MY MAGAZINE PROPOSAL

By Emily gleeson

GENRERock? R&B? Indie?

❑ I feel that the ‘Indie’ genre is the most relevant to me and my audience ,as I received higher positive data for the indie genre. Furthermore I believe Indie be interesting to create artistic photos and a unique and interesting layout compared to the other genres that I’ve previously explored.(R&B/ROCK) But most magazines I’ve looked at encage in a fluid genre, and this is the route I want to go down as it lets in a variety of audiences in and a broader audience.

Fluidity in Genres; Genre

❑ Whilst doing my key concepts for ‘Status’ magazine, I began to collect the most important aspects of music magazines and why which further will help me decipher the layout of my music magazine.

FREQUENCY❑In my survey monkey I

found out that most people read music magazines 0-1 times a week, making me think I should do it weekly, but Monthly allows you to include more ideas and really refine your magazines, and as I want my magazine to be artistic as well as still adhere to music magazine codes and conventions ,it would make more sense to have a monthly issue.

❑ The monthly accurance of my magazine, will allow my audience to be waiting for my magazine and wanting to purchase it when it finally comes out monthly.

TARGET AUDIENCEPrimary Audience; 16-25 year olds / c1,c2My die hard readers are going to be a higher percentage of females as its more of an arty and fashion based magazine ,rather than the stereotypical music magazines that men are usually drawn to. 70% women and 30% men.

Secondary Audience;25+/AB.Here are either collectors of my magazine or more of the male readers as their not as high of a percentage of readers compared to females. 80% men/collectors and 20% female.

SIMILAR MAGAZINESThese magazines focus on the images and make sure their interesting and extremely professional. Each cover is unique and uses different techniques to create an innovative magazine. Furthermore these magazines are my competition due to their similar vibes hat I’m going for in mine, but to make mine even better I will combine a variety of ideas. I feel like they don’t include enough arty photos an extremely unique images so that’s what I will do.

CONTENT

• In most of the magazines I’ve looked at they have multiple articles, one main one then a few small artists in the others. So in my magazine want to include a main double page spread with the artists on my front page and then 2 other articles (smaller ones) that use other ‘less famous’ artists. I want my article to be an interview/autobiography on the artist, so the audience and readers understand the artist's life in the past and present just like ‘status’ do in their articles.

Here is a poster/second front cover placed at the back of the magazine, which is something I want to do for my subscribers as an extra add on for them.

Article inspiration

IdeasFeature article;I want to have a duo act, who are in the indie genre and creating my article in a artistic way, just like the other magazines i’ve been studying and looking at. I’ve already taken a variety of photos and now will relate them to a theme and colour scheme ’house colors’

Locations; I will be going up to brixton to take more outside shots of my duo act and i am possibly going to a gig place and taking photos on a stage to get a realistic effect.

Possible titles;• Subtract • Communication• Noise• The Sound• Fusion• Desire

Possible Colour Scheme;

Mood/Values of your magazine

• I want my magazine to be interactive as well as fun. In some ways I want my magazine to come across as ‘informal’ I want to connect with my audience and not just inform them or just through information at them. The information will be given in a positive and interesting manner to engage my audience into reading and viewing this magazine.

• Secondly I want my magazine to be simple yet sophisticated ,The magazines I recently looked at include all the right things but in a similar and more artistic manner which is a path I want to go down.

Publicity

• Social media is everything nowadays, social media will be the top of my priority when it comes to advertising my magazine. I can collect a wider range of an audience and help them interact with us understanding recent giveaways and the next celebrity in the next issue.

Unique selling point

• My fluidity of genres and that also that this magazine is female orientated unlike other magazines.

• As Well as this my music magazine will be artist and filled with music information giving the stereotypical music magazine a different vibe.
