Background  •  NaMeX  joins  AMS-­‐IX  reseller  program  in  Nov,  2010  (2  years  ago!)  •  High  capacity  L2  link  between  Rome  and  Amsterdam  •  9  members  joined  in:  small  to  medium  sized  ISPs  •  ~  1.5  Gbps  exchanged  traffic

•  L2  link  is  a  crucial  aspect    •  Started  with  unprotected  service  •  First  year  with  frequent  problems  due  to  carrier  (too  

many  maintenances,  too  many  failures)  •  Turned  to  new  provider  in  2012  

•  Be]er  performance,  be]er  availability  and  resiliency  

•  Similar  costs  •  Confirmed  in  2013  

 •  AdministraBon  overhead  is  minimal  

•  NaMeX  acts  as  a  single  interface

Why  NaMeX  members  choose  to  connect  to  AMS-­‐IX    1.  Numbers:  access  to  largest  number  of  peers

way  they  send  and  receive  traffic  to  and  from  OTTs

Trends  and  perspecBves  

ACer  two  years  in  producEon,  NaMeX  and  its  members  are  fully  saEsfied  with  the  partnership    •  Several  members  upgraded  their  ports  capacity  due  to  an  

increase  in  the  exchanged  traffic    

•  New  and  prospecBve  members  show  interest  in  the  service    

•  Planning  a  “try  before  you  buy”  program  for  small  ISPs  (100M  ports)  

•  Expanding  the  offer  with  new  virtual  ports  (500M,  100M)    

•  EvaluaBng  a  protected  L2  service
