A resolution of <25µm (2D) and 30lp/mm (CT) could be demonstrated. Due to the steep target angle of 20°, the difference of the resolution in the entire radiation field is only one duplex wire. The wide voltage range with constant FS size and target power also enables the imaging of components made of lightweight materials. The tests at different OEM's showed that such a MesoFocus tube concept is suitable for applications previously performed with open MicroFocus tubes. Thus, the advantages of a closed, robust metal ceramic X-Ray tube are combined with the high resolution of an open MicroFocus tube. Furthermore, that tube concept is scalable up to 600kV. New MesoFocus NDT X-Ray tube concept

Abstract

A new tube concept with a variable, small focal spot is presented. The term MesoFocus

means that the BF size ranges between the conventional MiniFocus and the open

MicroFocus tubes.

The following features are achieved with a novel triode focusing concept:

- Adjustable focal spot size from 50 to 200mü (100 to 500mü) (ASTM E 1165-12)

- Constant tube power from 25% of the max. kV

- Homogeneous resolution in the entire radiation field, due to a 20° target angle

As functional models, unipolar tubes with a maximum voltage of 225kV were built. A
