SCHOOL NEWS
“Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.” Isaiah 26:4
The 2016-2017 school year is quickly approaching. Our theme for the year will be,
“Upon This Rock”, based on Isaiah 26:4. Our chapel talks and activities for the year will center
on this theme. We will focus on Christ, the rock upon which our Church and School are built.
Lutheran schools are built on an unchanging, eternal foundation, the rock of salvation.
The first weeks of August will be spent making final plans for the new school year. The
teachers in Kindergarten through Grade 5 will make home visits to their students before school
begins. The new school year promises to be filled with excitement, learning, and many
opportunities to grow in Christian faith and serve others.
Registration Days for the 2016-2017 school year for Kindergarten through Grade 5
students will be on Wednesday, August 3rd from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, and Thursday, August 4th
from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. Parents received a mailing in July containing Registration Day
information.
Open House and Registration for Pre-Kindergarten students will be on Monday, August
15th from 4:00 to 7:30 PM, and for Pre-School students on Thursday, August 11th from 4:00 to
7:30 PM. Parents of Pre-School and Pre-Kindergarten students have already received scheduling
information for the Open House and Registration.
The teachers will come back on duty August 1st and begin with an In-Service meeting
that day. The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 16th from 8:30 to 11:45 AM for
Kindergarten through Grade 5. The first full day of school will be Wednesday, August 17th. The
first day of classes for Pre-Kindergarten (4year olds) will be Wednesday, August 17th from 8:30
to 11:00 AM and 12:45-3:15 PM. The first day of school for Pre-School (3 year olds) will be
Thursday, August 18th from 8:30 to 11:00 AM and 12:45 to 3:15 PM.
We are looking forward to an exciting and rewarding school year, knowing that
Christ, the solid rock will continue to bless us as we share the message of His love with the
children and families of St. Paul’s and our community through our school.

Scrip Program is an
incredible fundraising
opportunity for St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church and
School. You purchase gift
cards for America’s most
popular retailers and use
them for your everyday
purchases. Scrip gift cards
are the same as gift cards
you purchase from
retailers. By simply
planning ahead on everyday
purchases, you can raise
money for St. Paul’s. A
percentage of each gift card sold is profit for St. Paul’s at no extra cost. It’s
that simple.

Stewardship Article “Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift” (2 Cor. 9:15)! This is St. Paul’s exclamation upon hearing the Corinthian church’s response to the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his request for support for the Church in Jerusalem. The Christians in Corinth heard and received God’s mercy in Christ, and they responded to St. Paul’s call to support Christians in Jerusalem with a collection. The Corinthian’s joy filled Jerusalem’s need. This is the reality of stewardship. Because of God’s generosity in the giving of His Son to die on the cross for us, we are to be generous with all that we receive from Him. What do we receive? Everything. All that we are and all that we have is the Lord’s. He is the creator and the giver. We are His creatures and those who receive what He gives. It sounds easy. And it is. But then again it isn’t. Stewardship is easy because it God’s work. Through what God gives, we give to others. Through what God gives, we support the work of the church for the life of the world. He gives; we receive. And like our generous Father in Heaven, we, as His children, use what He gives to us to love and serve others. But stewardship is also difficult. That is because it goes against our natural inclination to think that what I have is mine to do what I want with. This is our sinful nature. It is our selfishness and our greed. How can we who have been given everything—life, food, clothing, house, home, forgiveness, divine sonship, an eternal inheritance—be so stingy with what we give to the church, the place where we hear about and receive all that God gives us and does for us? We are all guilty of this kind of thinking. And the only godly response is to repent and trust in the Gospel. For if God has given you His own Son, will He not give you all things? Yes. He will. This is His sure and certain promise. God provides for His people. He provides everything we need for this body and life and for the life that is to come. The church is a mercy place. It’s a place where God’s mercy in the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ, is given and received. For we who believe in Christ, it means forgiveness, life, and salvation in the face of sin, death, and the power of the devil. Here in the church we inhale God’s mercy in Word and Sacrament, and exhale this same mercy in love and service to our neighbor. And that is an enduring, joyful thing to do. Our joy fills our neighbor’s need because His joy filled ours (Heb. 12:2). Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift!
