Shri Narendra ModiHon’ble Prime Minister
Indian Railways is heralding a new era working for a turnaround in the system. To cater to the
diverse rail needs of the burgeoning populace, an array of modern facilities and services are being
inducted into the system progressively. Railway has been actively operational since 1951 in
Peninsular India and has become a major economic factor in the development of the region.
Railways has achieved many milestones in the past 7 years in Kerala. New mail / express trains have
been introduced. Apart from this, many train services have been extended and augmented with
additional coaches. The dedicated team of railway officials are working relentlessly, focussing on
developing infrastructure, enhancing capacity, operating passenger-friendly train services and
ensuring safety, security and cleanliness. This booklet is aimed at listing out some of the important
accomplishments in recent past and current projects in the State of Kerala. We also seek your co-
operation towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and to maintain cleanliness in rail premises. The
COVID-19 Pandemic presented a huge challenge to the Nation, testing its capabilities to the core.
Railway relied on a multi faceted plan of action with emphasis on meeting National needs through
Freight and Parcel trains, at the same time utilizing the prevailing lock down period to attend
infrastructure, safety and other works. Indian Railway was popular in Kerala during the lock down
for its Shramik Specials and Freight trains which brought relief to the people at large. The people of
Kerala will experience better rail connectivity and services in the times to come, as Indian Railways
is taking faster strides to a brighter future.
