INTRODUCTION:

The world today is vastly different from what it was before. Since the turn of the new millennium, the issue of the environment has suddenly evolved into a widespread issue which is greatly discussed throughout the world.

“No longer are humans living in a world where the

environment is serene or stable but much rather

becoming unrecognizable and diminishing before our eyes. “

INTRODUCTION:

The plants, trees and flowers are life forms which God has created for us to enjoy its beauty but it is now solely up to us. We are abusing the things which are supposed to be taking care of by us. Everyone is affected and everyone is responsible. It is an issue that cannot be ignored and action must be taken to preserve something that is unique to humanity. They help safeguard the environment by informing and educating communities in isolated areas the impacts of our actions on the environment and how we can help to protect it.

INTRODUCTION:

Perhaps one of the most successful ways to help prevent environmental damage is to discuss to others the issues relating to our environment. This way people can become informed and aware that there is only one environment and it is our duty to protect it. 

But we should also keep in mind that informing others is not just the SOLUTION for our Mother earth's problem. We all can help in our own very little way. REMEMBER:We are the StewardsOf God’s Creation.

THE BEST THING WE COULD DO TO HELP IS TO STAND UP AND MAKE A CHANGE.

NEED OF THE COMMUNITY

In our barangay, there are rules being implemented for cleanliness and sanitation. However, this past few weeks, I have seen that some canals are clogging. This is very dangerous since it may become the place for mosquitoes to live that will cause diseases specially Dengue. Based also from my observation, there were tall grasses along the roads which have to be cut.

My project aims to make our communitya better place and a healthier place to live.I want to educate our community to be aware of what’s happening around us.

Thus, I had come up with my GOALS:

GOAL

1. To be a part of the “Tulong-Tulong: Barangay Lubing Clean Up Activity” twice a month.

2. To encourage other teens to help in maintaining the cleanliness of our barangay.

3. To raise environmental awareness amongst our community and have a cleaner environment by helping each other.

4. To conduct a clean up and in this way, the citizens would know the importance of the environment and how they could contribute in making our community a cleaner and safer place to live.

BRIEF BACKGROUNDBarangay Lubing

Barangay Lubing

Barangay Lubing is one of the barangays of San Juan. The estimated distance is about 1.5 kms from the town proper.

Our barangay is headed by Brgy. Captain Arthuro P. Valdriz, the former Mayor of San Juan. He was the one implementing the projects together with his co- officials.

Barangay Lubing has one public school. LUBING ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

It has also its own Botica ng Barangay and a Chapel.

The barangay has also its Multi- Purpose Hall.

Barangay Lubing has its own rules and regulations regarding CLEANLINESS AND SANITATION in the community. The following are the activities and good practices being carried out in our barangay.

1. MEETINGS /BARANGAY ASSEMBLIES

During meetings, the Captain discusses the needs for improvement in the barangay, the plans and other projects. I, myself had been going to assemblies and it really helps a lot in educating the people in the community.

2. Health Education3. Beautification Project4. Backyard/School Gardening5. Danggayan6. Mental and Dental Missions7. Vaccination of Dogs8. Responsible Pet Ownership Program9. No to Drugs Program10. CLEAN UP DRIVES

These activities are being practiced by all of us in the community.

As a result, our barangay had won various plaques for being one of the CLEANEST AND GREENEST BARANGAY in La Union and had competed for Nationals too.

My project “The Change I want to See.. Starts with me” is not a new one, because I had just adopted the Cleaning Project of our Barangay. But in my case, My ultimate goal is to ENCOURAGE TEENAGERS to join in such environmental programs.

With the help of one another, we had come up with a great result. And up to now, we are still practicing CLEANLINESS in every part of our community.

Instead of just staying at home, with just their gadgets with them (Teens), Why don’t they Stand Up and Help in maintaining the cleanliness in the community with their own little ways?

This project may just be a small one. But for me.. This SMALL ONE CAN MAKE A BIG CHANGE ALREADY.

How did I came up with this project?

1. I ask my friends and my former elementary classmates to help me in my Clean Up Project.

2. I posted an Announcement at some parts of the barangay so that other concern citizens who are willing to help are all welcome.

3. I went to our Barangay Captain, but unfortunately he was not around that time so I just informed the Barangay Secretary  about the said clean up.

4.  Just the day after I went to the office of our Barangay Captain, his secretary texted me and informed me that on the same day of my clean up drive project will also be the General Cleaning of our barangay. We come up to a decision  of making my project on February 17, 2013 (first cleaning day) and we will be working together with the whole barangay all at once. The second Cleaning day happened last March 3, 2013

FEBRUARY 17, 2013

The “Tulong-Tulong: Barangay Lubing Clean Up Activity” was participated by some concern citizens of our barangay.

We focused our cleaning in Canals.

Cleaning is more fun in Barangay Lubing.

All the members of the community worked hand in hand in cleaning

the whole barangay.

NO AGE LIMIT. There were also elementary pupils who joined the activity with their little brooms and dustpans, they enjoyed the clean up drive.

ANOTHER AREA OF CONCERN ARE THE WEEDS AND GRASSES ALONG THE

STREET.

Barks of Trees were cut too.

The clean up started at 8:00 AM and ended at 11:30 AM. We have our free snacks after the cleaning. Barangay Captain Arturo Valdriz also distributed goods for the indigents who participated in the activity.

NOW I’M READY: It’s Cleaning Time with my

Friends.

Lets Do It – With Ate Trisha and Ate Lovely. (Louisians)

“THE CHANGE I WANT TO SEE.. STARTS WITH ME.”

Alongside with the General Cleaning in our Barangay, we also have the “Tapat ko, Linis ko. Aso ko, Tali ko.” which was implemented and done everyday.

And as a member of our barangay, I am assigned to clean our backyard everyday.

And in all that projects, every family is concern. One of this was the “BACKYARD GARDENING”. We are imposed to  plant  vegetables  along  our  houses  and  I  am  proud that we do also did it. Together with my little sister, we planted eggplant and squash in  our backyard.

RESULT OF THE PROJECT:During the first clean up, I have observed that only few teens had helped in cleaning. But on the second time, I can say that there is an improvement. My friends and elementary classmates joined me in the clean up activity.

The whole barangay was so clean and the canals are now in order. The grassses had been cut and in some parts, the canals had been cemented also.

AFTER THE CLEAN UP 

BEFORE AFTERCANALS had been CEMENTED for the BETTER.

CONCLUSION:Through our simple ways, we can already help a lot to

our Nature. In my project, I can say that no matter what happen.. Still, Our hands knows the best. We are the Hope of the Nation.

RECOMMENDATIONS:I am hoping that generations today will realize the worth of the environment., thus I want to suggest to our SK Council in our barangay to put up or make other related programs like in Proper Waste Disposal and Tree Planting Activities.
