Nebraska Locksmith Association/NE Chapter of ALOA Omaha, NE, April 22, 2017
The regular meeting of the Nebraska Locksmith Association/NE Chapter of ALOA was called to order by President Grady Turner. Present were Scott Hansen, Bruce Nemecek, Curtis DeVries, Kevin Hlavac, Sha-ron Gregory, Sheila DeRose, Dennis Gregory, Eugene Hansen, Rodney Coffman, Tony Delgardo, Grady Turner, Charles Ward, Shane Carroll, Lori Sarrazin, and Ted Jacques. President Grady Turner welcomed guests, Dave Theilen from IML, Scott Shankel, Justin Reeves, Tom Bennett, and Jon Ensley. Approval of Minutes The Minutes of the January 21, 2017 meeting were read by Secretary Sharon Gregory. A Motion to ap-prove the Minutes was made by Curt D, and seconded by Charlie W. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report Scott H made a Motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Dennis G. Motion carried. Old Business Gene Hansen reported on membership cards that he is having printed. Gene circulated some samples and asked for input from the membership. New Business
Upcoming Class topic: The class for July will be held at the Comfort Inn, York, Nebraska. Members were asked for suggestions for the training. Some topics suggested were “The Basics of CCTV” and “Maglocks.”
New Secretary: Sharon Gregory resigned her position as Secretary citing her 5 years of service and
the need to have more time for other commitments. She asked for volunteers to take over her du-ties. Sharon presented the duties of the Secretary, and noted that the most problems centered on obtaining door prizes for each meeting. Members suggested that the door prizes could be elimi-nated in future meetings. As an alternative, members could bring items from their shops for use as door prizes – something like a “white elephant” offering. After some discussion, Curt D. made a Motion that no more door prizes be solicited for the NLA, which was seconded by Gene Han-sen. The Motion passed unanimously. Sheila DeRose volunteered to serve as Secretary, with the caveat that she may not be able to attend all meetings because of the lengthy drive from Michigan.
Adjournment There being no further business to discuss, Gene Hansen made a Motion to adjourn, seconded by Scott Hansen. Motion carried. Respectfully Submitted, Sheila DeRose, Secretary
PRESIDENTS NOTES: May 26 was my last day of work at Nebraska Wesleyan. I’m finding there is no shortage of things to do. I’m nearly as busy as I was before retirement, doing things I rarely found time for. I’m able to schedule lock work during the day. The biggest change for me, is working outside, rather than in an air-conditioned office. We will have our annual ‘garage sale’ in July. Be sure to read page 5 in this newsletter. There are several big events in July, including ALOA17. Among other things, I’m working on updating the NLA web site, particularly the members list. It’s important to keep our membership information up-to-date. Membership benefits including discounted costs for classes, mailed copies of newsletters, email announcements to members, AD&D insurance and any other member benefits are suspended if annual dues are in arrears.
Meeting Agenda Proposed Meeting Dates for 2018: January 19, 20—Lincoln April 20, 21—Omaha July 20, 21—York or Grand Island or Kearney? (Checking for favorable group hotel rates) October 19, 20—Omaha
Proposed change in annual Dues: Historically, ALOA members have paid additional dues to NE Chapter of ALOA. The NE Chapter of ALOA and Nebraska Locksmiths Ass’n. are effectively merged into one entity. National ALOA mem-bers must pay dues to the national association. They also have continuing education requirements to qualify for or maintain certification. They do not receive any additional benefits. I don’t think it’s necessary or desirable to charge additional dues to National ALOA members. Classes for 2018: Membership retention. Grady
