NOTE: William is mentioned in the 1842 Arbury Poor records as having received a sheet or blanket on therecommendation of Miss Evans. His parish is Chilvers Coton, residence Griff. The records state that he has sevenchildren, five of whom are working – two at the mill, two as colliers (Edward and William in 1851 census are colliers)and one as a weaver (Joseph in 1851). One daughter who is missing here is Sarah, born about 1827, whoseexistence is known from the 1881 census. Sarah White married William Hill 4 Sept 1854 in St. John, Coventry. In the1851 census there is a granddaughter, Leah, living with them. The IGI gives the mother of Leah as Leah White, but nobirth of the mother, Leah. The 1881 census gives Martha as being born in Griff and Sarah in Collycroft. SeeVirgins End, 1851 census.

NOTE: The records of the Arbury Poor show that in 1842 George White, a collier of Heath End, received free soupfrom January 4th till February 26th, with the exception of January 18th. The report says that his wife was ill and thatthere were three in the family. Three of the children must have been staying somewhere else, or the ‘three’ refers tothe number of children and only one was staying somewhere else. This is the same George who later became ascripture reader at Chilvers Coton church.
