Neuro-DevelopmentalTreatment ConceptThe Neuro-DevelopmentalTreatment (NDT/Bobath)approach was initiated inNorth America in 1958 andhas continued to be developed for the treatment ofindividuals with pathophysiology of the central nervoussystem (CNS), primarily children with cerebral palsy(CP) and adults with stroke. Individuals with CNSpathophysiology have dysfunction in posture andmovement and subsequent functional activity limitations.The Bobaths developed the NDT/Bobath approachto address these problems. The NDT/Bobath approachcontinues to be enriched with the emergence of newtheories, new models and new information in themovement sciences. In addition, as the characteristicsof the population with CNS pathophysiology change,the approach continues to evolve. The reputation andeffectiveness of this approach to the therapy care ofchildren and adults has been well-established, respectedand recognized for decades.

The NDTA, Inc. Approved postgraduate Certificatecourses are specifically designed to be offered tolicensed Physical and Occupational Therapists andSpeech-Language Pathologists who work with adultsor children with neuromuscular impairments.Curriculum will include intensive theoretical and prac-tical work that was originally developed and taughtby Dr. Karel and Mrs. Berta Bobath as well as currentupdated information that has been further developedby the NDTA, Inc. Instructors group.

These courses are taught by a well-educated teamwhich includes an NDT Coordinator-Instructor alongwith additional NDTA Instructors who will provideexpertise and mentoring in the disciplines of Physicaland Occupational Therapy and SLP. All NDTAInstructors are required to maintain professionalcredentials and standards in keeping with the guide-lines established by the NDTA, Inc. Focuses on evaluation and treatment of children whohave cerebral palsy and other movement disorders.Understanding processes involved in typical andatypical sensor motor development is a critical emphasisin the pediatric courses.

Focuses on evaluation and treatment of adults who havehemiplegia or other neuromuscular system pathology.
