New Burlington Church of Christ Sermon Series: The Book of James

James 4:1-12Living out Gods Wisdom RightlyBY Joshua Bennett5/6/2012New Burlington Church of ChristSermon Series: The Book of James1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Dont they come from your desires that battle within you? 2 You want something but dont get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.

James 4:1-12 (NIV 1994)3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. 4 You adulterous people, dont you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. James 4:1-12 (NIV 1994)5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely? 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

James 4:1-12 (NIV 1994) 7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

James 4:1-12 (NIV 1994)9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.James 4:1-12 (NIV 1994)11 Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But youwho are you to judge your neighbor?

James 4:1-12 (NIV 1994)1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Dont they come from your desires that battle within you?

Living out Gods Wisdom Rightly17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. (3:17 NIV 1994)

Living out Gods Wisdom Rightly13 When tempted, no one should say, God is tempting me. For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.Living out Gods Wisdom Rightly2 You want something but dont get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.

Living out Gods Wisdom Rightly6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind (James 1:6)

Living out Gods Wisdom Rightly3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. (1:5-6)

Living out Gods Wisdom Rightly5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. (James 1:5-6)

Living out Gods Wisdom Rightly7 That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. (1:7)
