New Enhancements in RM Bridge CONNECT Edition (CE)v.11 – January 2019

RM Bridge CE V11 Releases:1) V11.01.00.01 (November 2017), 2) V11.02.00.14 (March 2018), 3) V11.03.00.16 (July 2018), 4) V11.04.00.17 (December 2018)

Technology Improvements

New Graphical Engine in RM Modeler Graphical engine in RM Bridge Modeler for 3D view and assemblies have been upgraded for enhanced viewing of structural elements, zoom, rotate etc. The new graphical engine is much faster in rendering big models.

CONNECT Licensing With CONNECT Licensing, product activation is managed by user sign in through the CONNECT Client, which is installed on each machine that uses Bentley Application. This offers a more secure and manageable system as it offers usage alerts, notifying companies users when they are about to reach a certain usage limit set by administrator. If an overage situation is detected, the user will be given an alert and have the option to quit the application before a license is used or to acknowledge that a term license will be generated and proceed with opening the product.

Speed

RM 64-bit A new 64-bit version of the software is now available. This version allows for the execution of very large models and significant increase in the speed of analysis as well.

Parallel Sparse Solver The new solver which improve the calculation speed for dynamic analysis has been added. User can choose between the old skyline solver or the new intel parallel solver for faster calculations on repetitive analysis projects like time history, live load analysis, AddCon, etc.

This new solver can be found under Dynamic/Iterations under Eqn. Solver.

Advanced Analysis

FEM Enhancements FEM capabilities in composite and Hybrid cross-sections are enhanced. Results for full composite FEM and composite hybrid FEM models are now available.

An option to report the Shell forces, Stresses, Displacements, and Nodal forces for Shells under the Envelopes-FE is now available.

An option to graphically present area and line integrals forces, displacements, stresses under results option in main window is now available.

A new option for listing the distributed area loads on FEM bodies is now available. This option can be enabled in Recalculation Analyzer under Extended Setting.

3

Load Dependent Ritz Vector Analysis The load dependent Ritz vector analysis provides faster extraction of more relevant modes for response spectra and modal superposition analysis. This new option can be enabled in Recalculation Analyzer under Dynamic/Iterations.

Superposition Load Case TrackingA new action “TrackSup” for tracking a certain superposition file is now available. This action generates one list/excel output file with all various and original sources of load cases and/or superposition files that contribute to the final tracking result component as well as summation load cases results generated in the load management table.

New Bilinear Hysteretic Element for Seismic AnalysisBilinear Hysteretic isolator is used for dynamic time history analysis when Non- linear dampers option is selected under Recalc pad. Damper has linear stiffness in static calculation and dynamic properties for time history calculation. Bilinear Hysteretic element is active for all translations degrees of freedom.

New RM-Set (RHIST) for Time History AnalysisA new RM-Set named RHIST is now available in time history analysis for producing outputs in XLS/XLSX formats and X-Y plots. Force, displacement, reactions, velocity, acceleration, and/or time can be plotted for elements/nodes.

4

RM Database Expanded to Store Bigger Variable Table InputSome big projects required to store more than 2 GBytes of variable tables. This limit has now been removed from the program. The program will generate additional db files (db-in-02-x) when the 2 GBytes limit is reached in blocks.

Apply Rotation Matrix to Hydrodynamic Element CalculationThe hydrodynamic spring elements only worked in the global direction until now. In this release, they are enhanced to consider the local direction of the spring element via transformation.

Enhancements in Asymmetric Cross- sectionsNew enhancement for asymmetric cross-sections have been added to the program. To correctly calculate the stresses for cross-sections with inclined principal axis, the program requires the rotation of the local element axis to the direction of principal axis. Users have new options to define loads using the initial reference axis system (YL’, ZL’) (before cross-section rotation occur).

5

Response spectra for South AfricaA new response spectrum for South Africa Standard (TMH7) have been added. User can access this response spectra from Extras Loading and Stages Response Spectra.

New Live Load Macro Per South African Standard (TMH7)A new live load macro per South African Standard (TMH7) is now available. It includes combinations for NA, NB, NC, and pedestrian loading. It can be found in Traffic Load Macros under Extras.

6

User Damping and Mode Selection for Dynamic Wind AnalysisNew inputs for user defined damping and mode selection have been added for Wind Analysis (Action Wind). This new input is optional and when provided is considered in the analysis as well.

Seismic workflow improvements for response spectrum analysisA new option for creating New Seismic loads directly from Response Spectrum Action (RespS) is now available. Seismic load parameters are consolidated in one dialog box and user can directly select response spectrum for different codes.

New option for adaptive sub- stepping for dynamic analysisA new option for defining sub-steps in time history analysis (Action Tint) is now enhanced to accommodate adaptive sub-stepping. The default sub-steps is 10. If user wishes to have a selective range of sub- stepping then they may enter the sub-stepping in the form of range: (start:end:step) e.g. format 10:20:1, which would mean that a given problem if fails at a certain time step to achieve equilibrium then it would be further sub- divided into 10 sub-steps and will go till 20 in the step of 1 until it finds equilibrium.

7

New “Refined” Option for Wind Calculation MethodA new “Refined” option for wind calculation have been included. This method uses more points for integration of power-spectra resulting in capturing frequencies with higher accuracy and improves the results. This method may slowdown the analysis so user needs to find a balance between accuracy and solution time while using these options.

New “Rigid End Post” Option for Element Buckling Check Per Euro CodeA new “Rigid End Post” option for element buckling check per Euro Code have been added. By default, this check is not performed.

Stress- Leading SuperpositionAn option to report the maximum and minimum Normal and Shear stresses under the superposition of loads is now available. These stresses at the specified Stress Points can be viewed.

8

Enhancements in GUI

Tendon Definition in ModelerA new option for creating Internal, Normal or Master Tendons geometry in Modeler have been added. User can define tendons based on bridge geometry and using station points. The new feature is available by double clicking on “Tendons” tree item inside Modeler.

User can now see all the pre-stressing tendons already defined in the upper view window in grey color and in highlighted blue the tendon that is being edited.

User can also simultaneously see the graphical view of force distributions resulting from the individual stressing actions after the tendon load have been added. User can store the diagram in a drawing or by creating a plot-file.

New Balanced Cantilever Wizard for Tendon Definition in Segmental BridgesNew cantilever Wizard for creating tendons in balance cantilever have been added in the previous release. This option can be found under Extras Pre-processors Cantilever Cantilever Wizard (New). The new tool offers graphical view of bridge and tendon points in cross-section with the possibility for selection tendon from catalog. All segments in structure and tendon points in cross- section are listed in the first row and first column of table, respectively. Piers are also presented in this table to help users with creating tendons. User can easily copy different tendons and paste with mirror possibility in the table
