We are delighted to be welcoming Nemanja Radulović, one of the most brilliant and exciting violinists around today. Born in Serbia in 1985, he began playing the violin aged seven. At music school, the young boy was identified as having perfect pitch, and just two weeks later completed what was actually a three-year course. Despite the difficult condi-tions in the former Yugoslavia, the music prodigy was able to take part in European music competitions and continue his studies in Belgrade, Saarbrücken and ultimately Paris, where he worked with the likes of Dejan Mihailović, Joshua Epstein, Patrice Fontanarosa, Yehudi Menuhin and Salvatore Accardo. In 2015 Radulović won the Echo Klassik new-comer award. He has released eight albums, the last two with Deutsche Grammophon. In this “Journey east” programme, we can expect an exciting voyage through Eastern Europe as far as Russia with works by Dvořák, Bartók, Stravinsky, Shostakovich and Khachaturian. Taking direct inspiration from folklore – which even moved Frenchman Ravel to write a “virtuoso piece in the style of a Hungarian rhapsody”, this music is brim-ming with emotion and passion, which makes the quiet moments all the more moving.
