Function of Pectoralis

Your pectorals are a muscle in your chest. This muscle is used when you throw a ball, flapping your arms, or when arm wrestling. Your pectoralis also helps to keep your arms attached to the trunk of your body.

Action: Will everyone take one hand and put it on your chest where your pectorals are. Now take the other arm and flap it up and down. Do you feel your pectorals working?

Your bicep muscle works to help flex your elbow, or in other words helps to bend your arm.

Your bicep also helps you to be able to put your palms of your hand up.

Action: Take your left hand and put it on your right bicep. Then bend your arm upward into a bicep curl. Do you feel your bicep muscle working?

The tricep does a lot, one of it’s functions it keeping your elbow in place while you write.

Action: We will take both arms and link them together over our head. Then you will take your linked arms behind your back so that you are working your tricep muscle.

Abdominals

Your abdominals help flex your spine. They work to help you turn and twist your body from side to side.

Activity: Spread your feet so they are shoulder width apart. Then twist your body from side to side. Your abdominal muscles are working to twist your body.

Quadriceps or “Thigh” Muscle

-Quads are used to help extend (lengthen) the leg.-This muscle is used to straighten your leg and keep it straight while you stand. Activity: Do a forward lung.

The hamstring is used to flex our knee inward,or Bring our leg upwards.

During walking, running, or jumping the calf muscle pulls the heel up to allow forward movement.
