E. "Ted" Donaugh who was a Re�red Elder in the West OhioConference. Barbara is survived in death by her second husband, Robert L.Kling. Obituary. A memorial service is being held on Saturday, September 10 at 11AM at Church of the Messiah UMC. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorialcontribu�ons be made to Church of the Messiah UMC and Ohio Health Hospice ofColumbus, Ohio. Condolences will reach the family online at the Boyd‐Born FuneralHome of Marion.
