Gerad Johnson leads strategy, marketing and sales for

Apogee’s US, Mid-Atlantic Market. Based on his experi-

ence, Gerad is responsible for developing, coordinating

and implementing Apogee initiatives. He also works

closely with university administrators to ensure colleges

and universities meet the growing demands of tomor-

row’s student.

Prior to joining Apogee, Gerad held positions at Black-

board in Washington, D.C, and SAS in Cary, N.C. While

at these organizations, his focus was on helping educa-

tional and financial institutions attract new clients and re-

tain existing clients.

Gerad holds an M.B.A from Pfeiffer University and a B.S. in Marketing from The University of North Carolina at

Wilmington where he also previously served as a Board

Come Meet Branan Woodham

Branan has been serving the Housing profession as a sales

representative for Southwest Contract since 2000. Prior

to his role in sales, he served the housing and residence

life field for 26 years in various positions including 10

years as Director of Housing and Residence Life at the

University of North Florida where he became acquainted

with SWC as he evaluated furnishings for his facilities.

Branan earned his PhD at the University of Florida in

1991 shortly after assuming his role at UNF. Branan has

also served as a SEAHO conference host and treasur-

er. In the last few years, he has also added the role of

grandfather to Abigail and Gavin.

Glenn Thompson is the Director of Business Develop-

ment for W. M. Jordan Company. He is responsible for

leading the Business Development and Marketing team

for W. M. Jordan Company’s four offices, located in

Newport News, Richmond, and Roanoke, Virginia and

Wilmington, North Carolina. Glenn joined the firm in

1995 and worked as a Project Engineer and Project Man-

ager until becoming a Business Development Manager in

2007.

Glenn is a 1992 graduate of Virginia Military Institute

with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He

serves as the President of the Virginia Associated Gen-

eral Contractors and is a founding member and Chair-

man of the ACE Mentor Program of Central Virginia, a

nationwide program designed to introduce high school

students to the wide range of career opportunities open

to young people in architecture, construction, engineer-

Scott is the director of Lord, Aeck & Sargent’s North Carolina office and leads projects

through all phases of design and construction. His focus is on programming and design-

ing buildings with complex constraints and his goal is always achieving resolution be-

tween the many critical stakeholders involved in college and university projects. Scott’s

residence hall experience includes projects for NCCU, Salem College, UNC Greensbo-

ro, Winston-Salem State University, and UNCC.

With more than two decades of experience, Lauren has devoted her career

to the design of college and university environments. She is adept at building

Mark Lewis loves traveling the world, music and

sports. He attended the University of Florida and

fell in love with college and college towns. During

and after college he spent eighteen years in the

audiophile music business working with compa-

Years after its humble beginnings in a college dorm room ULC has grown

Jason Jones, AIA Bio

Mr. Jones is an Associate with Clark Nexsen and Architectural Department Head

in the firm’s Charlotte, NC office. Jason has 22 years of experience with the plan-

ning, programming and design of various facilities, with a particular focus on the

building needs of higher education clients. In his role with Clark Nexsen, which also

involves mentorship and project administration, Jason places great significance on

high quality design and focuses on producing the ideal project for each client. Jason

holds a Bachelor of Architecture from The University of North Carolina at Char-

lotte. He is a registered architect in North Carolina and three other states, and has

been involved in the design of projects in many others.

A leader in the field, Mr. Jones has presented on student housing design topics at

conferences for the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers (SEAHO) and

the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP).

John R. Morrison, Vice President of Business Development

John brings over 15 years of experience in the construction industry to the team and

leads with a focus on preconstruction services. He has held positions as Project Engi-

neer, Project Director, Senior Estimator, and currently Vice President of Business De-

velopment. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil and Transportation

Engineering and a Post Graduate Degree in Business Management from Napier Univer-sity in Scotland. He has extensive preconstruction expertise in estimating, planning,

scheduling, bid package preparation, and value engineering.

Amber S. Smith, Marketing Coordinator

Amber Smith is Marketing Coordinator at New Atlantic, with responsibility for mar-

keting programs, brand management, and corporate sponsorships. Her greatest

strengths are creativity, drive, and leadership. Amber wears a multitude of different

hats; awarding winning proposals preparation, presentations, social media manage-

ment, and event coordination. She has over 14 years in the construction industry and

In 1893 Edsko Hekman ventured from the Netherlands to

Grand Rapids, Michigan hoping to find his life’s work as a fur-

niture maker. The Panic of 1893 would lead him in a new di-

rection, returning him to his first profession as a baker. Edsko

eventually went on to found the Hekman Biscuit Company,

which was later to become the Keebler Company. Edsko’s

three sons John, Jelle and Henry would fulfill their father’s

dream and open the doors of the Hekman Furniture Compa-

ny in 1922.

In 1983 Hekman was purchased by the Howard Miller Clock

Company of Zeeland, Michigan. In 1993, Hekman acquired

Woodmark Furniture, a North Carolina upholstery company

whose discriminating standards were a perfect match to Hek-

Natalie Love, Vice President of WellBeing North Caro-

lina, is focused on providing exemplary service that rais-

es the level of hygiene in facilities. She is primarily fo-

cused on colleges and universities across the state. By

assessing needs on an individual basis, and providing

Wayne Smith – Owner and President of Standards For Living since 2008. Wayne was the Sr. Account

Manager with the largest college and university laundry service provider in the country until he retired from

the commercial laundry business in early 2014. Wayne has a long history of involvement with ACUHO-I,

SEAHO, NACAS, & NACAS-South, and he has attended 26 of the last 28 NCHO Conferences.

Jamie Mason Smith – Logistic Manager of Standards For Living since 2008. While attending college, Jamie

Mason served in the U. S. Marines Reserves. He oversees the delivery and pick up of our combination appli-

ances to college campuses and has played a major role in the growth of the company. This is his first time

attending an NCHO Conference.

Kerry Withers is a Contract Specialist in the Triad calling on End Users, Architects, Design-

ers and Dealers. She is a NC State Graduate and has been with Shaw for 18 years. She lives in

Clemmons, NC with her husband, Ryan and three children, Alaina (13), Reid (11) and Presley

(3).

Darrell Swilling is a a Regional Vice President for Shaw Contract Group covering NC, SC

and TN. He is a Georgia a Tech graduate and has worked for Shaw for 23 years. He resides in

Charlotte, NC with his wife, Roberlyn and three children, Travis (19), Brett (15) and Ryan (11).

Terri Gray, National Higher Education Sales Manager for CORT

Joining CORT in the fall of 2012, Terri Gray has almost 20 years of experi-

ence in the Higher Education Market both on the corporate partner side as

well as working on a University campus, working for The Foundation

(auxiliary services) and Housing Services at Cal Poly Pomona. She has 13

years of marketing and development providing campus-wide solutions to colleges and universities.

Terri has been very involved in ACUHO-I since 1996, when she first began

her College Student Affairs work in campus housing. Still very involved, she

is currently Chair-Elect of the Corporate Committee and outgoing Chair of

the Annual Giving Committee for the ACUHO-I Foundation. She has a Mas-

ters of Education in College Student Affairs, and also holds several awards

and received several recognitions including Outstanding Young Women of

America.

Jason Champion, Higher Education Account Rep for CORT

Graduating from Virginia Tech in 2009, Jason started his career in Property

Management where he worked with Greystar in the Raleigh area for almost

5 years. In March of 2014, Jason joined CORT as a Higher Education Ac-

count Rep.

Jason works with Colleges across North Carolina in an effort to learn more

about how each school assists their students in getting acclimated with their

new surroundings. Being new to the industry, he looks forward to learning

more from those who have great experience within Higher Education.
