FADE IN:

EXT. DREAM VALLEY - AFTERNOON

Dream Castle sits along a stream leading from the tall

waterfall cascading down a nearby cliff to a large

lake. The drawbridge spans the stream. The pink-walled and

blue-roofed castle stands out against the rolling green

hills and clusters of trees surrounding it and extending to

mountains on the horizon.

INT. DREAM CASTLE - LIBRARY - AFTERNOON

WIND WHISTLER, young and pretty by pegasus standards with a

wave to her long, pastel pink hair and her mane cascading

down around her face, hovers in front of a bookcase and

pushes a book into place.

Wind Whistler lands gently on the ground and folds her

feathery wings to her sides. She looks down the isle.

A colorful collection of books neatly fills all ten levels

of shelves of the two cases on either side.

Wind Whistler closes her eyes and heaves a sigh of relief.

PARADISE (O.S.)

How are things going over here?

Wind Whistler looks up.

PARADISE, looking every bit the part of a librarian with

green, turtle shell-framed glasses on a pearl strap perched

on her muzzle and her mane in a loose bun, walks out from

behind a bookcase and turns to face down the isle.

WIND WHISTLER

I just finished here. Recent

history certainly has been popular

as of late.

PARADISE

Everyone is excited about the

centennial.

Five soft chimes sound. Paradise looks to the side down the

crossing isle.

CLOSE UP:

A clock face with roman numerals. The Minute hand points to

the XII and the hour hands points to the V.

2.

PARADISE (cont’d)

Wow! It’s five o’clock already?

Paradise turns back to Wind Whistler.

PARADISE (cont’d)

So, you any plans for this evening?

WIND WHISTLER

I have to pick up my dress from

Buttons’ and a few other quick

errands to run. Other than that...

(shrugging)

...I guess I will just curl up with

a good book.

Paradise frowns.

PARADISE

(mildly scolds)

You need to be more social, Wind

Whistler. You hardly hang out with

anyone or even hang out anywhere

but your apartment.

(cocking head to the side)

What about that boyfriend of yours?

Wind Whistler’s eyes widen and her cheeks redden

slightly. She darts her eyes to the side.

WIND WHISTLER

H-he has been on double duty like

the rest of the scouts lately.

O-our schedules do not match well

at the moment.

Wind Whistler brings her eyes forward again, and the redness

fades from her cheeks.

WIND WHISTLER (cont’d)

And I do spend time with Fizzy on

occasion.

PARADISE

But she grew up with you as a big

sister figure. It wouldn’t hurt you

to meet other ponies. You might

make some friends.

Paradise smiles.

3.

PARADISE (cont’d)

(motioning behind her)

Anyway, I’ll see you at eight

tomorrow morning. Have a nice

evening.

WIND WHISTLER

Thank you, Paradise.

Wind Whistler walks out of frame.

INT. DREAM CASTLE - HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS

Wind Whistler walks out the doorway to the library into a

large hall. FIZZY, youthful with frizzy, striped hair,

walks into the hallway from another in the b.g. Fizzy looks

to Wind Whistler.

FIZZY

(calls out, waving)

Wind Whistler!

Wind Whistler looks around before seeing Fizzy. Fizzy

gallops towards Wind Whistler, sidestepping out of running

into another pony walking down the hall. The mare rears up.

FEMALE PONY #1

Hey! Watch it!

FIZZY

Sorry.

The mare puts her hooves on the ground and Fizzy runs

towards Wind Whistler.

Fizzy plants her hooves in front of her to slide. A pink

ribbon tied in a large bow decorates her mane. PAN with

Fizzy.

WIND WHISTLER (O.S.)

Hello, Fizzy.

PAN to bring Wind Whistler into frame.

WIND WHISTLER

How was your day?

Fizzy comes to a stop in front of Wind Whistler.

FIZZY

(enthusiastically)

Really busy. We’re working hard to

put up all the decorations and make

everything is as clean as possible.

4.

(rearing up on hind hooves)

I’m so excited! It’s going to look

so great when we’re done!

Fizzy places all four hooves on the ground.

WIND WHISTLER

(smiling)

I cannot wait to see it.

Fizzy and Wind Whistler start walking forward.

FIZZY

How was your day at the library?

WIND WHISTLER

Busy as well. I think the castle’s

entire staff has been through there

and then some the past few days.

EXT. DREAM CASTLE - COURTYARD - CONTINUOUS

Fizzy and Wind Whistler step out of a large double doorway

and walk down a stone staircase onto the cobblestones paving

the yard. In the f.g. and b.g., ponies mill about in

groups. Several ponies stand on ladders and balconies

putting up colorful ribbons and other decorations. Fizzy

and Wind Whistler continue walking towards the opposite end

of the courtyard.

FIZZY

I’m going to pick up my dress from

Buttons’.

WIND WHISTLER

So am I.

FIZZY

(skipping a step)

Great! You want to do something

together afterward?

WIND WHISTLER

I have some other quick errands,

but I guess we could. Is their

anything you have in mind?

Fizzy stops and so does Wind Whistler. Fizzy’s mouth forms

into a screwed-up smirk. She holds up her hoof as she gets

close to Wind Whistler’s ear.

5.

FIZZY

(whispers)

It’s a secret, but Tootsie got

several kegs of root beer for the

festivities. She asked me to taste

test it. I’m sure she would love a

second opinion.

Fizzy steps away. Her grin straightens and widens.

WIND WHISTLER

(smiling)

That sounds good.

FIZZY

(cheers, leaping in place)

Awesome! Let’s pick up our dresses

and head there!

Fizzy places all four hooves on the ground and gallops out

of frame in direction of the gate.

EXT. DREAM VALLEY - CONTINUOUS

Fizzy gallops onto the bridge and stops. She looks back and

waits until Wind Whistler walks out.

Fizzy and Wind Whistler cross the bridge about halfway.

HURRICANE (O.S.)

Hey ladies.

Fizzy and Wind Whistler stop and look up.

HURRICANE, modestly handsome by pegasus standards, flies

down into frame and lands in front of Wind Whistler and

Fizzy. He folds his wings over the pair of saddlebags

resting against his sides from strap around his midsection.

A pair of binoculars hangs around his neck from their strap.

WIND WHISTLER

Hello, Hurricane.

HURRICANE

How was your day?

WIND WHISTLER

Busy as usual. How about you?

Hurricane looks out into the valley.

6.

HURRICANE

I’m about to head out on scouting

duty.

Wind Whistler cocks her head to the side and forms her mouth

into a small frown.

WIND WHISTLER

I thought your shift did not start

until six.

Wind Whistler rights her head. Hurricane turns back to Wind

Whistler.

HURRICANE

I have to relieve Masquerade at

six. I want to stop by my usual

sources first.

Hurricane wraps his head around Wind Whistler’s neck and she

wraps hers around his. They smile as they nuzzle.

CLOSE UP:

HURRICANE (cont’d)

(tenderly)

I also wanted to see how you doing

before heading out.

WIND WHISTLER

(coos)

Well, I am doing fine. Thank you.

Be safe on your shift.

Hurricane takes a step back. He waves and spreads his

wings. With a flap he takes off.

Hurricane flies away into the hazy, blue sky populated by

puffy, white clouds.

Fizzy and Wind Whistler wave for a couple seconds before

placing their hooves on the ground.

FIZZY

He’s such a nice stallion seeing

you before going off on duty.

WIND WHISTLER

(smiling warmly)

He certainly is.

Fizzy turns to Wind Whistler and frowns concernedly.

7.

FIZZY

Though, it seems like the scouts

are always out lately.

Wind Whistler turns to Fizzy. Her smile sinks into a

concerned frown.

WIND WHISTLER

We must be diligent against a

surprise attack by the witches. Do

not forget this not only marks the

centennial of our kingdom’s

founding but their defeat as well.

Wind Whistler stares at the mountains in the distance.

WIND WHISTLER (cont’d)

They are probably fuming and

planning whatever they can as we

speak.

EXT. LAND OF NIGHTMARES - AFTERNOON

The desolate, dull brown terrain rises up in sharp, imposing

peaks. The Volcano of Gloom towers above them all, white

smoke billowing from its crater.

EXT. VOLCANO OF GLOOM

Glowing red lava bubbles in the crater. A winding bridge of

volcanic rock connects the rim of the crater to a spire of

rock near it. A building sits on the top of the spire.

Gloom Fortress sits at the top of the rock spire. The

ramshackle castle has pocked walls and shingles missing.

INT. GLOOM FORTRESS - HYDIA’S BEDROOM - AFTERNOON

A bump under the ratty, blue covers on the bed rise and fall

slowly. Loud, raspy snoring comes from the bump. The

snoring stops in a snort and the bump bolts up.

HYDIA

(from under covers)

PONIES!

HYDIA, an ugly, dwarfish hag of a woman, throws the cover

off her. She wears a pale pink, sleeveless nightgown, a

black, frilled sleeping mask over her eye sockets, and pink

hair curlers in her ratty, red hair. She swings her head

from side to side grumbling something unintelligible.

CLOSE UP:

8.

Hydia’s hand sets her sleeping mask down on the nightstand

and picks up a black eye patch on a strap.

Hydia adjusts the eye patch over her left eye socket,

watching with her beady right eye. She lets go of the eye

patch and hops out of bed.

Hydia walks over to a large calender on the wall with a sign

stating "AGENDA" above it.

CLOSE UP:

The message "KILL THE PONIES" in big, red letters with a

thick, red "X" over it fills every day until the 18th with

just the message and nothing in the 19th and beyond except

the message "CENTENNIAL PONIES SHOULD BE DEAD" with "DEAD"

double underlined on the 22nd.

Hydia grits her crooked, yellow teeth in a discontented

grimace. She walks towards the POV with her balled fists

swinging in front of her grumbling something under her

breath until her nightgown fills the frame and blocks out

all light in a FADE to black.

INT. GLOOM FORTRESS - AFTERNOON

A rickety, wooden door bursts open with a loud crash to

reveal Hydia in her normal attire of a patched-up blue dress

and a dark blue robe. She holds her foot up from kicking

the door open. After standing there for less than a second,

she walks to the side with her fists swinging at her sides.

Hydia walks past stalagmites spewing steam in the f.g. and

b.g. to a smoking, bubbling vat carved out of a column of

rock. She hops on a crate next to it to see over the edge.

OVER HYDIA’S SHOULDER:

Hydia waves her hand over the green, bubbling liquid. An

image of ponies happily playing and working in green fields

forms on the surface.

Hydia grits her teeth at the image.

HYDIA

(growls)

You wretched ponies. It’s been a

century and your still here.

(louder)

I’ve tried everything I can think

of and you’re still here.

Hydia grabs a large, wooden spoon and raises it over her

head.

9.

CLOSE UP:

The spoon slams into the surface of the liquid with a loud

splash. The waves from the impact break up the image.

Hydia raises her tightly balled fists with the spoon in one

of them over her head.

HYDIA (cont’d)

(screams at vat)

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO TO GET RID OF

YOU?!

Hydia leans on the edge of the vat, bracing her head with

her hand. She looks to the side.

CLOSE UP:

A portrait of a woman with a similar appearance to Hydia

only with black hair and a tall man with a completely bald

head wearing a blue robe sits in a faded, wooden frame.

Hydia stares on longingly and heaves a melancholy sigh.

HYDIA (cont’d)

We were feared under you, Mom and

Dad. We made people’s lives

miserable. Everything around here

was dark, dank, and dreary. It was

glorious.

Hydia’s expression sinks into a scowl.

HYDIA (cont’d)

Then those ponies showed up. They

put a stop to our reign of terror.

Hydia turns to the vat, digging her talon-like nails into

the edge.

HYDIA (cont’d)

They even made their green, bright,

and colorful kingdom right under

our nose.

Hydia tenses but slouches and grabs her head to hold it low.

HYDIA (cont’d)

(almost sobs)

Now we’re a laughingstock, and I

can’t think of anything we can do

about it.

10.

A soft, blue, pulsing light fills the room with a faint ring

coming with with each pulse. Hydia picks up her head and

looks to the source of the light o.s.

CLOSE UP:

A blue crystal set in the rock over and to the side of the

vat pulses.

Hydia furrows her brow.

HYDIA (cont’d)

Who would bring magic into the Land

of Nightmares?

Hydia turns to the vat and waves her hand over it.

HYDIA’S POV:

The image of several men wearing riding clothes on horseback

leading their steeds over rocky terrain appears on the

surface.

Hydia grins and chuckles under her breath.

HYDIA (cont’d)

Ask and thou shall receive.

(waving hand over vat)

I wonder who’s closest.

HYDIA’S POV:

The image of the horsemen dissolves to an image of REEKA, a

rotund, black-haired, young woman wearing a patched-up

orange dress, and DRAGGLE, a scrawny, young woman with ratty

red hair wearing blue, ill-fitting coveralls, sitting on a

rock. Draggle braces her head on her hand and drums her

long, bony fingers on her cheek as she stares off into

space. Reeka takes a generous bite from a moldy sandwich

and chews with her cheeks bulging.

HYDIA (O.S.)

Well, well, if it isn’t my own

useless daughters? However, this

should be easy even for them.

Reeka takes another bite.

HYDIA (O.S.) (cont’d)

Reeka! Draggle!

Reeka and Draggle jump to their feet. Reeka shoves what

remains of her snadwich in her mouth and swallows.

11.

HYDIA (O.S.) (cont’d)

There’s a group on horseback

heading towards Maw Gorge carrying

magic of some kind. Head there and

steal it.

DRAGGLE

(holding up index finger)

Consider it stolen, Mama.

HYDIA (O.S.)

(menacingly)

What did you call me?

Reeka and Dragggle jump back a step and hunch away with

horrified expressions. Draggle gulps dryly.

DRAGGLE

(stutters)

S-sorry, Hydia.

HYDIA (O.S.)

(snaps)

Just go and steal it!

Reeka and Draggle scramble out of view.

Hydia rubs her clasped hands together and grins.

HYDIA

I wonder what those saps are

carrying.

Hydia pauses to tap her finger against her chin and stare

up. She looks down at the vat and grins.

HYDIA (cont’d)

As long as I can use it against the

ponies, who cares?

Hydia cackles loudly.

FADE OUT:

FADE IN:

EXT. DREAM VALLEY - EVENING

A white, stone, two-story building with a blue slate roof

and large, square windows on the first floor sits along a

dirt path in a clump of trees. Colorful flowers grow in

flower boxes under the windows and in flower beds in front

of the building. Wind Whistler and Fizzy walk to the front

door.

12.

INT. BUTTON’S SHOP - CONTINUOUS

CLOSE UP:

The door opens, ringing a bell in the corner.

Fizzy and Wind Whistler walk into the shop. Pony-shaped

mannequins stand on the floor and platforms, some wearing

articles of clothing. Large mirrors take up much of the

space on the walls.

BUTTONS, disheveled and visibly tired, walks through the

swing doors to a back room. A measuring tape hangs over her

neck and a pin cushion hangs out of a pocket in her vest.

Fizzy and Wind Whistler turn to her.

BUTTONS

Hello. Are you two here to pick up

your dresses?

WIND WHISTLER

Yes. Thank you for completing them

so quickly.

Buttons heaves a sigh.

BUTTONS

Fortunately it wasn’t just me. I

had a lot of help from Ribbon and

Bow-Tie. I’ve been swamped with

tailoring and new orders. Then

there’s...

HEARTTHROB (O.S.)

(from outside, in a singsong

voice)

Buttons, darling, is Fizzy here?

Button’s expression sinks into an irritated scowl.

BUTTONS

(dully)

...Heartthrob.

The bell rings and HEARTTHROB, a natural attention-grabber

with her mane done up in perm on the top of her head and a

pearl necklace around her next walks in.

HEARTTHROB

(looking from side to side)

I thought I saw her come in.

Heartthrob sees Fizzy.

13.

HEARTTHROB (cont’d)

And you did.

(clasping hooves together)

How perfect?

Fizzy furrows her brow.

FIZZY

Why’s that?

Buttons walks up to a tassel in front of red curtains.

BUTTONS

Brace yourself. This is your new

dress.

A dark purple aura surrounds Buttons’ fluted horn and an

aura of the same color surrounds the tassel. The tassel

pulls down and the curtains part.

The curtains part to reveal a mannequin wearing a dress made

of a dark green bodice with white, puffy sleeves and a dark

pink skirt designed for a quadruped with paler pink frills.

Fizzy gasps as her eyes widen and twinkle and her mouth

forms into a wide smile.

FIZZY

It’s gorgeous.

Fizzy blinks and the twinkle disappears as she frowns.

FIZZY (cont’d)

But, this isn’t what I ordered, and

I could never afford it.

Heartthrob throws her front leg over Fizzy’s shoulders and

pulls her in.

HEARTTHROB

Don’t worry, darling. I’ll cover

the difference from your original

order.

Heartthrob makes a determined face and flexes her free leg.

HEARTTHROB (cont’d)

This is my obligation as the

kingdom’s matchmaker.

Heartthrob sweeps her free hoof in front of them and she and

Fizzy follow it with their heads.

14.

HEARTTHROB (cont’d)

This is effectively your debutant,

your entrance into society as a

grown mare.

Heartthrob swings Fizzy around her and holds her by the

shoulders.

HEARTTHROB (cont’d)

You must make an impression and

this dress will do just that.

BUTTONS

(to Wind Whistler)

This is why I needed

help. Heartthrob had Flutterbye

designed dresses like this for the

latest class of mares.

Fizzy steps up on the platform and examines the dress. She

looks back and smile.

FIZZY

Well I love it. Thank you so much.

WIND WHISTLER

(to Heartthrob)

You do realize this is a

celebration of the centennial of

our kingdom’s founding.

Heartthrob glares at Wind Whistler. She turns her nose up.

HEARTTHROB

Really, darling, you’re such a

stick in the mud.

Buttons picks up a plain, blue dress with long sleeves and

pink lace along the hem. She sets it down on a chair next

to Wind Whistler.

BUTTONS

Here’s your dress, Wind Whistler. I

made the repairs and adjustments

you wanted.

WIND WHISTLER

Thank you.

Heartthrob sees Wind Whistler’s dress and gasps.

15.

HEARTTHROB

(horrified)

Don’t tell me you’re going to the

jamboree in that plain thing,

darling. It screams librarian.

Wind Whistler frowns.

WIND WHISTLER

(defensively)

I am a librarian, and I have a

boyfriend who happens to like it.

Heartthrob steps up to practically lean against Wind

Whistler. She holds up her hoof and looks at it critically.

HEARTTHROB

Speaking of him: you’ve been going

steady for two years now. When are

you two going to take the plunge?

Wind Whistler’s eyes widen as much as they can and her

cheeks turn deep red.

WIND WHISTLER

(chokes)

P-plunge?!

Wind Whistler darts her eyes around the room and nervously

paws the floor.

WIND WHISTLER (cont’d)

Well...we...um...

BUTTONS

(scolds Heartthrob)

They’ll do it when they’re good and

ready.

Wind Whistler’s eyes fall upon a mannequin wearing a dull

blue, full body parka with white trim around the hood. Ski

goggles cover the eye area and a scarf covers the muzzle.

WIND WHISTLER

(pointing to mannequin)

What’s that?

Buttons turns to the mannequin.

BUTTONS

That’s a project I had been working

on before the orders started

pouring in. I got a bolt of magical

16.

BUTTONS (cont’d)fabric that almost perfectly

insulates against the cold. I

thought I would make cold weather

gear if we ever needed it.

Buttons heaves a melancholy sigh.

BUTTONS (cont’d)

I have enough to make a hundred

suits. However, I’ve only made 48

so far. I’m so swamped right now, I

can’t make more until after the

centennial.

EXT. LAND OF NIGHTMARES - EVENING

Hurricane flies over the desolate landscape. He swings his

head from side to side looking down.

HURRICANE’S POV:

Four buzzards, MIKE, DAVE, JOE, and NICK, PAN into frame,

greedily biting into a carcass rotted beyond recognition.

Hurricane dives out of frame.

Hurricane glides into frame and lands on the ground next to

the carcass.

HURRICANE

Hey, guys. What died?

Mike looks up.

MIKE

I think it was a smilodon.

Joe picks up his head and looks to Mike.

JOE

Really? I’m tasting reptile here.

Dave pulls off a string of flesh and claps it up in his beak

to swallow.

DAVE

Who cares? It’s at that perfect

time in the rotting process to

bring out the flavor.

Dave looks up to Hurricane and motions with his wing to the

heap of grayish-brown flesh.

17.

DAVE (cont’d)

Want some?

Hurricane forces his mouth into a smile, but looks a bit

sick.

HURRICANE

I bet it’s great, guys, but I’m a

pony.

Hurricane pats his chest.

HURRICANE (cont’d)

I can’t digest flesh and all.

DAVE

(shrugging)

Your loss.

HURRICANE

We manage.

Hurricane sits down.

HURRICANE (cont’d)

Anyway, what’s the buzz among the

buzzards? Do the witches have any

special plans for the centennial?

Mike coughs a laugh.

MIKE

They wish. They’ve been wracking

their brains, but they haven’t

thought of anything new.

DAVE

They’re none too happy about it

either. I suggest you avoid the

Volcano of Gloom if you value your

hearing.

HURRICANE

Well, as long as the witches are

beating their heads against the

proverbial wall, we’re a bunch of

happy ponies in Dream Valley.

Thanks.

Hurricane stands up and spreads his wings. Joe holds up his

wing.

18.

JOE

Wait! There’s more. On the way here

I saw a group of horsemen heading

straight for Maw Gorge and setting

off all of the magic detecting gems

along the way.

Hurricane’s wings droop and his jaw drops.

HURRICANE

Maw Gorge? What idiot would go into

Maw Gorge? Everyone and their

mother knows its one big booby trap

set by the witches.

JOE

(shrugging)

I don’t know. Ask them.

HURRICANE

If I get the chance. This is an

opportunity I know the witches

won’t pass up.

Hurricane unbuckles his saddlebag and pulls out a gray, boxy

radio. He sets the radio on the ground and hits a

switch. He bends down to the microphone attached to the

side.

HURRICANE (cont’d)

(into microphone)

Twilight, come in. This is

Hurricane. Where are you?

TWILIGHT (O.S.)

(from radio)

This is Twilight. Masquerade and I

are at the waypoint near Devil’s

Rock. Why?

HURRICANE

(under breath)

Pony feathers. You’re further away

than I am.

(into microphone)

I just got word someone is heading

into Maw Gorge carrying magic.

TWILIGHT (O.S.)

You got to be kidding.

19.

HURRICANE

I wish. I’m on the opposite side of

Dream Valley like you. I’ll call it

in and then head there.

TWILIGHT (O.S.)

We’ll head there as fast as we

can. Twilight out.

Hurricane taps the switch and then another.

INT. DREAM CASTLE - RADIO ROOM - EVENING

SPARKY leans back in a wooden chair at a radio set on a

table with his eyes closed. Maps cover most of the wall to

his side.

HURRICANE (O.S.)

(from radio)

Dream Castle, come in. This is

Hurricane.

Sparky opens his blue eyes and leans forward to let the

front legs of the chair hit the floor with a clunk. He hits

a switch and grabs a microphone on a short stand.

SPARKY

(into microphone)

Dream Castle, Sparky speaking.

What’s going on out there.

HURRICANE (O.S.)

Someone is heading for Maw Gorge

with magic.

Sparky jumps out of his chair and slams his front hooves on

the table.

SPARKY

What?!

HURRICANE (O.S.)

You heard me. The witches probably

have a welcoming committee headed

there right now. We’re headed

there, but someone from the valley

can get there quicker.

SPARKY

I’ll get someone. Sparky out.

Sparky hits a switch and then another.

20.

SPARKY (cont’d)

(into microphone)

Whizzer, get in here.

The door behind Sparky bursts open and a blur of green,

blue, aqua, and purple rushes in with a blast of wind that

ruffles Sparky’s hair and a stack of paper on the

table. The blur stops as WHIZZER with her hair contracting

into a crimp from being blown back. Sparky places all four

hooves in the floor.

WHIZZER

(hurriedly, saluting)

I’m here. What do you need?

Whizzer puts her hoof down.

SPARKY

I need you to find some ponies

ready to head out immediately.

Someone is heading into Maw Gorge

with magic and the witches are

probably on their way to steal it

from them. They must be stopped.

WHIZZER

You got it. You can count on me.

I’ll find someone in no time.

Sparky frowns and points to the door.

SPARKY

Just get out there and find

someone.

Whizzer salutes and dashes out the door in a blur. The

blast of wind blows the stack of papers over. Sparky heaves

a sigh and shakes his head.

SPARKY (cont’d)

It’s going to be one of those

evenings.

EXT. DREAM VALLEY - TOOTSIE’S SHOP - EVENING

Fizzy and Wind Whistler sit in chairs at a table in front of

Tootsie’s candy store, another white and blue roofed

building with a sign depicting colorful suckers next to the

door and four tables under umbrellas in front of it. Bags

sit under the table. TOOTSIE, her blue mane in a pony tail,

holds a wooden keg.

CLOSE UP:

21.

Dark brown root beer flows from a hole in the keg into a

clear glass. A thick head of foam forms on the liquid as it

fills the glass and fizzes. The keg tilts up to stop the

stream as the head reaches the top of the glass.

Tootsie looks to Fizzy.

TOOTSIE

(excitedly)

Thank you so much for taste testing

the boot rear...I mean root beer,

Fizzy. I want to make sure it’s top

quality, and you have the best

tongue for sodas in the kingdom.

Tootsie turns to Wind Whistler and pours root beer into her

glass.

TOOTSIE (cont’d)

A second opinion is also nice.

Tootsie tilts the keg up as foam reaches the top of Wind

Whistler’s glass. She sets the keg down on the ground and

stamps a cork in it.

FIZZY

Glad to help, Tootsie.

Fizzy and Wind Whistler slide straws into their glasses and

take a sip. They look up and smack their lips

softly. Tootsie’s mouth forms into a wide grin.

TOOTSIE

Well?

Fizzy closes her eyes and nods.

FIZZY

Excellent. It’s sweet but not

sickeningly so, and the taste of

the sarsaparilla is distinct

without being overwhelming. The

carbonation is also just right to

be bubbly while still being smooth.

Tootsie turns to Wind Whistler with same wide grin.

WIND WHISTLER

Although not a connoisseur of

carbonated beverages like Fizzy, I

concur with her on the root beer’s

exemplary quality.

22.

Tootsie yips and reaches out of frame to bring Fizzy and

Wind Whistler into frame to embrace them in a tight hug.

TOOTSIE

(cheers)

Yank two...I mean thank you. I’m

sure it will be a big fit at the

hestival...I mean hit at the

festival.

Fizzy and Wind Whistler glance to each other and then up at

Tootsie with uncomfortable expressions.

WIND WHISTLER

("politely")

Do not mention it, Tootsie.

GUSTY, tomboyish with her mane cropped short with ratty

edges, walks towards the shop on the dirt path passing by

it. She stops and looks at the three o.s. with a confused

expression.

GUSTY

(uncomfortably)

Okay. I’m not even going to ask.

Tootsie lets go of Fizzy and Wind Whistler to let them take

their seats.

Whizzer dashes in and lands next to the table and everyone

turns to her. Her chest heaves as she gasps for air. She

takes one deep breath.

WHIZZER

(hurriedly)

Oh good. I found you. I needed to

find a group of ponies ready to

head out, and you look ready.

Whizzer points and looks to the side.

WHIZZER (cont’d)

Hurricane called in saying someone

is headed into Maw Gorge carrying

magic.

Whizzer stands on her hind hooves and flails her front legs

frantically.

WHIZZER (cont’d)

The witches are probably on their

way to steal it and the all the

scouts are on the other side of

WHIZZER (cont’d)

Dream Valley. I was sent out to get

a group of ponies to stop them. You

gotta get out there quick, quick,

quick!

Whizzer sets her hooves on the ground and gasps loudly for

air. Tootsie’s hoof pushes a glass of root beer with a

straw into frame on the table to next to Whizzer.

TOOTSIE (O.S.)

Here you go.

WHIZZER

(wheezes)

Thanks.

Whizzer clasps her lips around the straw and starts gulping

down.

WIND WHISTLER

(standing up)

We must rendezvous with these

horsemen and protect them and their

cargo from the witches.

Fizzy slips out of her chair onto all fours.

FIZZY

I don’t get it. What’s so important

about Maw Gorge?

Wind Whistler turns to Fizzy.

WIND WHISTLER

Maw Gorge is a passage near Dream

Valley. It looks like a safe cut

through with relatively even ground

and cover.

Wind Whistler looks out into the valley.

WIND WHISTLER (cont’d)

However, it is a natural bottleneck

and perfect ambush point with all

its blind spots.

Wind Whistler turns back to the others.

WIND WHISTLER (cont’d)

The witches know this. They have

covered the gorge and surrounding

areas with an unusually high

WIND WHISTLER (cont’d)concentration of magic detecting

gems to let them know if anyone

enters with magic they can steal.

Wind Whistler looks back into the valley.

WIND WHISTLER (cont’d)

Those travelers are in dire

jeopardy.

GUSTY

I didn’t understand half of what

you said, but count me in. The

name’s Gusty.

(to Wind Whistler)

What’s yours?

Wind Whistler flinches.

WIND WHISTLER

Uh...Wind Whistler...

(pointing to Fizzy)

...and this is my friend, Fizzy.

FIZZY

Hi.

Gusty faces forward and lowers her head.

GUSTY

(scratching the ground)

Well, you two, let’s go kick some

witch butt.

Gusty gallops away out of frame. Wind Whistler spreads her

wings and flies after Gusty. Fizzy bites her lower lip and

darts her eyes from side to side.

FIZZY

(nervously)

Umm...

Fizzy prances in place and looks around.

FIZZY (cont’d)

(calling after Gusty and Wind

Whistler)

I should go too. You might need the

help.

25.

Fizzy gallops after Gusty and Wind Whistler out of

frame. After a second or two, she runs back into frame and

gulps down the rest of the root beer in her glass through

the straw. She looks up to Tootsie.

FIZZY (cont’d)

Bye, Tootsie.

Fizzy disappears in a flash of pink. Tootsie waves.

TOOTSIE

See you later.

FADE OUT:

FADE IN:

EXT. LAND OF NIGHTMARES - EVENING

Maw Gorge carves deep into the pale tan ground with sharp

outcroppings around its elongated rim to make it look like a

toothy mouth.

EXT. MAW GORGE - EVENING

The horsemen slowly make their way through the bottom of the

gorge. The clacking of their horse’s hooves echo around

them. Some glance up warily at the outcroppings.

The PRINCE, a young, scrawny man with short, red hair, wears

a simple, gold crown and rides a white stallion in the lead.

PRINCE

(looking forward)

Come along, men. We will soon

arrive at Dream Valley and have a

chance to rest.

PAN up. Reeka and Draggle hide behind an outcropping and

gaze down into the gorge. Reeka grins eagerly and chuckles.

REEKA

Like lambs to the slaughter.

Reeka loudly licks her chops. Draggle turns to Reeka and

frowns.

DRAGGLE

(irritably)

Does everything make you think of

food?

Reeka pauses and taps her chin with her doughy finger.

26.

REEKA

(shrugging)

Just about.

The two return their attention to the gorge below.

DRAGGLE

So, your typical trap and grab?

REEKA

Duh. Is there any other way?

Reeka pulls a huge book with a dark burgundy cover from a

pocket that should be too small to hold it. She flips

through the pages and her eyes quickly scan from side to

side. She stops turning and points at a page.

REEKA (cont’d)

Some quicksand should do the trick.

Reeka points down into the gorge with her free hand.

REEKA (cont’d)

(reads from book)

Zoopa, shoopa, noopa!

A bolt of white lightning shoots from Reeka’s index finger.

The bolt hits the ground in front of the horsemen. The

ground becomes duller and the horses almost immediately sink

to their shoulders. The men holler and the horses thrash

and whinny in confusion.

Reeka slams the book shut with a loud clap. She turns to

Draggle with a smirk.

REEKA (cont’d)

Let’s see what they got.

Wind Whistler lands on the rim of the gorge and Fizzy and

Gusty appear in flashes of pink and purple

respectively. They look down into the gorge.

WIND WHISTLER’S POV:

The horses thrash helplessly in quicksand up to their

shoulders and their frantic whinnies echo off the gorge

walls. The men flick their reins and shout. PAN up. Reeka

and Draggle climb down the gorge wall.

FIZZY

Oh no! We’re too late!

27.

GUSTY

Not if we work fast.

Gusty turns to Fizzy.

GUSTY (cont’d)

What’s your personal magic, kid?

Fizzy turns to Gusty with a start.

FIZZY

Uh...I can make bubbles out of

water and air. I don’t see what

good it would do here.

Gusty points to a nearby puddle.

GUSTY

Just start bubbling. I’ll take care

of the rest.

Fizzy gulps.

FIZZY

(nervously)

Okay.

Fizzy points her horn at the puddle. A pink aura surrounds

her horn.

Bubbles of various sizes form on the surface of the puddle

and float off.

Gusty points her horn at the bubbles. A purple aura

surrounds her horn and wind blasts from it.

The wind picks up the bubbles and carries them in a stream

down into the gorge towards Reeka and Draggle. The stream

blows them off the wall. They scream as the stream carries

them out of the gorge.

Fizzy, Gusty, and Wind Whistler watch as Reeka and Draggle

arc in the stream overhead and into a nearby ravine.

Reek and Draggle grunt as they land in a heap with a thud.

Fizzy, Gusty, and Wind Whistler gallop to a ledge

overlooking the ravine. Fizzy turns to Gusty.

FIZZY (cont’d)

That was incredible. I only use my

bubbles for cleaning and having

fun.

28.

Gusty turns to Fizzy.

GUSTY

Out here, you have to think of

everything as a weapon.

WIND WHISTLER

(turns back)

I will assist the horsemen in

exacting themselves from the

quicksand.

Wind Whistler spreads her wings and takes off.

Reeka throws Draggle off her. Draggle grunts o.s.

REEKA

(growls)

No you won’t.

Reeka points to a small, yellowed plant.

REEKA (cont’d)

Longus, tius, stetsonus.

The plant elongates and ties itself in a loop. Reeka grabs

it and swings it over her head. She throws the loop out of

frame towards Wind Whistler.

The loop flies ahead of Wind Whistler and falls over her,

snagging her by the midsection. It tightens around her body

behind her wings and stops her. She flaps her wings

frantically, but the rope holds her in place.

Reeka yanks on the rope and chuckles.

REEKA (cont’d)

(gloatingly)

What are you gonna do now?

Wind Whistler flaps her wings more evenly to hover in place

and looks back.

WIND WHISTLER’S POV:

Reeka stands on a ledge over the very bottom of the ravine

and a large thorn bush.

Wind Whistler’s mouth forms into a sly smirk. She darts

down out of frame.

Wind Whistler flies past Reeka, grabbing the lasso in her

mouth as she passes by. She rips the lasso out of Reeka’s

hands and pulls her off the ledge.

29.

Reeka screams as she falls and she disappears in the thorn

bush. After a second’s pause, several pricking sfx come

from the bush. After another second’s pause, Reeka, covered

in thorns, leaps out of the bush screaming, kicking her

legs, and holding her bottom.

Draggle braces herself on her knees and looks down. Gusty

gallops up next to Draggle and looks down too. Both snicker

and quickly go into a fit of roaring laughter. They fall

off balance with their eyes screwed shut and pound the

ground.

Reeka stands up and glares up at them.

REEKA (cont’d)

(shouts, pointing up)

Whose side are you on?!

Draggle and Gusty stop laughing and look at each

other. Draggle pounces on Gusty, but Gusty disappears and

reappears behind her. Gusty lowers her head and blows

Draggle off the ledge. Draggle screams as she falls out of

frame.

Draggle looks down with a start as she falls. She

straightens her body vertically and holds hands in front of

her in time to disappear into the thorns. She crawls out a

hole in the thorns unscathed.

REEKA (cont’d)

(complains)

Why didn’t you get stuck?

Draggle stands up and dusts herself off.

DRAGGLE

I slipped through them.

Gusty stares down into the ravine. Wind Whistler lands next

to her and kicks off the lasso. Fizzy gallops into frame to

join them.

FIZZY

Are you all right?

WIND WHISTLER

Yes.

PRINCE (O.S.)

(screams)

WE’VE BEEN ROBBED!

His shrill scream echoes from the gorge.

30.

PONIES

(turning to gorge)

What?

REEKA & DRAGGLE

(turning to gorge)

What?

Wind Whistler lands on the rim of the gorge. Fizzy and

Gusty gallop up to join her.

The prince looks up and points up the gorge.

PRINCE

That bird stole our mysticite

crystal.

WIND WHISTLER

Mysticite?

GUSTY

(trying not to laugh)

Did that girly scream come from

you?

The prince grits his teeth and holds up his fists.

PRINCE

(huffs)

How dare you make fun of my voice

when I have just been assaulted and

robbed?

WIND WHISTLER

(to Gusty)

Get them out of the quicksand. I

will retrieve the purloined item.

Wind Whistler spreads her wings and leaps off the rim and

out of frame. A split second later she flies back into

frame and out of frame.

GUSTY

(calling after Wind Whistler)

Yeah, and get the stolen crystal

thingy back too.

OVER WIND WHISTLER’S SHOULDER:

Wind Whistler beats her wings quickly to gain on the bird, a

puffin carrying a tan, canvas bag in one foot and a small

satchel slung across his back.

Wind Whistler pants.

31.

WIND WHISTLER

Cease your flight and surrender the

mysticite crystal you stole.

The puffin looks back. His beak kind of forms into a smirk.

PUFFIN

Sorry, love, but I’m being paid too

much to just turn it over.

The puffin reaches into his satchel with his free foot.

PUFFIN

(calling back)

Think fast, freak!

The puffin swings around and hurls a clump of powder at Wind

Whistler.

The clump explodes in front of Wind Whistler, washing

everything out in white. The white FADES to Wind Whistler

hovering in place and shaking her head. She stops shaking

her head and opens her bleary eyes. Spots form and pop

around her head as she swings her head from side to

side. She lowers her brow.

WIND WHISTLER

(grumbles)

Pony feathers.

"TO BE CONTINUED..."

Text stating "To be continued."
