What is a musical genre?Is the classification of the different music styles according to their purpose. The main musical genres are: -Vocal genre -Instrumental genre -Vocal and instrumental genre -Religious genre -Profane genre -Functional genre -Cinematographic genre

1.- Vocal genreThis kind of music its performed only by the human voice, without musical accompaniment. There are two types of human voice, female and male. Female voice: Depending on the tessitura we can find soprano, mezzo-soprano and contralto. Male voice: Depending on the tesitura we can find countertenor, tenor, baritone and bass.

Vocal genre is known as a cappella, this word originates from italian

2.- Instrumental genreThis musical genre refers to a music composition without voice. There are a lot of instrumental styles. For example:Jazz: This music style was originated in USA during the early 20th centuries. Characterized by the rhythm and the new style in those ages.

Electro: One of the newest music styles now, this genre has two main parts: the beat and the drop. There are a lot of artists like Hardwell, dj Snake, David Guetta

3.- Instrumental and vocal genreThis genre is about creating music with a mix of instruments and human voice. Most of the music can be found in this genre.

Pop music: This style derive from rock and appears in 1950s. Examples of pop artista are Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift

Rock: One of the most revolutionary music styles created. Most of the artists in this style are groups, Nirvana, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers

4.- Religious genreA genre created or composed only for a religious use. Some examples are Christian music, Islamic music or Hindu music.

This music takes place in churchs, mosques and synagogues. Often interpretated by chorus.

There arent many composers nowadays but in early middle ages lots of people compose music with this purpose.

5.- Functional genreThis music is used in important events like ceremonies, tributes, commemorations. Most of this music genre is interpreted by bands or chorus.

The music of weddings or burials are good examples of this genre. This kind of music wants to transmit different feelings depending on the moment.

6.- Cinematographic genreThis type of musical genre is created for films as a soundtrack, maximising the sentiments and emotions of a specific films part.

For example when the protagonist is going to die the soundtrack try to transmit a sad emotion to the public, creating exciting and others feelings.

Pirates of the Carabbeans soundtack in actions parts can be a good example of cinematographic genre.
