One student’s experience...After finding school was not providing an effective learning environment for him, Ben joined his school’s Work Ready program in year 11.

During this program, Ben successfully completed Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation through the College.

He found he really enjoyed this course, built up a range of practical and personal skills and learned a lot about himself and working with others.

After completing his course, he applied for an internship with an outdoor adventure company. Ben said that the activities he completed during Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation helped him answer interview question scenarios such as “tell us a time that you had to work in a team”, where he was able to use his abseiling experience in the course as an example.

Ben was successful in gaining his internship and has now achieved Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation. He still keeps in touch with the trainer of Outdoor Recreation, Brendon Harris.

What students say about this course...

“I have found the classes really helpful and the tutors are very professional.

I have been attending for two years and am now more confident at speaking and writing English.

These classes have helped me to undertake a Certificate in Aged Care where I hope to get employment.”

“The Community College delivers a Numeracy course that we call “Maths Games” for our participants.

Having a Literacy/Numeracy specialist gives opportunity to address the needs of each individual in this area.

I highly recommend the Community College to anyone as we have found them friendly, flexible and professional.”

Edward McColl –Transition To Work Bomaderry (Post School Option for year 12 leavers with a disability)

What students say about this course...

“Before I came to the College I could read very little and as a mature adult this made me feel very self conscious.

After just one year my reading has improved so that I am now able to do things like read the TV Guide and find names in my mobile phone.

These may be basic things for many people but they are big things for me.

It is never too late to start learning.”

All courses on this page are subsidised by the NSW Government for eligible students. See page 2 for details.
