Term 2, Week 10 Tuesday, June 23, 2015.
From the Principal . . . . . . . . . . School Gates Last Wednesday we sent a note home detailing the reasons why we are required to lock the side school gates. So for security reasons, the side gates will be locked from 9:30am and will be re-opened at 3:00pm. The main front gate will remain open all day, so please enter through Adams Street during these hours. If you have any concerns regarding this issue, please contact the school. Parent-teacher interviews We will be holding our parent/teacher interviews in Week 2, beginning Monday 20
th July 2015. Student reports will
be handed out during this time, so please take the time to attend these interviews. Mrs Cassidy’s interviews will be held during Week 4 as she will be on Long Service Leave. Teachers will send information home in the very near future regarding this. If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to contact the school. NAIDOC Week NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. We encourage all Australians to participate in the celebrations and activities that take place across the nation during NAIDOC Week. As this celebration is during our school holidays, we will be holding our NAIDOC activity day on Wednesday 15
th
July 2015. Details will follow soon.
LNPSSA Yesterday we had approximately 50 students attend the LNPSSA Athletics Carnival at Leeton High School. There were many fine results across our team, with a range of achievements and personal bests. Once the official results are obtained, we will publish them in an upcoming newsletter. I have been told that all students were very
well behaved and competed to the best of their abilities. Congratulations to all our students on their results. Kindergarten Enrolments We are now taking enrolments for our Kindergarten class for 2016. Please come and get an enrolment form from the office. Also, if you know anyone with Kindergarten aged children, please encourage them to consider our school. Transition dates and times have been released. Cooking & Science with 6C & 6H
Some students in 6H and 6C have been involved in cooking
activities with Mrs Seymour. They have been shopping to buy
ingredients. They have been to the vegie garden to pick
vegetables and herbs. Then, they have taken over the staffroom
to cook! And can they cook! Over the last few weeks they have
made scrambled eggs, spaghetti bolognese (with lots of vegies)
and fried rice. They have certainly enjoyed the cooking but
they’ve enjoyed the eating even more…… so have some very lucky
staff members who were given a taste.
Students have also been involved in cooking and selling foods for
lunch and recess on Tuesdays, to help raise funds to assist with
the Year five and six excursion to Canberra in Term 3.
6H students had a science homework task where they had to go
on to a YouTube site called “Sick Science” and choose an
experiment to demonstrate to the rest of the class. Some of
these experiments were a great success. Some needed
adjustments. Some just failed. All were a learning experience

enjoyed by the students and staff. Noah Watson’s
experiment was particularly impressive. It demonstrated
changes from liquid to ‘solid’ states and chemical reactions.
Zara Hand’s experiment showed the effects of detergent on
fats by using fullcream milk, food dyes and detergent. We
also discovered that skim milk doesn’t contain much fat
(should it have any?) Ella and Riley’s experiment proved that
air exerts pressure and they invented a new sprinkler but it
is a little labour intensive. Bradley changed his first choice of
experiment when he realised he may have to take out a bank
loan to cover costs. Research can be very expensive. In the
absence of iron filings, Brad used shavings from key cutting
for his magnetism experiment and discovered that most keys
are alloys. Emma safely proved that fire eats oxygen and
creates a vacuum.

Future Leaders Program @ Borambola
We arrived at 2pm on Sunday the 14th June and had a little introduction about Borambola and the fire exits. We all
went there to learn about being a better leader, communication, teamwork and thinking outside the box.
The thing I liked the most was the rock climbing, free time and the food. We had to build ideas for our School Action
Plan which is Buddy Reading. We will be getting the class teachers reading data and then make a roster for classes we
will read with, it will take place in term 3.
Our activity for thinking outside the box was to design something to keep a budgie cool in Summer using the items
supplied. This was fun.
As well as doing all this we managed to see 3 possums and a fox at night.
On Tuesday before we came home we presented our power point presentation with our big idea. We received a
certificate and a badge that says “Future Leader”
