Double shoulder tool joints welded for drill pipes
High torque double shoulder tool joint ТМК-TDS
Main advantages
Increased permissible torsional yield connection, exceeding hardness of the pipe body torsional yield Exception jamming tool joints in extreme torque moments Has higher fatigue strength than standard connections Combined with high-strength pipes allow to drill wells with a hard profile and high intensity of deviations Can significantly improve the hydraulic characteristics Interchangeable with API Standart connection Has internal flush joint diameter Great tolerance wear of outside diameter of tool joint
10
Reduction of the outside diameter of the tool joint, to increase efficiency, as well as increasing inside diameter of tool joint, to reduce pressure losses and maintain high operational characteristics.
The possibility of different configuration tool joints
11
Flush joint connection
Use tool joints with internal flush joint hole provides the following benefits: Smoother flow of washing fluid Reduction of turbulence Excludes the possibility of accumulation of
solid particles of mud inside of tool joint Increases the range used the measuring
instrument on the bottom of a well, to determine the direction of its trajectory.
12
13
High torque double shoulder tool joint TMK EXD
Use TMK EXD tool joints suitable for pipes if high
strength groups for optimal use of the capabilities of the
drill pipe.
The design of TMK EXD allow you to apply greater internal hole while maintaining outside diameter and
torsional strength of tool joints.
Double shoulder tool joint with a modified thread. Depression
thread has the shape to increase the fatigue strength. • Stabbing flank increased angle
• Increased thread pitch
• A modified form of the top profile is compared with
standard design significantly reduces wear thread when
you enter engages pin with box when assembling the drill string and then screwing.
Bench testing of connection
14
The complex of tests: Definition of resistance of the tool-joints wear of the main and additional shoulder when loading the
maximum torque Definition of resistance of the tool-joints under combined loading torque and tensile yield. Definition of resistance thread of tool-joint to wear.
During the test showed: Maximum torque above a maximum point standard connection Moment unscrewing of tool-joint, on the average on 20% below moment, which tool-joint was
screwing. Design of tool-joints with additional internal shoulder stronger than the pipe body* Design of tool-joints with additional internal shoulder during the tests withstood**:
ТМК TDS - 250 cycles of assembly-disassembly ТМК EXD - 1200 cycles of assembly-disassembly
* Depending on the combination of tool-joint and the pipe body
**wear thread was within the allowable values

Drill pipes with internal coating
reduction of hydraulic loss in drilling protection from corrosive-abrasive wear of drilling pipes protection of drill pipes from corrosion racking reduction of the likelihood of fatigue failures of drill pipes drill wells with high downhole pressure and high temperature allows a wide range of drilling fluids with various values of pH
The main advantages of drill pipes with a coatings
20
perfectly smooth surface of the internal side
Internal protective coatings allowed to put on drill pipes, used, after the flaw detection and repair, according to the approved technology.
Internal protective coatings allowed to put on drill pipes with different types of tool joints, including BT with двухупорными locks.
ALL OF THIS INDICATES, THAT COATINGS ARE BECOMING INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT TO CONTROL THE COST OF DRILLING AND PRODUCTION.
21
Increase of service life of drill pipes by minimizing corrosion.
As most of the drilling mud is preparing water-based, they can cause very strong point corrosion. Corrosion can exacerbate the tension arising in drill pipes during drilling that will lead to rapid growth of fatigue cracks and eventually to the destruction of pipes.
Coatings provide a smooth, inert, stable friction surface, which leads to the fact that paraffin and most of the carbonate and sulphate deposition washed off the surface of the pipe before they can harden and stick to the surface.
Application of internal coatings on tubular products can reduce the friction losses up to 50% for the transportation of liquids, thus resulting in the increase of profits of the company and allows to compensate the expenses for covering.
Pipes without internal coating
Corrosion
Deposits on the internal wall of the pipe
HARD BANDING (hard alloyed surfacing tool joints)
Considering that modern high-strength drill pipes are of high value, losses from the rejection constitute a huge part.
Assessing the statistical data we can conclude that more than 60% if pipes are rejected due to wear of the outside diameter of the tool joint and other parameters of pipes according to the acceptable standards.
THUS, ONE OF THE PRIORITY DIRECTIONS IN THE PRODUCTION OF DRILL PIPES BECAME CONSOLIDATING SURFACING WEAR-RESISTANT MATERIALS OF THE OUTSIDE SURFACE OF TOOL-JOINTS.
22
Extreme conditions of operation of drill pipes lead to their destruction. The main causes of the destruction of drill pipes are cracks formed in conditions of high tension and wear of the surface under the influence of corrosion and abrasive wear.
