The Secret Diary of Kitty Cask: Smuggler’s DaughterPhilip Ardagh and Jamie Littler

Kitty Cask is a smuggler’s daughter. In the Cornish coastal village of Minnock, Kitty and her family make their living as ‘free traders’ – secretly bringing contraband goods into the country while evading the corrupt redcoats who work for the King. Kitty isn’t supposed to be involved in any of her father’s schemes ... but she’s very good at creeping out at night, and before too long she is caught in the thick of the action – salvaging shipwrecks, staging prison breaks and staying one step ahead of the tyrannical excisemen!

Philip Ardagh is the Roald Dahl Funny Prize winning-author of The Grunts. He is probably best known for his Grubtown Tales, but he is author of over 100 books. He is a ‘regular irregular’ reviewer of children’s books for The Guardian and is currently developing a series for television.

Jamie Littler is an illustrator who graduated from the Arts Institute at Bournemouth in 2008, and has won a High Commendation in the Macmillan Children’s Book Prize. Jamie’s books include Hamish and the Worldstoppers, which was the bestselling children’s debut of 2015 and Wilf the Mighty Worrier, shortlisted for the Laugh Out Loud Book Awards.

Homes Through HistoryGoldie Hawk and Sarah Gibb

In this beautifully detailed, laser-cut book, children can travel back in time and explore homes from seven different eras: late Middle Ages, Tudor, Georgian, Victorian, 1920s, 1960s and present day. Peek through the windows, discover the rooms inside and spot the family members. Then, learn a bit more about the family, spot the pieces of furniture that appear in more than one house, and find out what people wore in each era – from kirtles and crinolines to flat caps and flapper dresses.

Goldie Hawk is a children’s book writer and editor based in London. She spent much of her childhood running wild on Wimbledon Common or with her nose in a book, and now spends her time researching and writing about all kinds of topics, from historical houses to the art of den-building.

Sarah Gibb has a BA in Graphic Design from Central St. Martins and an MA in Illustration from the University of Brighton. She has illustrated dozens of children’s books and book covers, including the famous Emily Windsnap and Tiara Club series and Sue Townsend’s back catalogue, national magazines, cards, packaging and advertising. Her clients include Harrods, Vogue, Elle, Penguin, Simon & Schuster, Orion, HarperCollins, Orchard and Crabtree & Evelyn.

Corfe Castle: If walls could talkAnna Groves and Tom Percival

Kings and queens, moats and murder holes, portcullises and privies, treachery and treason – all manner of medieval malarkey went on here. Then a siege and a demolition left the ruins you can explore today. Spanning a thousand years of history and crammed with puzzles and quizzes, this book has a lot to say!

Anna Groves grew up in the wilds of Leicestershire, building dens in hedges and bothering sticklebacks in streams. Anna has been editing and writing guidebooks for the National Trust for really quite a long time now, but when you get to spend your time nosing round lovely old houses, in the countryside and by the coast, why do anything else? When not ‘working’, she’s often found walking in the woods with her whippets, Iggy and Snoop.

Tom Percival is a writer, artist, video producer and musician. Tom writes and illustrates his own picture books, including Tobias and the Super Spooky Ghost Book and A Home for Mr Tipps (HarperCollins), Jack’s Amazing Shadow (Pavilion), and Ruby’s Worry and Perfectly Norman (both Bloomsbury).
