U.S. Navy Cmdr. Proposes to Busch Gardens Animal Trainer During Show

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (October 28, 2014) – Busch Gardens Williamsburg’s “More … Pet Shenanigans” cast and animal crew helped U.S. Navy Cmdr. Jeremy Thompson pull off a surprise wedding proposal in front of a theater packed with park guests this past weekend. Jeremy’s long-time girlfriend and the show’s lead animal trainer, Melissa Harris, received the shock of a lifetime at the conclusion of what she believed to be one of her final performances at the park. However, behind-the-scenes the show’s cast and crew, including a few of her animal co-stars was working to pull off a wildly exciting marriage proposal. For Melissa and the show’s audience, the performance ran as normal until Winnie, a rescued potbellied pig, revealed a

“Melissa, will you marry me?” banner. Jeremy emerged from the audience to pop the question and was joined by Koda, a black Labrador mix, who was carrying the ring. Koda is one of the show’s rescued animal stars. Following the heartfelt proposal, Melissa excitedly said “yes.” And if the day couldn’t get any sweeter, Melissa and Jeremy have decided to adopt Koda to be part of their family.
