ome of the most successfulcollaborations are not madeby exploiting currentopportunities but as a result ofthe slow evolution of arelationship and the

germination of a winning concept. Fendi firstsupported Design Miami back in 2008; a setof talks by some of the most notable furniture

designers of the time; Arik Levy, RossLovegrove, Paul Cocksedge and crucially,Fernando and Humberto Campana. TheBrazilian brothers who have literally reachedstellar status in the industry are nowubiquitous, but their raw style and progressiveapproach remains a constant, even morerelevant today than they ever were a productof a society re-evaluating the meaning of theword lifestyle.

At the heart of this is luxury; and itschanging parameters. No longer are weconsumed by the desire to own one of themany gold plated, diamond encrusted, logo-emblazoned hot new things just launched inthe market. To really have standout, today youneed to be the provident purchaser of theunique piece one that demonstrates not onlyyour purchasing power but your intellectualprowess. Here is where design comes in. Thetrue designer can use their ideas torevolutionise the way we see an object orbrand, to create something groundbreaking,genre defying, and so utterly covetable asmuch for its aesthetic as its future value, thatwe simply have to have it, no matter the cost.

This is design that makes a statement, notonly about the possibilities of the future, butalso of society itself uncovering harbouredfears and longings. It showcases the innovationof the designer and the established skill of the

brand. And in this, the collaboration betweenItalian fashion house Fendi, and the brothersCampana is outstanding.

The pieces themselves are bold; they aresignature Campana after all, taking Fendiskidassia fur out of context and applied,through the tradition and techniques of Fendiworkshops, in exciting new forms; a cabinet, athrone-armchair, chair and a suspended lamp.They are the result of a full month ofdevelopment; Fernando and Humbertos dailyvisits to Fendis Roman atelier, keening yearsof learning from their craftsmen, andexperimenting with materials to create theseotherworldly bestial beings.
