NB First Nations’ Chiefs Approve as Premier Alward Joins 8 Other Provinces
Calling For A National Inquiry Into Missing And Murdered Aboriginal Women.
“We welcome the news that the Government of New Brunswick has joined eight other
provinces in calling for a national inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women” said
Madawaska First Nation Chief Joanna Bernard, the Assembly’s Wolastoqiyik co-chair.
“A national commission of inquiry is essential in the healing process for families impacted by
these disappearances and murders. A commission of this nature will dredge up some hard
truths for all Canadians to face together, but ultimately heal together as well.”
“We thank the Premier for committing New Brunswick’s support for this difficult, but vitally
important process for First Nations Peoples across Canada” concluded Chief Bernard.
