It’s getting close! The NDA National Championship is just around the corner, and we’re excited and honored that you are going to be a part of the action this year! This is the final information packet you will receive before your arrival in Orlando for Nationals. Please read all of the information carefully. This will help ensure that all participants, coaches and spectators are informed as to all aspects of the event.

Bring the information in this packet as well as the initial confirmation packet you received and a copy of the NDA Rule Book so that you can review any necessary procedures such as performance requirements and criteria, penalty assessments, etc. Most of the questions you may have can be answered in this information.

EVENT CHECK-IN/MUSIC DOWNLOADA representative from each team must check-in at the NDA Registration Table on Thursday, March 5th at the Universal Studios Group Gate (see map for exact location) from 12:00pm until 9:00pm or Friday, March 6th at the Hard Rock Live – registration will run from 9:00am until 10:00pm. If you did not mail your required forms in prior to the event, you MUST turn in all the required forms in order to compete.

Coaches will need to count and sign for all credentials at check-in, even if your forms were mailed prior to the competition. These credentials will allow you access into the Championship venue. NDA will not replace lost/stolen credentials. If you purchased park tickets you will pick those up at check-in also. If you need the tickets before check-in then please email Leslie Dyer at ldyer@varsity.com to set up a time for pick up. If you’d like your tickets mailed prior to the event an additional shipping charge will apply.

You will be able to download your music on Thursday at the group gate at Universal Studios from 12:00pm until 9:00pm or on Friday from 9:00am until 9:00pm in the John Lennon Room at the Hard Rock Live. If you haven’t already requested an appointment time, email your request to nda_music@yahoo.com.

TICKETSTickets will be GENERAL ADMISSION! The cost of admission is $20 per day or $55 for a weekend pass. Spectators may purchase their tickets at the Hard Rock Live ticket office the week of the competition or by calling the ticket office at 407.351.LIVE (a service fee will be charged for all phone orders). Tickets for all resident package coaches and spectators will be distributed to the coach at NDA Registration. Universal Theme Park tickets are not needed to gain entry into the Hard Rock Live or Universal CityWalk.

OFFICIAL CHAMPIONSHIP CREDENTIALSEach registered participant, coach and spectator will receive official Championship credentials or a competition ticket. The credentials will be picked up during check-in by the coach. These credentials MUST be worn to gain entrance in and out of the Championship Venue including practice areas. NDA will not replace lost/stolen credentials.

PERFORMANCE ORDERYou can download a tentative performance order on our website at nda.varsity.com. This performance order will be updated as changes are made and coaches will receive an updated version upon check-in on the day of the competition. We will not be printing copies of the performance order this year for spectators. Updated performance orders will be available at nda.varsity.com and on the MyVarsity App.

PERFORMANCE AREASDance teams will perform on a 39’ deep by 39’4” wide Harlequin dance floor. There will be 8 total strips on the floor. Each strip is 4’11” wide. Coaches will need to bring their music to the music table located in center house at the Hard Rock Live. The same floor will be used in the practice area as on the performance stage.

SQUAD ENTRANCESDue to the number of teams competing, we ask that all teams enter the floor in a timely fashion. Once your team name is called, please do not do any additional chants or team cheers. Penalties may be assessed should your team have an organized entrance. Staying on time will be crucial to the event. All teams must enter the competition floor from stage left. Thank you in advance for relaying this information to your squads.

DRESSING ROOMS AND PERSONAL BELONGINGSNDA will provide changing tents outside of the practice area. Changing rooms are also available at the Hard Rock Live. You must check in at the NDA Event Tent in order to get a changing room. NDA accepts no responsibility for lost or stolen items. We recommend that each team designate someone to keep an eye on its possessions. If you have a quick change after a routine, be sure to tell the NDA staff in the on deck area so they can direct you to a dressing area after your routine.

PRACTICE AREASEach team will have 21 minutes of practice time. Your practice time will be approximately 1 hour before your performance time. The practice area is located at a Universal Studio soundstage. From the practice area, you will move to the “On Deck” area to prepare for your routine. If you miss your practice time, NDA cannot guarantee another opportunity to practice in the designated area. You will be required to check-in with the NDA Official in charge of the practice area. Only team members and coaches may enter the practice area. Family members and spectators will not be admitted to the practice area. Coaches must have their Championship credentials to enter the practice area. NDA will provide sound systems for teams with music on CD and will have auxiliary cables for music on iPhones, iPads, etc.

NO TELEPHOTO/ZOOM LENSES ALLOWEDBecause we take the safety and security of our participants seriously, our policy is to protect your privacy and that of all participants. Cameras with telephoto or zoom lenses will not be allowed during performances by unauthorized personnel/officials at any NDA Championship.

VIDEOSWe will no longer be selling DVD’s of performances due to, among other things, lack of demand and changing technology. Parents may use their personal cameras in the venue. However, use of professional recording equipment is still prohibited.

SCORE SHEETS AND FLASH DRIVESOn preliminary competition day, coaches will be provided with a flash drive which will contain the preliminary video along with a verbal critique by one of our judges. This may be picked up, along with your score sheets, at the NDA Event Tent approximately 30 minutes after your team performs. If you do not have a computer to view the routine then check at the NDA Event Tent for instructions. After viewing the routine, if there are any problems with the video or verbal critique then let NDA Staff at the NDA Event Tent know as soon as possible so that we can try to get another one cut.

On Finals Day, NDA will not announce scores until the awards ceremony. Safety/deduction score sheets will be available at the NDA Event Information Booth within 30 minutes of your performance. You may pick up the rest of your score sheets after your awards ceremony finishes. Only one coach per team should come to the Event Information Booth to pick up and sign for their team’s score sheets. NDA assumes no responsibility for the score sheets after the Championship has ended. Rankings for all competitions will be mailed to the contact of each team within two weeks of the competition. Sample score sheets are located in the Safety Guidelines at NDA.varsity.com.

AWARDSAll finalists will be awarded a trophy. Participants must be in uniform/costume for the awards ceremony. No warm-ups please. Teams that do not make finals will receive an acrylic award. In addition, the following awards will be presented: • National Championship Awards – Jackets will be awarded to team members and up to two (2) registered coaches who

win their division. Those winning multiple categories will receive ONE jacket. National Champion teams will also receive a banner.

• Grand National Champion Banner – Will be presented to the team having the highest total of two (2) category scores during finals. To be eligible for the Grand National Champion, a team must win at least one National Champion title.

• Junior Grand National Champion Banner – Will be presented to the Elementary, Junior High/Middle School or Junior Varsity team having the highest total of two (2) category scores during finals. To be eligible for the Grand National Champion, a team must win at least one National Champion title.

• Best in Category Award – Will be presented to the team in each category with the highest total score during finals. • Sportsmanship Award – Will be presented to the team with the best display of Sportsmanship throughout the weekend.

Performer, coach and fan behavior are all considered in selecting this award.• Innovative Choreography – May be presented to the team in each category with the most innovative choreography as

determined by our judges.• Superior Showmanship – May be presented to the team in each category with the best showmanship as determined by

our judges. • Technical Excellence Award – May be presented to the team in each category with the best overall technique as

determined by our judges.• NDA Unleashed Routine – May be presented to the team in each category with a unique and entertaining routine as

determined by our judges.

SECURITYAll participants, coaches and spectators are subject to random checks prior to entering the Championship venue. Please inform your spectators to refrain from bringing any unnecessary bags, cases, etc. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

HOSPITALITY ROOMA Hospitality Room will be offered for all registered Coaches. It is located in the Lennon Room at the Hard Rock Live. This is a great place for you to get away from the competition to relax and collect your thoughts, refreshments will be provided. The Hospitality Room will be select hours during the competition. Only registered Coaches with proper credentials will be allowed in this room. Participants, spectators and all other individuals without official coaches credentials are not allowed in this room.

COACHES MEETINGNDA will hold one group coaches meeting in the Hard Rock Live on Friday, March 7th at the Hard Rock Live from 10:00am to 11:00am. We will have an overview of the weekend and answer any questions that you may have. We highly recommend that you send at least one coach to this meeting. Refreshments will be provided afterwards in the John Lennon Room. If you cannot make this meeting you can get the information in the John Lennon Room at the Hard Rock Live throughout the remainder of the day.

NEW COACHESThank you for choosing NDA! We’re committed to making this trip as easy and stress free as possible so that you can focus on your team. If you have any questions then please email us and we’ll get back to you quickly. After the coaches meeting we will have a walk through so you’re familiar with the flow of the competition. If you can’t make the coaches meeting, be sure to stop by the Lennon Room so that we can get you the information that you need (not to mention there are some awesome snacks available in the room all weekend along with a live feed of the competition).

UNIVERSAL PARK TICKETSIn order to get Universal park tickets at the discounted rate tickets must be preordered. An order form is included. On site, the prices will increase by $5 per ticket.

VARSITY SPIRIT SHOPThe Varsity Shop will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is located in front of the Hard Rock Live. Championship apparel will be available for purchase.

PERFORMER GIFTSPerformers and coaches will be receiving a trading pin as their gift. Varsity has a pin trading program where anyone can trade Varsity pins for pins on event staff lanyards. Be sure to have your performers look for staff with lanyards at select locations throughout the weekend.

CHAMPIONS CLUBThis year, NDA will be escorting National Champions from the jacket area located back stage to the balcony of the Hard Rock Live (weather permitting). We will have National Champion backdrops available where parents and coaches can take pictures of their National Champion teams. A limited supply of National Champion apparel will be available for purchase in this area. Please pass this information on to your spectators. They will have staff by the event tent that will direct the spectators to the balcony. If you have a practice time, for another category and don’t plan on getting jackets immediately following your awards ceremony then please relay this information to your parents.

VARSITY TV COVERAGEVarsity TV will provide coverage of all routines from Friday through Sunday.

SPORTSMANSHIPNot only is sportsmanship encouraged at NDA, it’s expected. All of the dancers and coaches have put in countless hours, sweat and tears to reach this stage. Before arriving, please go over your expectations for performers and spectators while at the event. Respecting other teams, not only makes for a better competition, but hopefully teaches each dancer that, win or lose, the work is worth it.
