When we receive your articles, they should already be close to publishable quality. Here are a few tips to ensure that your piece will be published on the Blog or The Borgen Magazine:

1. Double check for accuracy - after you've reported facts or figures in your article, check that you've recorded the correct information & credited the appropriate sources. 

2. Organization - if you're having trouble with the structure of your piece, try rearranging it in sections or in a list format, if applicable.

3. Check for grammar and plagiarism before submitting. 4. Read your piece out loud & remove any wordy sentences.5. When in doubt, consult the Writer's Guidebook or email us at

My Fundraising Strategy

As only 25 hours of your internship is spent fundraising, you’ll need to have a focused strategy to make sure you fully utilize these hours.

Your online fundraising campaign, along with your friends and family letters are required to ensure that you reach the minimum $500 required.

Step 1 is to set up your online fundraising profile: 

Go to: http://borgenproject.org/online-fundraising/ Answer the questionnaire and submit Email 2 photos you would want to use on your public profile to

[email protected] with the subject 'Profile Photos' [photos must be 650pixels x 400pixels (minimum)]

you can spread the word.  (Please allow 24 hours to process.)

You’ll also need to implement more strategies to ensure the target is reached. Utilize the 70+ fundraising ideas page to look for ideas or create your own strategies.

Remember, 25 hours of your internship is earmarked for fundraising. Complete the fundraising requirement early, so you can focus on your writing. Aim to raise your $500 before week 10.

organization’s financials and familiarize yourself with the donor FAQ’s so that you are prepared to effectively answer questions from potential donors.

Re read the Fundraising Ideas Ensure your fundraising strategy on the second page of this document is

complete. Use this link to Book a Meeting with your manager. Before the meeting, write

A minimum of letter 15 is required, but you’ll want to send at least 30 if you hope to raise $500 from letters alone. Anticipate that 1 in 8 might actually donate.
