n Issue-04 : January,2015 The year 2014 was a great year for all of us, as we witnessed solid performance improvement in NESCO. We had challenges in maintaining steady power supply, reducing T&D losses, improving collection, executing Capital Projects and providing better services to consumers, but we have met and overcome those challenges with strong commitment and courage. As Managing Director of the Company, I take pride in what we have achieved as a Team in the year 2014 and convey my sincere appreciation of your tireless efforts and contribution to all of you and your family members. It is, therefore, high time to resolve and rededicate ourselves and strive hard towards effective implementation of the up-coming Schemes & Projects, which in turn will revitalize the Power Sector in Odisha. However,I am pained and concerned at times to see news reports in media & letters addressed to me regarding lack of safety and practice of illegal gratification by some of our staff . Friends, I take the opportunity to reiterate that Honesty, Integrity and Transparency in our professional and public lives are of paramount significance to earn the goodwill and confidence of our valued consumers and the society as a whole which we ought to follow sincerely and solemnly. Thus, as a mark of setting example in this direction, may I appeal all the staffs & officers of Discoms to voluntarily opt for installation of prepaid meter in their houses which would instil motivation in general consumers for regularly paying the electricity dues. With this thought and conviction in mind, let us march ahead hand-in-hand in our chosen path to transform this Year in to a „Year of accomplishments‟. I, once again, congratulate all for the achievements during last year and look forward that the performance of Discoms will touch new heights of success in the year-2015. Charge), Energy, IT & W & CD (Disabled Welfare) Sri Debasish Banerjee from R.Infra,Mumbai in-charge of Odisha DISCOM‟s operations and also Director in DISCOMs viz.WESCO, NESCO & SOUTHCO, along with Sri A.K.Bohra, Chief Executive Officer, CSO and Director of three DISCOMs met Shri Gokul Chandra Pati, IAS, Chief Secretary, GoO on 12 th December, 2014 at State Secretariat and apprised him about the remarkable improvement by NESCO and SOUTHCO during 1st six months of the current Financial Year. The Chief Secretary was also briefed about the progress of executions of various projects. The Chief Secretary was also requested for release of the balance funds towards power supply restoration work undertaken by SOUTHCO after the cyclone “PHAILIN” in 2013 and recently after cyclone “HUDHUD” for which Chief Secretary assured to release the same at the earliest. On the issue of the rising theft of energy, the Directors requested the Chief Secretary to extend GoO support by issue of directions to all the Police Stations other than EPS for registration of FIRs in electricity theft cases, as the existing Energy Police Stations are lacking in requisite manpower and infrastructure. The meeting was in the series of such meetings wherein the Directors use to brief the progress to the Chief Secretary on quarterly basis. At the end, the Chief Secretary expressed his pleasure for the performance achieved by DISCOMs and assured of all the support from the State Government towards reduction of electricity theft and in performance improvements. At a similar meeting at State Secretariat, Sri Banerjee and Sri Bohra, Directors of DISCOMs also briefed Sri Suresh Ch. Mahapatra, IAS, Principal Secretary to Govt., Department of Energy about the improvements in performance of DISCOMs. The Principal Secretary assured for extending all support to the DISCOMs towards performance improvement as well as release of balance payment of post cyclones restoration work. On raising the issues of release of Assets by GRIDCO by the Directors, the Principal Secretary assured for taking action early. total Consumer Satisfaction by rendering reliable power supply & prompt Services of the highest quality.It gives me immense pleasure in appreciating all your sincere efforts in continuing with the reducing trend of AT & C Losses in 2014. Your commitment has boosted my confidence in your ability and dedicated efforts to further improve your Performance Efficiency in 2015-16. Appellate Tribunal for Electricity Order dated 30 Nov. 2014 in Appeal No-154,156 & 157 of 2014

In above referred petitions filed by three Discoms individually, challenging the retail supply Tariff Order for FY 14-15, the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity remanded the matter to OERC with the direction to initiate the proceedings duly following the procedure & pass consequential Orders after hearing the parties, without being influenced by its earlier Orders. The Order may also be applied to earlier four decisions of the ATE for re-computation of the ARR of

three Discoms from FY 2006-07 onward.

NESCO set-up a Customer Care Centre at Jajpur Town to provide single-window services to the electricity Customers. The Centre was inaugurated by Shri Pranab Prakash Das,Hon‟ble Minister,Energy, Odisha in the presence of Shri Trilochan Panda, MD, NESCO along with senior executives of the Company. The Centre is equipped with state of the art facilities and impressive ambience and set to serve 20.000 Customers of Jajpur Town.

NESCO felicitated its outstanding performers (JE/SDOs) in a function at Balasore for their significant contributions in bringing down AT & C Loss during the Yr-2013-14. The Meritorious employees were felicitated by Er. Debasish Banerjee and Er.Anil Ku. Bohra, Directors of NESCO, at the Reward & Recognition event. The function was presided over by Shri Trilochan Panda, Managing Director, NESCO.

Carrying forward the fervour of ‘Cricket for Friendship’, OPTCL in association with GRIDCO successfully organised 10th Power Cup Cricket Tournament at Railway Stadium & IMMT Ground Bhubaneswar. Altogether 16 Teams representing different Power Sector Utilities / Industries and other Organisations viz. OERC, OPTCL, GRIDCO, NESCO, WESCO, SOUTHCO, OHPC, OPGC, NTPC, CESU, TTPS, HoD, NALCO, INFOSYSIS and VEDANTA were participated in four groups in the seven-day Tournament. Shri Pranab Prakash Das, Hon’ble Minister, Energy inaugurated the Tournament as Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony on 18th Dec. 2014 at Railway Stadium, Bhubaneswar in the presence of Shri Hemant Sharma, IAS, CMD, GRIDCO. The final match of the tournament was played between OPTCL and CESU. OPTCL emerged as Champion of the Tournament beating CESU by six wickets. In another match, NALCO defeated INFOSYSIS and finished as third in the Tournament.

On the closing day, Shri Hemanta Sharma, CMD, GRIDCO awarded the Champion‟s Trophy along with cash reward of Rs. 15,000 /- to the winning Team OPTCL and distributed other prizes in the presence of Shri Srikant Nayak, Special Secretary, DoE and Shri B. K. Mishra, Chairman, CESU. CESU received the Runners-up Trophy with cash reward of Rs. 10,000/- from the Chief Guest. All rounder Arun bagged both man of the final and best batsman awards. Similarly, Abhaya Mallick, Sambit Harichandan and Amitav Rout of the Champion Team received best fielder, wicketkeeper and bowler awards respectively. Pratap Pattnaik of CESU got the best batsman award.

Brief Score of Final Match: CESU 167/4 in 25 overs (Pratap Patnaik 83, Dipti Mishra 47; Amitav Rout 2/32) lost to OPTCL 169/4 in 23 overs

The newly constructed 33/11 KV Sub-station at Ramanaguda under Gunupur Electrical Division of SOUTHCO in Rayagada District was commissioned by Er. Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Managing Director of SOUTHCO on 15.12.2014 in the presence of senior executives of the Company. The Substation has been constructed under RLTAP scheme. Earlier, the consumers of Ramanaguda Block were exposed to frequent low-voltage and power interruptions. With commissioning of this Substation powered by two nos. of 3.15 MVA transformers, around 7000 consumers spread over 464 villages of Ramanaguda Block are now availing quality power supply being relieved from low-voltage problem and frequent power disturbances.

IMPACT OF HUD HUD RESTORATION WORKS

As a result of its preparedness with adequate men and material and preventive measures keeping in view the probable aftermath impact of Hud Hud, SOUTHCO has successfully completed the power restoration works in affected consumers both in urban and rural areas of districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Boudh & Kandhamal within 48 hours of the cyclone.

After subsiding of the Hud Hud, the SOUTHCO Restoration Teams who were kept in preparedness equipped with skilled men and materials immediately took-up the work on war footing basis with due adherence to the Disaster Management Plan in the affected areas of the above districts. As a result of galvanised efforts of 2500 skilled engineers and workers of SOUTHCO, WESCO and Private Electrical Contractors, all Block Headquarters in the supply area of SOUTHCO have been reconnected with power by re-energising all the 74 nos. 33kv feeders & 499 nos. 11kv feeders. The excellent cyclone preparedness and post Hud Hud response followed by speedy and systematic restoration works on war footing basis received accolades and commendation from all quarters including Govt. of Odisha.

Er. A. K. Bohra, Chief Executive Officer, CSO (NESCO, WESCO & SOUTHCO) participated in the 8th India Energy Summit organized by ICC at New Delhi on 11th–12th Nov. 2014. He took part in the exclusive panel discussion with Private Discoms.
