Mouvement d’Expression Artistique Libre—a group of artists formerly known as Les Amis du Pinceau—is a non-profit organization established in 1986 which operates in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges area. At the time of its creation, the group focused mainly on the mediums of oil painting and watercolour. Having since expanded its horizons, they now welcome a range of multidisciplinary artists, including sculptors and photographers.

Winner of the best children’s show, Gabzy is back with a dynamic performance featuring his juggling and balancing acts. An endearing child at heart, Gabzy relies on audience participation and courageous volunteers to offer dazzling non-stop performances. Whether he is juggling along to music or riding his unicycle, Gabzy keeps the audience entertained from start to finish.

Cyprienne the Mouse, ambassador for the Musée régional de Vaudreuil-Soulanges school clientele for several years already, has the power to travel through time and discover our history simply by touching the objects in the museum’s collection. As part of this storytime, young participants will get to take part in a crafting activity connected to the story’s theme. Chantal is the Director of Educational Services for the museum and Curator for Art Exhibitions. Johanne is a graphic artist and enjoys drawing the mice that hide throughout her house.

• Your duo must include a young person between the ages of 7 and 14 and an adult with artistic or artisanal talent.• At least one of the two members must reside in Saint-Lazare.• The adult can be a professional or an amateur as long as they are passing down their artistic knowledge to a young person in their

immediate circle. • Any type of two-dimensional art or craft is permitted as long as it CAN BE HUNG ON THE WALL (sewing, knitting, painting, pastel, col-

ouring pencil, photography, etching, etc.).• Your work of art can have one of two forms:

• It can be composed of two works of art stacked one over the other in the same medium. The adult’s work of art should be placed on top, and that of his apprentice, on the bottom.

• A collective work of art where both artists create a single piece together that is presented in a specific medium. • Both works of art must be no bigger than 8 x 10 inches each or 14 x 17 inches for a collective artwork. • The work of art must be ready to hang on the wall.

Yoga isn’t only focused on poses—the discipline actually tackles a variety of aspects related to human wellness. Positive thinking is at the very heart of the practice. Unfortunately, people too often associate positive thinking with a simplistic view of reality when it is actually an art form that enables each and every individual to better create and experience his/her own reality. What is the nature of your thoughts? Are you a slave or master to your thoughts? How do thoughts affect our lives? What tools should I use? What is meditation? How do I practice meditation? During this interactive conference on positive thinking, all of these questions will be addressed. Audience members will get the answers they are looking for, possible solutions and concrete tools for being happier and contributing to the happiness of those in their immediate environment.

Re-discover the world through nature sounds, music and Native chants. A child connected with the world of dreams meets the most amazing characters who come to him and whisper the secrets of music and the knowledge of the First Nations peoples. These teaching inspire his creativity and prompt him to share his uniqueness with others. Complete with the evocative sounds of the flute and traditional drums, this theatrical concert explores the ancestral art of dreaming, which is of central importance in the Huron-Wendat culture.

14 My choice for an healthy lifestyle! Spring-summer 2020

Lire et faire lireThe joy of reading shared by children and senior volunteers.Lire et faire lire is a true form of active citizenship! The association offers an intergenerational reading program through local branches across Quebec.The simplicity of the program is what makes it truly appealing. During the academic year, seniors volunteer to read to children in one of their local schools once a week. Each volunteer is assigned his/her own group of 2 to 5 preschool children, kindergarten children, 1st graders or 2nd graders (ages 4 to 8).

The program’s mission can be summed up in one key word: ENJOYMENT. The enjoyment of having someone read you a story, of reading yourself, of sharing and creating a bond. • Lire et faire lire has two main objectives:• Foster a love of books and reading in children• Build intergenerational connections

Becoming a Lire et faire lire volunteer is easy! You must:

• Love children and reading;• Be 50 years of age or older;• Be available during the day, one hour per

week for eight consecutive weeks (between September and May);

• Be able to make your way to the school in your area that is part of the Lire et faire lire program;

• Be able to read in French.

2020 TD Summer Reading ClubThe Library is pleased to invite children ages 13 and under to take part in the 12th edition of the Summer Reading Club presented by TD Bank in collaboration with Library and Archives Canada (LAC). The Club aims to foster a love of reading and help children maintain their skills throughout the summer season. Prerequisites: Be a member of the Library and have a membership card.

You will then be able to:• Take part in an intergenerational activity

focused on the joy of books and reading;• Share your love of books and reading; • Share and discuss with a small group of 2 to 5

children between the ages of 4 and 8, allowing them to benefit from your life experience;

• Meet other interesting volunteer readers.

You can register anytime. Note that groups have already been created for the 2020 school period. However, we will contact you if a spot becomes available.

Children who wish to participate in the program will receive a logbook in which they can record the books they have read. Circulation desk clerks will stamp their logbook every time they read five books.

A special closing party will be held on Monday, August 17 at 7 p.m. to reward young readers for their effort they have made throughout the summer.
