Save the Dates!
FAMILY FUN DAYS!
We are delighted to say that we will be organising
three Family Fun Days throughout the year.
Monday 27th May
An Otter Experience
Daphne Neville will be here to share her passion
and knowledge for otters. She will be accompanied
by one of her furry friends for you to meet.
We will also be doing otter related art activities.
Saturday 20th July.
Walk with Hawks!
Come along for arts and crafts
based around birds of prey.
Walk with Hawks will also be here
and will bring some of their birds– hawks, falcons, owls - for you
to meet and learn about.
Friday 30th August.
Discovery Day!
Come along for an educational and fun day
with Cheltenham Science Group, who will
be demonstrating different science experi-
ments.
Summer Holidays.
Are you up for the challenge?
We will start the holidays with some fun challenges for you to
complete.
Wednesday 24th July
Boat Challenge Using only natural materials, found in our garden, we will
build a boat. Will your boat float? Will it be strong
enough to hold weight? Will it withstand waves?
Thursday 25th July
Egg Challenge. Birds are very clever and can make a nest to keep
their eggs safe. Unfortunately some nests fall out of
the tree and the eggs smash. We are going to think
about ways we can protect an egg from smashing
when dropped at a height.
Friday 26th July
Monet’s Bridge Challenge To finish the challenges we will be building a bridge over
Monet’s Lilly Pad Pond.
Will your bridge be strong enough to stay up? To support
weight?
Summer Holidays.
Masks are an easy, fun activity to do. We will look at making
different types of masks, using various materials and tech-
niques.
Tuesday 30th July
Bird Mask. To start the week we will make a bird mask and deco-
rate it using feathers.
Wednesday 31st July
African Inspired Mask. These colourful masks are inspired by African style masks. We
will look at how to make the mask symmetrical and the effects
that using different colours will have on the overall appearance.
Thursday 1st August
Animal Mask Choose from a selection of animal masks to make,
using card for the base and then materials to add
texture.
Friday 2nd August
Natural Bark Mask. Using only natural materials, found in our garden, we will design
a tribal style mask.
Summer Holidays.
Tuesday 6th August
Inspired by Michaelangelo. Michaelangelo spent years painting the Famous
Sistine Chapel and most of the painting he did lying
on his back.
We will be inspired by Michaelangelo and will paint a picture while lying on
our backs.
Wednesday 7th August
No Hands Needed! Not everyone is able to use their hands to paint, and the
paintings they create are amazing. We will be attempting to
paint without using our hands.—using our feet or mouths
instead. Let’s see what masterpieces we can create.
Thursday 8th August
Foil Art. Using sharpies to colour on foil creates these stun-
ning metallic pictures.
Friday 9th August
Mixed Media Animals. Animals come in all shapes and sizes and have different
textures, patterns, colours etc. We will make mixed media
animals and create texture using different materials.
Art with a difference. To start the week we will look at ways
artists have had to adapt in order to paint.
We will then finish by using different materials to create differ-
ent effects.
Tuesday 13th August
Plastic Flowers. We will be looking at how to turn a plastic bottle
into a flower. We will create hanging and standing
flowers.
Wednesday 14th August
Magazine Bowl. Magazines are fun to read and when finished we can use them
to create useful things like bowls.
Thursday 15th August
Hot off the press! Newspapers are not just for reading and can
be used for more than papier mache. We will
be creating different things from flowers to
pencil pots.
Friday 16th August
Ocean Collage. Earlier this week we upcycled the bottle, now we will be using
lids to create an ocean collage. We will each create an individual
piece and add them together to make a community picture.
We can all do our bit for the environment by recycling our waste or
up cycling things so that we don’t produce as much waste. In this
week we will use our artistic talents to up cycle different materials.
Summer Holidays.
Summer Holidays.
The Artist in Residence this week is Liz Brooke-Ward, who is a tex-
tile artist and creates amazing pieces using fabrics.
This weeks activities are inspired by this and we will be using different
fabrics to create our own textile art.
Tuesday 20th August
Flower Batik. Starting with a favourite.
Using hot wax to create the outline and fabric paints to
colour the picture we will make stunning flower pictures.
Wednesday 21st August
Fabric Bowl. We will be making a papier mache bowl, but instead of
using newspaper, we will use pieces of fabric, making your
bowl instantly attractive and colourful.
Thursday 22nd August
Felt Flowers. Flowers instantly brighten a room. Using pieces of felt we
will make these beautiful flowers which will last longer than
living flowers. Maybe a gift for a loved one?
Friday 23rd August
Wet Felting. You will be introduced to the medium and how the
felting process works. You will then create your own
beautifully tactile felt picture to understand and
explore the process fully.
Summer Holidays.
Mother Nature is a beautiful thing and has inspired the work of many
artists.
We will be using natural resources as a base for our activities.
Tuesday 27th August
Feather Mobile. Feathers come in all shapes, sizes and colours. We will
be using feathers to make these effective mobiles.
Wednesday 28th August
Rock Art. Rock art has been around for years. We will look at different
ways we can use rocks to create art—painting them, using them
in pictures, collaging with them. Simple yet effective!
Thursday 29th August
Patterns in Nature. Wherever you look in nature you will find patterns—
spots, stripes, spirals etc. Using different materials we
will try to recreate some of these patterns.
Friday 30th August
Family Fun Day—Discovery sessions. No need to pre-book!
Come along for a day full of discovery and cool experi-
ments and demonstrations.
