New Ohio law creates options for students to earn a diploma

Ohio provides the most flexibility for student to succeed and graduate.

Requirements for all students

Complete 21.5 course credits

Take seven required state tests

Earn diploma through one of three options

Ohio’s New College Credit Plus

College Credit Plus Who?

Students in the 7th – 12th grades. What is it?

Eligible students can take a course and earn high school and college credit at the same time.

Where? At MHS or at a college campus.

Why? Prepare students to be college and career ready.

How? Apply to college and let your school counselor know by April 1.

College Credit Plus • Dual enrollment and Post Secondary Education Options (PSEO) are now under one umbrella.

• Expands opportunity to allow students in grades 7-12 to earn college credit at no cost to the student or family.

• CCP courses are offered at MHS and a student may choose to take courses at a college or university.

• A typical pathway to earn 15 semester hours or 30 semester hours is a sample of what a student might choose to do.

• A total of 30 semester hours per school year with a total of 120 hours combined in middle school and high school.

Current College Credit Plus Options

Students may also earn college credit by attending a local college or university.

• Students must meet entrance requirements • Students interested in attending a local college or university must meet with their counselor.

The following classes are offered as college credit at MHS through Cincinnati State or UC: 1.  CP Pre Calculus 2.  Honors Accounting 3.  Personal Finance 4.  Sports Marketing

College Credit Plus • College credit plus courses will be weighted the same as any AP high school course in the same subject area.

• College credits are “free” to the student and are being paid for by state and local tax funds.

• A student who fails a college credit plus course assumes the same consequences as failing a high school course and will be responsible to reimburse the school district for the cost of the course.

College Credit Plus Fundamental Conditions of CCP: 1.  The student MUST be college-ready and be

admitted to the college or university meeting their eligibility requirements.

2.  Students earn TRANSCRIPTED high school and college credit upon successful completion of courses.

3.  Meet with your school counselor and complete the Intent to Participate form by April 1 for any CCP coursework NOT being offered at MHS.

College Credit Plus Things to Consider: 1.  Is CCP right for my child?

2.  Is my student college-ready both academically and socially to handle college material?

3.  Are you preparing to go to a state college or university in Ohio or outside the state?

4.  Does my student’s HS schedule reflect a strong background and mix of courses (both AP & CCP)?

Important Steps

  March 10, 2015 - Attend the College Credit Plus College Information Fair at Princeton Professional Development Center – 3900 Cottingham Dr.

  April 1, 2015 - Sign and turn into your school counselor the Intent to Participate form – if you plan on taking a CCP Course OTHER than the 4 offered at MHS.
