John Maltby is recognised as one of
the countrys nest ceramic artists,
his gures and creatures holding a
wit and profundity that re ect the
human condition and are
inextricably linked to the English
landscape and experience.
My work continues to draw its
inspiration from the Englishness of
my experience. Although many of the
subjects re-appear, I place them both
in a traditional continuum, yet relevant
to my contemporary condition.
Peter Jackmans works interpretlandscapes and objects within the
landscape in a semi-abstract form.
His images portray a personal
reaction to a place, in addition to
elements of the actual scene. Peters
work is created by layers of drawing
and with graphite, pastels and chalk. These layers are cut through by
scratching, scraping and overdrawing
to create a complex surface.

Alex Dewart questions the role of representation in painting, taking
inspiration from Christian icon painting, replacing religious gures
with a broader set of contemporary icons as well as more general
historical gures. Her landscape work uses structures such as bridges
which have more symbolic values attached to them.
Ursula Leach makes paintings, prints and drawings in response to the
chalk landscape of Cranborne Chase. The work is, to some extent, about current agricultural practices, but rstly is about the formal
issues of image making. Colour is impor tant as an expression of mood
and atmosphere and as an indicator of new and different crops.
As climate change takes effect there are dramatic and beautiful
changes of colour in the elds.
