Sto AG‘s Mission statementThe basis of the company’s guiding principles

Maintaining the value of old and new buildings is a permanent problem for building owners, investors and users.

In its quest to solve this problem, Sto researches, develops, produces and markets product systems and services, with the aim of maintaining and improving the substance and functions of walls, ceilings and floors, and providing long-term protection from damage.

This functional area of work is accompanied by services relating to the aesthetic design of buildings in terms of colour and structure.

Sto wants to act as a pacemaker and play a leading role in helping to ensure that the world in which we live is designed in line with environmental requirements and our needs as human beings. We therefore collaborate with like-minded customers and partners.

Our declared aim is to comply with our company’s guiding principles in our dealings with all those involved in the building sector. Sto’s mission statement can be summed up in three words: Building with conscience.

Introduction

Why thermal insulation?

Reserves of fuel materials for heating (e.g. fuel oil, gas, coal)

are not unlimited and not substitutionable

Reduction of toxic emissions e.g. CO2 (hothouse effect)

Sto façade insulation systems account for around

35 billion litres of heating oil thus avoiding the emission of

over than 110 million tons of CO2

External Wall Insulation Systems

Advantages of external wall insulation systems Energy saving (up to 60%) Environment: less toxic emissions, less fuel materials. Elimination of thermal bridges.

(Ceilings, geometrical thermal bridges, etc.) There, where internal insulation now is existing:

No condensation anymore in the wall construction. Reduction of temperature tensions. Increasing of the wall surface temperature inside.

No risk anymore for mould spots. A better using of the heat accumulation capacity. The facade is protected against heavy raining. A new optical attractive facade.

Calculation of the U-value:Wall structures are usually composed of several layers (internal plaster, brickwork, external plaster and/or thermal insulation, wall finish etc.). Each layer of material has a thickness d [m] and a own thermal conductivity coefficient [W/m.K].

The thermal resistance (d/)of each layer of material is added to the internal and external surface resistances (1/). The sum is the total thermal resistance (R) for the total (wall) construction. The inverted value of this figure is known as the total thermal transmittance: U-value.

+ + U-value: the smaller, the better + +
