The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on 5/5 of the lunar calendar.

The boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival are traditional customs to attempts to rescue the patriotic poet Chu Yuan. Chu Yuan drowned on 5/5 of the lunar calendar in 277 B.C. The ancient Chinese threw bamboo leaves filled with cooked rice and meat into the water. Therefore the fish would eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating rice dumplings. It is really yummy and very popular nowadays.
