Cape Town’s MyCiTi

•Cape Town's MyCiTi will be made up of:• trunk services – dedicated routes, stations and

buses• feeder services – routes, stops & buses• Dedicated pedestrian infrastructure and cycle

ways• and supported by:• A new set of organisational arrangements and

business model

How IRT will work

•Fares will be similar to those currently charged

•Cheaper fares off peak•From R4 to R16

•Buses running every few minutes in peak

•Around three times per hour in non-peak

•Services from early morning to late evening

Electronic smart cards

•Allows transfers between routes on a single fare

•Smooth processing of large numbers of passengers

•Sold at stations and retail outlets

• Integrated into new cards issued by South African banks since April

• Unless a much greater proportion of mobility and access is provided by public transport, walking and cycling this will not be feasible because of congestion

• Some trunk services through CBD to Waterfront• Key to movement within area between Salt River and

Sea Point is the feeder services
