January/ February 2018Messenger New London Presbyterian Church JANUARY/ FEBRUARY 2018 Messenger Pastor’s Corner As we begin another year, what will you carry forward from 2017 to sustain you during the days, weeks, and months to come? What will you leave behind because it no longer serves the person God is moving you to be? What acts of kindness, hope, joy, justice, and peace will you accomplish in this next year of your life? It is time to begin again, to seek every opportunity to live a life of love, faith, compassion, and whatever else God has called you to give to the world in which we live. Following Mary’s example, I will seek to live boldly, declare God’s promises already fulfilled, walk beside all who God places in my path, and continue to learn what it means to love my neighbor as myself. I will gather with friends, family, and others to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, tend to the most vulnerable, and stand up for what is right over what is convenient and comfortable. More than anything else, however, I will seek to live the best life I can live with God in me to accomplish more than I can possibly imagine. What are your big dreams for the coming year? What steps will you take to accomplish them? I dream of a world where all are treated with respect due to our common humanity and God’s presence in every person who walks this planet. I dream of a world where no child goes to bed hungry or lacks access to quality education that will help them achieve their dreams of a better tomorrow. I dream of a world where everyone receives exactly what they need to live life fully and completely. May the God of love grant you exactly what you need to accomplish the work only you can do in this world. May each day bring you closer to your fellow human beings and the restoration of whatever has been broken between you? May you know kindness, gentleness, mercy, hope, and love wherever you may go? May you find the courage to live according to what is true, honorable, good, and glorifying to God. With God living within you, there is hope, courage, justice, mercy, love, and commonality. Go out and live as one who witnesses to the light shining in the darkness and prepares others for the fullness of God’s kingdom in this time and place. We will not let you fall. Thanks be to God. Amen. Blessings, Aimee

JANUARY/ FEBRUARY 2018 Messenger

Pastor’s  Corner    As  we  begin  another  year,  what  will  you  carry  forward  from  2017  to  sustain  you  during  the  days,  weeks,  and  months  to  come? Amen.        Blessings,

Aimee

Have you ever partnered with a friend to sponsor an angel from our Angel Tree at Christmas time or treat someone to lunch on their birthday? When did you last pay dues to an organization that you belong to? Much like our membership dues to organizations, the monies given towards this year’s per capita go to our presbytery, synod, and denomination to maintain our connections with one another, further the ministries of Jesus Christ in our region and around the world, and share the costs that belong to the church. At the national level, this money funds work, such as helping us discern our vocations, participate in national and global ecumenical events, and support General Assembly, our biannual national gathering. In our synod, the allocated money supports the staff and covers committee expenses that impact ministries in our region. Finally, at the presbytery level, per capita helps connect pastors and congregations together for mission and support, provide opportunities for growth, and prepare for presbytery meetings. For 2018 our per capita amount is $37.00 for each member of the congregation. Please prayerfully consider paying this separately from your tithe or offering so we may better serve our local community.

Twelve of our Sunday school children performed the program “The Best Christmas Present Ever” on Sunday, December 10 during worship. The

children did an excellent job and enjoyed performing before the congregation. Jane Simmons directed the program, and Jane

appreciated all of the support from parents who had their children at church each week for practice.

Sunday School will resume on January 7, and all children are invited to

join us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Mission and Outreach Our church will be serving lunch at the Fellowship Cup on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. Those who come to eat really appreciate the meal. If you would like to help prepare and

serve the meal that day please call Betty. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Circle of Love thanks everyone who helped with the Angel Tree during Advent. We gave wonderful gifts to twenty

local children through the Fellowship Cup. The congregation truly showed their giving hearts as they shopped, packaged, or gave money for this worthwhile

project. Ken Brown at the Fellowship Cup was very appreciative.

The Circle of Love will begin the New Year with a meeting on January 17th at 6:30 p.m. in Friendship Hall. Jane

Simmons will serve as hostess, and the 2018 program will be planned. All women of the church are welcome to join us!

 Circle of Love

The next regular

meeting of the PW will be in Friendship

Hall on March 19, 2018. A

new program book for 2018

will be distributed at the meeting.

The Women’s Fellowship will

meet in Friendship Hall

on Monday, January 8, 2018 for a potluck at 11:30, followed

by a game of Court Whist. All

churchwomen are encouraged

to come and enjoy the

The Bazaar!

A big thank you for everyone who helped in putting together

another successful bazaar! The bazaar brought in about $4,500.00. There are of course expenses for the meat, jars,

advertising, etc. Thanks for all the delicious cookies, candies, and great pies. Thank you to all the women who were so dedicated in

canning all the meat and to the Circle of Love for making the noodles. A special thank you to Chance and Tom Davis for

canning and the beautiful gift baskets. Thank you so much to all who gave your time to work that day.

We have been sponsoring this bazaar for 17 years and have sold

hundreds of pounds of cookies and candies, countless jars of meets and an untold number of packages of noodles, along with lots of pies, soups, and cinnamon rolls. The funds we raise have gone to the general fund of the church and to the PW mission projects.

None of this can be accomplished without our church family and our loyal friends who have come faithfully to the bazaar every

year. ~From the officers of the PW a great big THANK YOU!!!
