A JET STREAM OF FRESH AIR.

Look at the sleek sweep of that

waistline: classic GTI. But the

Cabriolet sports its own side-sill

extensions and a new rear diffuser.

The windscreen is also more raked.

Magnificent.

And as beautiful with the top up as it

is down. Machine-polished wheels

make your GTI Cabriolet that much

more different. As though it needs it.

At the business end is the classic GTI

honeycomb radiator with red pinstripes

and vertically-arranged fog lights.

At the rear, twin-chrome tailpipes left

and right, dark red LED rear lights,

Inside it’s understated, but the traditional

red stitching tells you you’re driving

something special. There’s heritage in

the brushed-steel pedals and polished

gear shift. The decorative inlays of

PRIME NUMBERS.

0 to 100 in 7.3 seconds, and a top

speed of 235km/h. Soft-top or not,

this is pure GTI. We’re talking torque

of 280Nm straight through from 1700

to 5200rpm. The 2-litre turbo engine

takes power to the front wheels through

a 6-speed DSG gearbox that preselects

the next gear while you’re driving.

As surprising as the GTI Cabriolet, is its

fuel consumption: 7.7 litres per 100km,

with CO2 emissions of just 180g/km.


SAFETY FIRST.

The GTI Cabriolet is fast. In everything. The

roll-over bar deploys in fractions of a second.

Airbags for front, side, head, thorax and

the driver’s knees wrap you securely. The

reinforced windscreen surround and extensive

structural modifications to under body, sides

and bulkheads create a robust safety cage.

The GTI is also perceptive. Its Electronic

Stability Programme (ESP) system incorporates

two extra technologies. Electronic Differential

Locks (EDL) get the power to the wheels smoothly,

but it’s the Transverse Differential Lock (XDS)

that keeps them nailed to the road. Optimal

stability, even at full acceleration out of bends.
