Admission Requirements:
A bachelor's degree (normally a 2.1 or first class degree) or an equivalentprofessional qualification from a recognized institution.
Applicants for MSc in Islamic Finance should have knowledge and familiarity inquantitative economics and finance.
Most importantly applicants applying for research degrees MUST submit aresearch proposal with their application, 500 words minimum.

ABOUT THE DURHAM ISLAMIC FINANCE PROGRAM (DIFP)Durham has been a centre for research in Islamic finance for over 25 years. DIFP isrun under the umbrella of the Institute for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at
Durham University. As the Institute is part of the University's School of Governmentand International Affairs this enables us to draw on the Schools disciplinary strengthsin governance and regulation that have particular relevance for Islamic finance.
DIFP offers postgraduate research degrees in Islamic banking, finance, managementand economics. Durham has produced many graduates, who are now working in theIslamic banking and financial sector, as well as contributing to the teaching of Islamiceconomics and finance all over the world. With the launch of the DIFP the universityis seeking to consolidate its position as the leading centre for postgraduate researchon Islamic economics and finance, as well as extend its activities into theprofessional realm.
DIFP is directed by Professor Rodney Wilson and Dr Mehmet Asutay. The DIFP was
further strengthened by the appointment of a new Professor in 2008, the SharjahChair, with the post holder Professor Habib Ahmed focusing on the implications ofShariah for commercial and financial contracts.
Announcements
The new MA in Islamic Finance and MSc in Islamic Finance are now takingapplications for the academic year 2011-2012, as part of the Durham Islamic FinanceProgramme (DIFP) located in the School of Government and International Affairs(SGIA). The application deadline is 31 May, 2011.
Being the major centre for Islamic banking and finance studies in the West, DIFP andSGIA provide a number of programmes and courses in Islamic economics, bankingand finance.
Both of these programmes will be jointly offered by SGIA and Durham BusinessSchool (DBS) by bringing together the expertise and reputation of two importantinstitutions in their field.
The contribution by DIFP through teaching and research over two decades is anindication that the MA/MSc in Islamic Finance will be yet another successful area ofthe programme, which will further contribute to the reputation of our programme.
