New District Guide

Pacific Coast and Valleys District

Dear Pastor:

Welcome! The new Pacific Coast and Valleys District is a unique and wonderful grouping of churches. It will be exciting as we watch God bring us together.

Transitions, like this one, present us an opportunity. These are challenging times for most of us, and we have a number of hurdles we must get over to see that our new district becomes a workable, God-honoring one.

Speaking of hurdles, in the spring of my first year of high school I joined the track team. I had visions of being one of the sprinters but wasn’t among the fastest to qualify; so the coach assigned me to be a hurdler, among other things. I remember practicing diligently and, by the first meet, thought myself prepared.

Our meet was against Wilson High School. When the high-hurdle event was announced, I joined six other runners at the starting line. I was nervous. My heart was pounding so hard I thought I’d pass out … and then the starter’s pistol went off.

The seven of us seemed to arrive at the first set of hurdles simultaneously. As we went over, I noticed two of the runners had fallen. At the next hurdle, another runner fell and, by the last hurdle, the other three had fallen. Being a novice competitor, but a competitor nonetheless, I figured this was good thing. I would surely come in first. But on that day, I came in third. Yes, third! Two of the fallen runners had gotten up and had beaten me to the finish line.

It would not be until my last track meet of my senior year in college that I would win my first hurdle race. God has used that high school experience to teach me many lessons about opportunity and perseverance.

This district transition gives us opportunities. As runners in God’s race, let’s seize the opportunities, let’s let go of our setbacks, and let’s press toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called us . . .˝

Wide open! This simple, yet profound statement taken from Revelation 3:8, expresses the theme of Connection, our 2009 Foursquare convention. It also reflects our anticipation of God’s purposes for The Foursquare Church as we boldly follow Him into a new season of fruitful ministry worldwide.

The familial relationship in The Foursquare Church and the bond of trust we share have brought us to an exciting place in our church’s history. We are officially launching 14 new districts that are led by newly appointed supervisors who will lead our ministers and ministries into the Lord’s harvest.

As you read the information in this brochure relating to the launch of your new district, please do so with great care and intercession. Pray for your newly installed district supervisor and for the other district supervisors who will lead our ministers and ministries into the Lord’s harvest.

There is no finer hour to serve the Lord in the Foursquare family than today. As never before our collective commitment is to partner toward a common mission of reaching, resourcing and releasing leaders to God’s full potential. As we set our hearts to mobilize the next generation and equip emerging leaders for the work of the ministry, we know you sense the passion of God to do everything possible so these leaders mature into effective and successful ministers of the Gospel.

Our continued prayer is that the launch of your new district will bring about health and vitality to your region, your community and to your local assembly of believers.
