Brief Background Information
NCSSM’s Durham Campus is housed in the former Watts Hospital, portions of which date back more than a century and much of which is nearly 75 years old. Durham County decommissioned the property in the 1970’s and donated it to the State of North Carolina to open NCSSM in 1980. The historic property came to us in relatively good condition but in need of upkeep and improvement.
