Dear Directors and Students and Parents,

Congratulations on your successful audition into one of the MSBOA All-State Bands, Orchestras or Jazz Ensemble. On January29, 2022 in Grand Rapids at the DeVos Center and Amway Grand Hotel, you will take your seat among the finest musicians fromliterally every part of our state.

This event is being held in conjunction with the Michigan Music Conference – a conference for all music teachers (instrumental,vocal and general music) in the state of Michigan, at the DeVos Center in Grand Rapids.

Please note the schedule of rehearsals and performances within this packet. Also, complete your online Registration using theOpusEvent website no later than Wednesday, December 1.

Some rooms have been reserved by the MMC, please refer to the hotel information page within this packet. Tell them that youare a part of the Michigan Music Conference (MMC) All-State Band/Orchestra for a special rate. Other hotels/motels are listed on theMMC website www.MichiganMusicConference.org.

Again, congratulations. You, your family and your community can all be proud of what you accomplished this year.

MSBOA All-State Ensembles Information Packet

Complete your online registration using the OpusEvent website no later than December 1.Your Registration and Health Forms are to be completed online and you must pay your $60 Participation Fee by credit card.

If needed alternates will be contacted after the deadline, Monday, December 1.

Hotel Information: It is up to the individual students and their parents to make hotel arrangements and that students are properlychaperoned while not in a rehearsal or other All-State activity. Some rooms have been reserved by the MMC, please refer to the hotelinformation page within this packet.

Meal Information: Lunch will be provided on Friday (not on Thursday). All other meals are the responsibility of the parent/student.

Dress: Dress for rehearsals is casual, however, please do not wear clothing with inappropriate slogans or in any way beyond the dresscode of your school. Hats will not be allowed during any rehearsal or performance. Dress for the final concert on Saturday is YOURSCHOOL’S CONCERT UNIFORM.

Personal Behavior: Students are to conduct themselves by the highest of standards with regard to decorum and behavior. You havebeen selected as the finest student musicians from the top music programs in our state. You will be representing your family, yourschool, and the thousands of student musicians in Michigan. This will be true of rehearsals, concerts, the exhibit hall, around the hotelarea, and any other public setting from the time you register until the final concerts have ended. Minor infractions will be immediatelyreported to your school’s administration. More serious infractions will also result in the student being asked to leave the event.

Badge: Students will be given a name badge identifying you as a member of the MSBOA All-State Ensembles. You will need to wearthis badge at all rehearsals and in the exhibit hall.

Parent Tickets: Each student will be given two complementary tickets to the All-State Concerts for use by their parents or anyonethey choose. Additional tickets may be purchased for $10 per adult. Children, ages 11-17 are $5. Children 10 and under are free. Parentsare allowed to register for the full conference for only $20 each. This registration will allow them to attend ALL MMC events andexhibits.

The MSBOA All State Bands & Orchestras rehearse and perform during the 17th Annual Michigan MusicConference (MMC) held in Grand Rapids, January 27-29, 2022. While the MSBOA is an integral part of theconference, the MMC has its own organizational processes and policies with regard to all performances duringthe Conference.

Please keep in mind the following: Prior to the All-State rehearsal in Grand Rapids, your primary contact for questions and information will

be your director at the school you attend. During the All-State rehearsals in Grand Rapids, your primarycontact for questions and information will be the Ensemble Manager. Please consult with theseindividuals before contacting the MMC regarding All-State Band & Orchestra matters.

Check our website frequently for current information about the Conference(www.MichiganMusicConference.org). The website is updated regularly.

Health/Safety: Masks are required at all session rooms, performances, and exhibit hall. Bell covers arestrongly encouraged for performance groups. All student performers must have a waiver signed andcompleted online by Wednesday, January 5, 2022, to receive their name badge and tickets. The linkfor this waiver can be found on page 1 of this PDF.

It is the policy of the MMC to provide each student performer two (2) complimentary tickets for thestudent’s specific performance. You will receive your two (2) complimentary tickets at the 10:00 a.m.check-in before the first rehearsal in Grand Rapids. You are free to give these tickets to anyone you like– parents, other family members, or the family of your friends in the All-State Bands & Orchestras whoneed more tickets than you do.

All tickets are $10 per person; children under 10 years or less are $5 each. Additional tickets may bepurchased for the All-State Bands & Orchestras Concert directly through the MMC:

o Online at www.michiganmusicconference.orgo Purchased on-site during the conference at the DeVos Box Office.o Tickets will also be available for sale 1 hour prior to the performance at the performance venue.

Your parents are invited to register for the conference at a special rate. This will give them access to allour workshops and the Exhibit Hall throughout the Conference, student performances, and eveningconcerts. Please select “Parent/Family of Student Performer” when registering online.

Photos & Recordings: There will be a table in Secchia Hall, just outside the exhibit trade show entrancewhere you can order photographs or recordings directly from the vendors listed below, and a link will beprovided on the MMC website, shortly after the conference ends.

o Streelman Photography will be taking pictures throughout the Conference, including each All-State Bands & Orchestras performance group.

o Soundwaves Recording will be recording each performance, with CD’s/ DVD’s available to order. 2022 Congratulatory Ad forms are available online! if you would like to include a congratulatory note to

your child in the official Show Program Book. Deadline is Monday, December 6th, 2021. Please submitas soon as your student is confirmed.

• Location: DeVos Place, 303 Monroe Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503

• Report Date/Time: Thursday, January 27, 2022 – registration is between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. –in the hallway area in front of DeVos Place Recital Hall (“Green Room”). The first rehearsal willbegin promptly at 12:00 noon, DeVos Place Recital Hall (“Green Room”.)

• Concert Dress: The dress for the final concert will be your own school’s concert uniform.• Concert Date, Time and Location: Saturday, January 29, 8:45 a.m., DeVos Performance Hall.

• Meals: A lunch will be provided on Friday. All other meals will be on your own.

• Hotel Accommodations: If you are not staying in the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, you will want tomake sure you allow enough extra time to get from your hotel room to each rehearsal/event.

• Instrument, Music Stand, and Music: Do not forget your instrument! Also, bring plenty of extrareeds valve oil, etc. Plan on having a pencil at every rehearsal! You will also need your own wiremusic stand for rehearsals.

All-State Concert Ticket Information

On Thursday, January 27, 2022 your son/daughter will receive their registration envelope at theirrehearsal room between 10:00 am and 12:00 Noon.

Within the registration envelope they will find two (2) complimentary tickets for theirperformance. You are free to give these tickets to anyone you like, e.g. parents, other familymembers or the family of your friends in the All-State Bands and Orchestras who may needadditional tickets.

Purchasing Additional Concert Tickets

If you wish to purchase additional concert tickets you will be able to do so by accessing thewebsite for the Michigan Music Conference (www.michiganmusicconference.org). Purchasetickets online at Ticketmaster or at the DeVos Place Box Office.

General Admission tickets are available for $10/person; tickets for children ages 11-17 areavailable for $5; children 10 and under are free.

Tickets will be available for sale one hour prior to the performance in DeVos Place at the BoxOffice.

MMC Parent Passes

Parents are allowed to register for the full MMC conference for only $20.00 each. Thisregistration will allow you to attend ALL MMC events and exhibits.

Parent Passes can be purchased in the WELCH LOBBY at the MMC Registration Desk.
